About the Authors:
Philippa (Pip) Ballantine
Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Philippa has always had her head in a book. For this she blames her father who thought Lord of the Rings was suitable bedtime reading for an eight year old. At the age of thirteen she began writing fantasy stories for herself.

She first earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Political Science and then a Bachelor of Applied Science in Library and Information Science. So soon enough she found herself working in the magical world of libraries where she stayed for over a decade.

Her first professional sale was in 1997, and since then she has gone on to produce mostly novel length fiction. In 2006 she became New Zealand’s first podcast novelist, and she has voiced and produced Weaver’s Web, Chasing the Bard, Weather Child and Digital Magic as podiobooks. Her podcasts have been short listed for the Parsec Awards, and won a Sir Julius Vogel award.

Philippa is the author of the Books of the Order series with Ace- Geist and Spectyr and Wrayth out now, and Harbinger to follow. She is also the co-author of the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences series with Tee Morris. Phoenix Rising debuted in May 2011 and The Janus Affair came out in May 2012. She also has the Shifted World series with Pyr Books, with the first book Hunter and Fox out now.

When not writing or podcasting, Philippa loves reading, gardening, and whenever possible traveling. With her husband, Tee and her daughter, she is looked after by a mighty clowder of three cats.

Tee Morris
Tee Morris began his writing career with his 2002 historical epic fantasy, MOREVI The Chronicles of Rafe & Askana. In 2005 Tee took MOREVI into the then-unknown podosphere, making his novel the first book podcast in its entirety.

That experience led to the founding of Podiobooks.com and collaborating with Evo Terra and Chuck Tomasi on Podcasting for Dummies and its follow-up, Expert Podcasting Practices for Dummies.

He won acclaim and accolades for his cross-genre fantasy-detective Billibub Baddings Mysteries, the podcast of The Case of the Singing Swordwinning him the 2008 Parsec Award for Best Audio Drama. Along with those titles, Tee has written articles and short stories for BenBella Books’s Farscape Forever: Sex, Drugs, and Killer Muppets, the podcast anthology VOICES: New Media Fiction, BenBella Books’ So Say We All: Collected Thoughts and Opinions of Battlestar Galactica, and Dragon Moon Press’ Podthology: The Pod Complex.

Tee bought all these skills to the award-winning Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences series which he wrote with his wife, Pip Ballantine. When he is not writing, Tee enjoys life in Virginia alongside Philippa Ballantine, his daughter, and three cats.

Though she is haunted by the terrible truth of her past, Sorcha must lead the charge against the gathering hordes of geists seeking to cross into the Empire.  But to do so, she will need to manipulate powers beyond her understanding - powers that may prove to be her undoing...

Soooo!?!  All I have to say is WOW!  Sorcha looks serious and ready for battle.  Merrick is on the lookout. (great to see his full face here)  And the Rossin... Just plain huge and frightful as always.  The sky looks stormy.  I think there's going to be much to come with this one.

Cover and Description Release: Fathom

I've found a new Young Adult book that will be coming out October 1, 2012.  And I think you all would enjoy it.  It sounds like it has a Celtic blend and the sea is included as well.

After you read the description of the book jump over to Merrie Destefano's blog to read the first chapter.  I will say after reading this first chapter I'm curious; about Kira the main character, her mother and sister, and what is to come from her heritage and sea!  Yea, one to check out.

Fathom
By:  Merrie Destefano
Due Out:  October 1, 2012
(Young Adult)

Description:

Everything is changing . . .

Turning sixteen can be hell, especially if everyone in town thinks your mother killed herself and your sister. All Kira Callahan wants to do is swim, hang out with her best friend, Sean, and ignore the kids who torment her at school. That is, until one day when she gets invited to a party. For three minutes her life is wonderful—she even kisses Sean in the driveway. Then somebody spikes her drink at the party and some girls from out of town lure her into the ocean and hold her underwater.

Kira soon discovers that the group of wild teenagers who have come to visit Crescent Moon Bay are not as innocent as they seem. In fact, nothing is as it seems—not the mysterious deaths of her sister and mother, not her heritage, not even her best friend. And everything seems to hinge on the ancient Celtic legends that her mother used to tell her as a child.

What do you think?  Okay, like I promised there is the first chapter up on Merrie's blog for your reading.  I will say it caught my eye, and makes me want the book even more.  I love the sounds of the sea and mysteries to this story!

Does Merrie's name sound familiar to you?  This is the first YA book she has published, but she has 3 adult books out:
Feast  (Harvest of Dreams #1)

Afterlife  (The Resurrection Chronicles #1)

Waiting for Midnight (anthology of short stories by Merrie)

Vampire Voyage
By:  Kelly Lougheed

Description:
When Charity signs up for the Hawthorn School spring break trip to the St. Judas School for Boys in Romania, she has an inkling the trip won't just be all fun and romantic flings.  Being constantly surrounded by exotic European boys would be great...if so many of the boys weren't homicidal vampires.

While trying not to succumb to the peer pressure of drinking human blood at one of the vampire parties, Charity and her BFF Louise get tangled up with a boy named Ivan, who may or may not plan on using them in a nefarious scheme to turn all the hawthorn girls into vampires.

Louise refuses to believe Ivan capable of murder -- he's far too handsome!  But Charity sees evil in the way Ivan slicks his hair back with such unnecessary amounts of hair gel.  Can Charity -- in between seducing a past fling, Nicholae, and hiding her late-night wanderings from the trip chaperone, Ms. Van Tessel -- save her classmates from becoming bloodsucking fiends?

Cover & Synopsis Reveal: The Dragon's Egg

So, you know I've read the first book of this series.  But I've not posted my glowing review yet.  Yes, I said glowing.  I really enjoyed the first book and sped through it with speed as I couldn't stop reading.  Yes, it's on the fantasy side of the realm as well.  So I was happy.  Very happy.

Also, the author will be stopping by here September for a day as her tour comes through here.  So, with an interview you will get to know her.

But what are we here for today?  The cover reveal of the fourth, and final, book in the Dragonslayer series.

So here it is:
The Dragon's Egg

By:  Resa Nelson

Description:

In the fourth and final book of the Dragonslayer series, Mandulane’s army is poised to attack the Northlands in the name of a powerful god, but in truth Mandulane is using the act of spreading this new faith as a way to disguise his own personal greed and hunger for power. Astrid has succeeded in warning her beloved country of imminent danger, and the Northlanders scramble to set up a clever defense, never realizing a spy in their midst is poised to take critical information directly to Mandulane.

After sacrificing herself in order to set her brother Drageen free for the sake of protecting the Northlands, Astrid finds herself controlled by the stone of light. Although it forces her path of destiny, Astrid learns she must make one final choice about who she wants to be.

Most important of all, her new sweetheart Trep encounters a dragon that entrusts him with the care of a dragon’s egg. Trep embraces a dangerous journey and accepts the duty of protecting the unhatched dragon, knowing that its safety could impact the fate of the entire world.

So what do you think?  After only reading the first book, I'm very curious to see how we get to here!  And love that egg!  There's a dragon in there!

Meanwhile, Merrick has been asked to investigate a new member of the Emperor’s Court. But when Sorcha is abducted by men seeking Raed Rossin, the shapeshifting rival to the throne, Merrick must choose where his loyalties lie.

What do you think?  I think I want to freshen up on Spectyr so I'm ready to dive in with Sorcha, Merrick, and Raed again.  Sounds like a lots going to happen and the Rossin is going to get involved again...I do enjoy seeing him.  And Merrick is going to have to make a choice.

Cover and Synopsis Reveal: Dark Whispers

Today I have the cover and synopsis of this contemporary fantasy novella series for the second story for you.  Now, I have the first story here to read, and can't wait to get to it.

Dark Whispers
Book 2 of: The Spirit Callers series
By:  Krista D. Ball
Due Out:  November 2012

Description:
A rash of teen suicides shakes the remote Newfoundland village that Rachel Mills calls home. As Rachel helps the school investigate, painful memories from her past – events she’d worked very hard to forget – continue to resurface.

As if she didn't have enough problems. Her beloved 93-year-old neighbor develops heart problems. The man Rachel's in love with, moves into her house--along with his girlfriend, the most perfect woman in creation. And a strung-out wreck of a woman claiming to be Rachel's biological mother shows up on her doorstep. But it isn’t until a local boy with a talent for spellwork, is attacked by a mysterious stranger that Rachel asks the question she’s avoided her whole life: how powerful can a Spirit Caller like herself become?

What do you think?  Sounds like a lot going on in Rachel's life there, and I'm curious to learn about being a Spirit Caller.  That cover is spooky, with the shades of purple and the ghost girl.  Looking good.

I do look forward to reading the first story, Spirits Rising.  Curious about this series?  The series is a set of novella length stories.  The first book, of 80pgs, is Spirits Rising:

Synopsis:
Rachel Mills has one wish in life: for the spirit world to shut up and leave her alone. She thought her move to a remote fishing village in Northern Newfoundland would help.

Population: Twenty. What could go wrong?

Instead of peace, however, she relocates to a land of superstitution, the air alive with the presence of others.

When a local teenager accidentally summons the spirits of the area, including those from a thousand-year-old Viking settlement, all supernatural breaks loose. As the spirits stalk her and each other, Rachel finds herself in over her head. With the help of Mrs. Saunders, her 93-year-old neighbour, Rachel has to put aside her own prejudices long enough to send the spirits back to rest, or risk being caught in the midst of a spirit war.

You can find these novellas in eformat.

If you are curious and want to learn more about when Dark Whispers is released, you can sign up for Krista's news letter at: http://kristadball.com/contact/new-release-sign-up/

Sealed with a Curse
By:  Cecy Robson
Due Out:  December 31, 2012

Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other 20-something girls—with one tiny exception: they're products of a backfired curse that has given each of them unique powers that make them, well, weird…

The Wird sisters are content to avoid the local vampires, werebeasts, and witches of the Lake Tahoe region—until one of them blows up a vampire in self-defense. Everyone knows vampires aren't aggressive, and killing one is punishable by death. But soon more bloodlust-fueled attacks occur, and the community wonders: are the vampires of Tahoe cursed with a plague?

Celia reluctantly agrees to help Misha, the handsome leader of an infected vampire family. But Aric, the head of the werewolf pack determined to destroy Misha's family to keep the region safe, warns Celia to stay out of the fight. Caught between two hot alphas, Celia must find a way to please everyone, save everyone, and oh yeah, not lose her heart to the wrong guy—or die a miserable death. New cover for you!  This is the starts to a new Epic Fantasy series.  I'm really liking the sounds of this one!  I think I'll have to see about getting my little fingers on it.

Tranquility's Blaze
By:  Krista D. Ball

“What will I do? What I do best. I’ll find him and I’ll kill him. And then I’ll kill Garran’s murderer.”

Even if the killer is my sister.

A half-breed and a female, Lady Bethany clawed her way to the ranks of the Elven Service’s top military elite. They only knew her as their champion against Magic, and not the daughter of a Goddess. She’d expected a long, rewarding life protecting those under her care. But that was before her twin sister returned from exile, addicted to brutal Magic and human sacrifice, twisted inside, and abusing ancient prophecies to overthrow their mother and destroy everything Bethany holds sacred.

The world will burn in flames and innocents will die, unless Bethany can stop it. Unless she can take the life of her own sister.

Cover Release: Gunmetal Magic

Okay, sooooo I'm a little late in sharing this one and you all probably saw it already.  But I'm still going to post about it. :)  Hope you don't mind.

I've just recently been tormented into starting an amazing series, one I'm rather enjoying.  Yes, the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews.  This team has done a wonderful job of blending so much together in these books; a great story and mystery, the character development, and world development too.

So this new book, it's a story from Kate's best friends view.  Yes, Andrea's.  See, I meet Andrea in Magic Burns, I mean we really got to see her there.  And I've seen her in Magic Strikes (which is currently all the further I am in the series).  I'm sure she shows up in the next books too.  Andrea is an interesting character of her own, and she has a thing for guns. lol.  Sweet!  I look forward to this story!  And it gives me a small glimpse of what's to happen yet. ;)

Synopsis:
Some people have everything figured out — Andrea Nash is not one of those people. After being kicked out of the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, Andrea's whole existence is in shambles. All she can do is try to put herself back together, something made easier by working for Cutting Edge, a small investigative firm owned by her best friend, Kate Daniels.

When several shapeshifters working for Raphael Medrano — the male alpha of Clan Bouda and Andrea's former lover — die unexpectedly at a dig site, Andrea is assigned to investigate ... and must work with Raphael. As her search for the killer leads her into the secret underbelly of supernatural Atlanta, Andrea knows that dealing with her feelings for Raphael might have to take a backseat to saving the world ...

What do you think?  I know many are looking forward to this book.  Andrea sounds like an awesome character to follow as well!

Lineage
Due Out:  Early 2012
Family reunions suck.

What's a woman to do when her dad's the antichrist, her grandma's the devil, the end of the world is at her doorstep, and she's out to avenge the murders of her husband and kids?

Kill everything in her way.

Quarter-demon Peri Takata exists with but one goal in mind: annihilate everyone responsible for the death of her family.  Then - her need for vengeance quelled - she plans to take her own life.

Her mission brings her to the vampire Zara Lain, the only known survivor of the event that destroyed Peri's family five years ago.  Hunting down a secret society of those who don't want to be found has its challenges, however, especially when forces are working to keep the antichrist's daughter very much alive.  The apocalypse is closing in and Peri may be playing a role in it whether she wants to or not.

But when a heart long-thought dead begins to beat again with love for another, she's not so sure about anything anymore.
