Blog Book Chat (24) Final Stop!

We have raced to the end of Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews.  One book that the second half was a page-flipper.

So lets get to the questions!

****WARNING:  There WILL BE SPOILERS in comments, and potentially the questions.

And off we go.  Any questions or thoughts other than these, please feel free to comment with. :) We'll chat about them too.

Robyn's Questions:
1.)  So we don't get the dinner.  Will we see it in the next book?
2.)  We got one step closer to Roland through Hugh.  Do you think we'll see Hugh again before we see Roland?
3.)  We got to see Kate's blood more at work as it destroyed the sword, for example.  What else is going on with that blood?

Melissa's Questions:
1.)  Nick a crusader is working with Hugh.  What is up there?  Is he undercover or really on Roland's side?
2.)  Kate has opened herself to Roland's eye.  What do you think will happen now?
3.)  Julie, Kate's adopted 'niece', has a crush on Derek, Kate's sidekick werewolf!  Aww, and Ut oh! LOL! Is this going to become an uncomfortable thing?
4.)  Maybe I missed it with the quick reading at the end, but what happened with all the blood Kate left behind in the flying palace?  She doesn't leave her blood anywhere, with the magic in it.

  1. You guys are almost there. This was simply a badass novel from start to finish, and Julie is great.

As for the blood, I don't recall.

  2. Hey Bastard! Thanks! And thanks for giving me a swift kick when I needed it. ;) I'm looking forward to seeing Julie grow with the series. And you don't remember about the blood!?! Or are you just saying that so you don't give anything away? lol Thank you!

  3. I can't wait to continue the series. :)

  4. I have a feeling we'll have to watch out for Nick and Hugh too I guess, haha.

Roland is definitely going to know about her now if he didn't before.

  5. I think Julie having a crush on Derek is so cute. She's young, I'm sure she'll change her mind.

I can see Derek being nice because he cares about Kate and Kate cares about Julie. I'm sure he'll break her heart easily.

  6. That's a good question about the blood. I don't know where it went. Maybe someone who works for Curran cleaned it up?

I'm guessing she didn't clean up since she was losing a lot of blood and probably didn't think about it.

  7. Just don't recall what happened to it, and how it played out.

  8. Robyn, I hear ya! After finishing this one I'm ready to pick up the next. Which I must say I've already ordered along with Hexed. I ordered them the day I finished. lol.

  9. Oh That Hugh is going to be trouble for Kate in the future. But I'm so glad this has come up. I was hoping that wasn't going to be one of those threads that lingers out there for 5 books before we get to it. I want to get to the punch with Roland and all!

I'm curious about Nick as Kate mentions he is a Crusader, which is part of the Order. So what is up with him? I hope he's just under cover as Kate thought, and not a spy for Roland.

  10. Oh, I kind of figured Julie would have a crush on Derek after Magic Burns. She had her heart broken, and she is a young girl.

I think it'll be a little uncomfortable for them all, for a while. :) But maybe with Julie being at school it won't be so bad.

  11. Yeah, she couldn't clean up. I had thought maybe Jim burned it or something, as he knows the drill. But they escaped out of there so fast because there were more people to fight them. I just hope none of those left try to drink her blood, as she made a point of telling how that would make them powerful, from it's magic. I'm probably over thinking, and missed something there.

  12. lol. Dinner! LOL! I love the note at the end. So he did take something, the pie! :D It was mentioned early in the book he had to be moving something or doing something. He was! :D And Kate was to exhausted to realize it.

I don't know if we'll get the 'dinner' per say, but I'm thinking it'll have to be mentioned in the future.

  13. Oh I love how we get the pieces of the magic and world as we come to that point. The blood power has been hinted at, but never really described until now. That was very interesting to learn.

I wonder what else we have in store from Kate and Roland.

We have the mind control of vampires, the blood powers, strong powerful magic. And Roland has all these weapons! We just learn about here in the end. Interesting!

  14. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Nick is just under cover as well. The thing though also is, if Nick is working for the order, could he say something to the order that could get Kate into trouble? She is special after all. :)

    1. Well, her boss did give her the go ahead to do what ever she wanted, early on. He didn't really say go, but he did give her the time off. She is but she isn't under the Orders laws in her position. They can wipe their hands clean of her if she happens to screw up. But if she takes down the games, all the good for them.

This Nick has me wondering though. I hope he's undercover for the Order and not undercover for Roland in the Order.

    2. Hopefully we'll find out in the next book, haha.

    3. That would be nice to find out about, especially since I have a feeling that we are going to see Roland's man more. :) I'm not sure about Roland, maybe at the end of the book. But definitely his men.

  15. I'm sure by next book, Julie will have a new crush, haha.

    1. lol. I don't know... Derek holds my heart. ;D She is young, and so is he. Even though he's rougher looking, he is a constant in their lives. That in itself makes a big difference to a young impressionable girl like Julie.

    2. I just wonder if Derek will only form the brotherly love for her.

    3. I don't know. I wondered if eventually, years later, they might get together. ;D

  16. If someone did get a taste of her blood. Maybe that will play out in the next book? Otherwise, maybe it's one of those oops scenes, authors sometimes forget about.

    1. Maybe we'll get to see about that in the next book. And I'm really curious! I think if it doesn't play out in the next book I might have to ask Ilona or Gordon. lol.

I really could have missed it with rushing to finish the book at that point. But I don't know! LOL!

    2. No you didn't. I looked back and didn't see any mention of it.

    3. Hmm, thanks for checking! And glad to hear someone else caught it too.

I wonder if it's in Hexed? Or maybe the short story that is up about Jim talking to Curran. (Which I need to read.)

I can't wait to read more of this series!
