Friday Follow - December 31, 2010

Well, It's been a while since I've been able to participate in Friday Follow.  It's been crazy here at home as we've been building a new home and moving, then the holidays where upon us.  But, I am off work today and around the visiting of a few family members I'll be around for the weekend.  So I thought why not!

If you are wondering what I read more of and blog about:

I enjoy reading Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Paranormal, Science Fiction... just about anything in these areas, and I will read YA books in these areas as well (I just have been a little short on reading YA lately). I hope you take a look around and enjoy the reviews and meme's I do: Monday's Beginnings (which you can link up to on Mondays and join in with sharing), Teaser Tuesday, Favorite Fictional Character,  and Looking Forward Too... (new one up every Friday - and I'm thinking of adding Mr. Linky to, so if you like it let me know and I will so you can join the fun).

There are also LOADS of many great things going on here.

Have you heard about the New Years Resolutions...Bookish Style?  Well, you can link up on the post HERE if you would like to join in.  Or you can just go visit all the wonderful blogs that are linked up.

The Book Blog Hop has a great new twist to it... A question to answer to get to know each other a little better.

This week:

Who is your favorite new-to-you author so far this year?

This is a hard question for me as I have picked up a few new-to-me authors this year.  I would have to say recently it would be Stacia Kane in Urban Fantasy, Celine Kiernan and Glenda Larke for Fantasy.  Although I could definitely add a few others to the list...if you would like me to. :)

The Book Blog Hop has a great new twist to it... A question to answer to get to know each other a little better.

This week:

Tell us a little of what book you are currently reading.

I am currently reading the second book in the Griffin Mage trilogy, Land of the Burning Sands by Rachel Neumeier.  I have been following Gereint through his travels.  Gereint is a slave per say, bound by magic to do as his master bids him.  But Gereint has found a way to escape these chains.  Yet Gereint ends up right where he started again.  I am enjoying this journey, and I get to see Griffins along the way.

The Book Blog Hop has a great new twist to it... A question to answer to get to know each other a little better.

This week:

Tell us about some of your favorite authors and why they are your favorite:

Some of my favorite authors... I will make a short list:
Raymond Feist ~ I started really reading with Raymond's books.  And in doing so, found I loved the world he created and the connection I had with the characters.  Loving the characters and the world created really drew me into reading.

Brandon Sanderson ~ Anyone reading Fantasy and loving it has to know Brandon.  His worlds and magic systems are AMAZING.  The characters are easy to connect with as well.  Brilliant mind at work here.

Ken Scholes ~ Another Fantasy writer.  He is new to the scenes with his series The Palms of Isaak, but these really are some master pieces.  With the characters, world, and the twisting in the storyline to figure out who is the one pulling the strings.  The third book to his series will come out in September.

Michael J. Sullivan ~ Another Fantasy author who's series has surprised me.  I have found myself lost in his stories as well, with easily visual scenes and great characters to follow.  Then you can't forget about the twisting conspiracy going on in the undercurrents, surfacing as you go.

Fantasy reads I can go on with the authors for a while, but I will get to some Urban Fantasy Authors now...

Marjorie M. Liu ~ Now for Urban Fantasy, I have only read the series of Maxine Kiss, but I loved the writing style found here.  And I was easily drawn into the story to the characters and being able to visualize the events in my mind.  I plan on getting into her other books as well.

Caitlin Kittredge ~ I have been reading the Black London series and have rather enjoyed this books.  Caitlin takes a different approach with her characters as to their banter with each other, and the magic between the two main characters.

I could go on with many authors as there are a few on the horizon, just starting and have great starts: Nicole Peeler and Kelly Meding.  But I think this list will do for now. :)

Your Name And Why You Started Blogging...

Hello! My name is Melissa. :) Why did I start blogging... that is a tough question.  I started reading blogs of online friends I had from at Barnes n Nobles forum/discussion threads.  It looked like great fun to do.  So I started blogging and reviewing books.  It was a way for me to keep track of my thoughts on books and enjoy sharing my unique finds with many great people.  It's hard to believe how much it can grow and change for you.  I am still enjoying what I read and blogging about them.  I enjoy the discussions on the books and chatting with such kind people. :)
