Sunday Post #7

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~
I am late today... It's been a day already.  Visiting, kiddo's stuff, grocery store, then the dogs decided they wanted a road trip so had to take them for a car ride.  Yep, a day full already.  And I have so much more yet to do.
First, Camp NaNoWriMo...um, not so many words this week.  I did hit the 10k early (or Sunday night last week) and have ideas to keep going, but life has put a hold on it.  I did decide to add in a character I had thought about, but then didn't know if I really wanted him.  Yep, should have gone with first instincts. *sigh* So, I've been working on that.  And I do want to complete this story while the mind is still wrapped in this world.
As for read...I just finished one book.  Nano is taking my time when I'm not off with the kiddo.
So, needless to say I'm a bit behind in everything these days.
What's Happening in Books:
Current Read:
I'm...a bad reader.  I have a few podcast listens I want to get through and Nano is kicking my butt.  I do have an idea what book I'm picking up next, but we'll see.  Look for it on the right side bar here in a day or two.
Current Podcast Book Listen:
The Dreamer's Thread by Starla Huchton
Finished Last Week:
The Kaiser Affair by Joseph Robert Lewis
Received Last Week:
For Review:
A Cursed Embrace by Cecy Robson
Goodreads Synopsis:
Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other twenty-something girls—with one tiny exception: They are the products of a curse that backfired and gave each of them unique powers that made them, well, a little weird…
After Celia Wird and her sisters help master vampire Misha save his family, their powers are exposed to the supernatural community of the Lake Tahoe region. But fame comes at a price, and being “weird” isn’t always welcome.
To make matters worse, Celia desires the love of Alpha werewolf Aric, but his pack is bent on destroying their relationship to preserve his pureblood status. And once weres start turning up dead—with evidence pointing to the vampires—she must face the prospect of losing Aric forever. But the chaos only masks a new threat. An evil known as the Tribe has risen—and their sights are set on Celia and her sisters.
No Return by Zachary Jernigan
Goodreads Synopsis:
On Jeroun, there is no question as to whether God exists—only what his intentions are.
Under the looming judgment of Adrash and his ultimate weapon—a string of spinning spheres beside the moon known as The Needle—warring factions of white and black suits prove their opposition to the orbiting god with the great fighting tournament of Danoor, on the far side of Jeroun’s only inhabitable continent.
From the Thirteenth Order of Black Suits comes Vedas, a young master of martial arts, laden with guilt over the death of one of his students. Traveling with him are Churls, a warrior woman and mercenary haunted by the ghost of her daughter, and Berun, a constructed man made of modular spheres possessed by the foul spirit of his creator. Together they must brave their own demons, as well as thieves, mages, beasts, dearth, and hardship on the perilous road to Danoor, and the bloody sectarian battle that is sure to follow.
On the other side of the world, unbeknownst to the travelers, Ebn and Pol of the Royal Outbound Mages (astronauts using Alchemical magic to achieve space flight) have formed a plan to appease Adrash and bring peace to the planet. But Ebn and Pol each have their own clandestine agendas—which may call down the wrath of the very god they hope to woo.
Who may know the mind of God? And who in their right mind would seek to defy him? Gritty, erotic, and fast-paced, author Zachary Jernigan takes you on a sensuous ride through a world at the knife-edge of salvation and destruction, in one of the year’s most exciting fantasy epics.
The Machine God by MeiLin Miranda
Goodreads Synopsis:
One thing makes life in Eisenstadt bearable for exiled Professor Oladel Adewole: the island floating a mile above the city. He's an expert in world mythology about the island, but no one's ever been there or knows how it got there.
When a brilliant engineer makes it to the island in her new invention, the government sends Adewole up with its first survey team. The expedition finds civilization, and Adewole finds a powerful, forbidden fusion of magic and metal: the Machine God.
The government wants it. So does a sociopath bent on ruling Eisenstadt. But when Adewole discovers who the mechanical creature is--and what it can do--he risks his heart and his life to protect the Machine God from the world, and the world from the Machine God.
Black Mercury by Charlotte E. English
Goodreads Synopsis:
Caspar Goldstein is the star of the steam car racing scene in the city of Eisenstadt. All he cares about is winning the coveted Autocarriage Cup, and he’s in with a chance—until a crash at the track throws his plans into disarray. When a chance discovery brings a new superfuel into his life, he can’t resist the opportunity to claim some for himself.
But when black mercury powers the first ever flight to the mysterious Drifting Isle, its fame quickly spreads—and everyone wants what Caspar’s got. He’s made a grave mistake, but it’s too late to back out now. Unsure who to trust, Cas must rely on his few true friends for help; but how can inventors, autocarriage drivers and pigeons hope to face down the deadliest of assassins and thieves?
Black Mercury is a title in the Drifting Isle Chronicles series, an original steampunk/high fantasy world created by an international team of authors.
The first three titles in the series (which can be read in any order) are:
Black Mercury by Charlotte E. English
The Kaiser Affair by Joseph Robert Lewis
The Machine God by MeiLin Miranda
Freebies:
Angel's Ink by Jacelynn Drake
Goodreads Synopsis:
Buyer beware . . .
Looking for a tattoo—and maybe a little something extra: a burst of good luck, a dollop of true love, or even a hex on an ex? Head to the quiet and mysterious Gage, the best skin artist in town. Using unique potions—a blend of extraordinary ingredients and special inks—to etch the right symbol, he can fulfill any heart's desire. But in a place like Low Town, where elves, faeries, trolls, werewolves, and vampires happily walk among humanity, everything has its price.
No one knows that better than Gage. Turning his back on his own kind, he left the magical Ivory Tower where cruel witches and warlocks rule, a decision that cost him the right to practice magic. And if he disobeys, his punishment—execution—will be swift.
Though he's tried to fly under the radar, Gage can't hide from powerful warlocks who want him dead—or the secrets of his own past. But with the help of his friends, Trixie, a gorgeous elf who hides her true identity, and a hulking troll named Bronx, Gage might just make it through this enchanted world alive.
      And thank you. I will take November off from blogging and read for sure. 50k words is a lot in a month for me. lol. But now I'm pushing to get done with this story idea. *sigh* I'll get through. I will. :) Thank you for understanding!
  5. Way to go on NaNo! I was going to join but April is not good month for me to try and bury myself in writing. You're the second person I've seen with Cursed Embrace and I'm rather curious about it now.
    I hope you get a bit of down time to relax and spend it writing or reading. Have a great week and thank you for stopping by!
  8. I thought NANO was in November? I've been working on a WIP, but it's hard to find motivation to just sit and write every single day so I give you lots of credit. And isn't crazy how some days just fly? Hope you enjoy all your books. Thanks for stopping by today.
    1. Harley Bear Books, Yes, Nano is November. They also do a Camp Nano in April! I didn't know that until this year. lol. I got talked into it. :D But the nice thing is you can pick your word count, doesn't have to be the 50k.
      Thank you a lot. It is strapping sometimes to come up with things to keep the story going, each day.
      Hope you have a great week, and thank you for stopping in turn!
  9. I love how your dogs wanted to go for a car ride. My mom always laughs at me when I get on the phone with her and tell her I'd just gotten done taking my dog for a ride. She loves just riding around. She'll drive me insane going to my front door, then smelling her leash, then looking at me, then repeating it over and over again until I finally get up. I'll take her outside thinking she needs to go to the bathroom but she walks straight to my car instead. What Fergie wants, she usually gets. Spoiled thing haha! I can't wait to read your review on THE KAISER AFFAIR! Your W?W?W? post had me so intrigued. I've already added it to my TBR list :) A CURSE EMBRACE sounds really good! The summary made it sound like a series so I looked it up on goodreads. Looks like it is haha. Have you read the first book in the series? Is it any good?
    1. Oh Christine P, the girls are family too. And they are so expressive. People think animal people are crazy, but its true! Sheba took the effort to jump into the Jeep when I was getting the groceries out, so we had to go. lol. That's the way our girls are too. And so spoiled. lol.
      And wonderful! The Kaiser Affair review is up today, Tuesday. :) Hope you enjoy it! Thank you.
      I'm very much looking forward to Curse Embrace. And yes I did read the first book, Sealed with a Curse. Very good. I loved the story around the four cursed sisters. ;) They are very interesting, and the romance is blooming nicely. lol.
      Thank you!!
  10. I tried to do NaNoWriMo last November, but the pressure is just too much with everything else I have going on. I like to write at my own speed. :)
  14. Good for you for getting any writing done at all -- let alone blogging on top of that! I look forward to hearing how the multi-author series is; I picked up one of them from the author's website a few weeks ago, but haven't had time to read it. And I've got Clockwork Mafia on my docket to read this week or over the weekend.
    Thank you for stopping by my Sunday Post earlier!
    1. Thank you Lark @ The Bookwyrm Hoard. I'm really working hard. It's a lot, and I don't usually do both writing and blogging. November when I do the 50k I'll stop the blog for the month.
      Glad you like the sounds of the multi-author series! I've got the review for the first book up, and links to a multi-blog review of the others. :)
      Oh, I do hope you love Clockwork Mafia as much as I have. And do hope you go to Badlands and read Ever's story. :) Thank you!!
      And thank you for stopping in turn. :)
