Synopsis:
It hasn't been the best week for Jessica McClain.

Her mate has been kidnapped by a Goddess hell-bent on revenge --- but Jessica is playing for keeps.

Because she's the only female werewolf in town...it comes with its own set or rules...and powers.

Aided by two vamps, two loyal Pack members, and one very reluctant human, Jessica must rescue her man while coming to terms with what being a wolf really means.

All in a day's work for a girl.

The second novel in Jessica McClain series is a full on action adventure featuring one angry Goddess and plenty of monsters, demons, and a few newly risen beasties...

First Sentence:
The knife pressed against my neck pissed me off.

My Thoughts and Summary:
Jessica's been having it rough.  Supes are out to get her, attacking her at about ever turn.  And it's taking all she has to not run off to find and save Rourke, but she knows she has to be prepared and get information first.  There are rumors flying among the Supe world about her, or who she could be and what's to come - prophecies.  One Imp attacker tells her they will find her.  The demons do not want her to rule and they are hunting her.  Everyone in the supernatural world 'knows' of Jessica, except Jessica.  She's still trying to adjust to just the wolf part and so much more as it surfaces as Jessica gets her lead on the goddess who's holding Rourke and she fights her way through hell's demons to get to him.

Quick start right back into the world with Jessica.  Jessica starts right off throwing punches as she has always done all her life.  Fighting to survive.  Love the heart racing start early on, and holds to it through out.

Jessica's mind is made up and she won't let anyone stop her.  The drive is pushing her.  She will go through any and all sorts of hell to find and get Rourke, her mate, back.  Jessica is so different and learning of the supernatural world, along with herself, as she goes.  Even the world of demons, which the werewolves have never dealt with.  New beings and creatures are going to come at the top-of-the-food-chain wolves, and they are going to have to get ready for it.  With Jessica at their side.

Jessica is more powerful than she ever even imagined.  And others are taking all this in along with what they can learn from the prophecies.  Demons are surfacing, and in the end have Jessica on their short list.

Jessica makes new allies.  Ones she might be grateful to have, but also ones that might cause a stir in the werewolf world, and maybe even the supernatural world as a whole.   I really liked the new friends we come across here, and how they open up the supe world to us sharing knowledge.  Wonderful new bonds created.

We end the book with questions of a few, but the story of finding Rourke is completed here.  There are new happenings to come, and the ending sets those up to come.  Dang, can't wait for Cold Blooded!!

Constant heart-racing read, keeping the heart pounding with fevered worry and anticipation as Jessica fights for her love, friends, and her life.

*I read this book for an honest review from the author.

  4. Mel only question in my mind that kept me from grabbing this one off Netgalley is have not read either novella or book 1, is it necessary to enjoy the story to have done so first? I have had this series on my radar and just never gotten to it yet, as usual too many others took priority but the good thing is they took priority being books I already owned in series that I am trying to finish! :-)

    1. Jackie, you don't need to read the novella at all. It's an amazing addition to the series and Jessica's character, but you don't have to. I would say read the first book as I'm a big follow a series person. But, thinking about the book, this is it's own story. You won't know what happened to Jessica to come this way or how she meet Rourke and the connection driving her to save him. It's explained, but you wouldn't have seen them grow together. But, you probably could read it with out the others. Just beware there might be a few things that are shady in meaning. But you'll understand them. I do think you'd enjoy the books though. This one isn't as much romance as the first one lead to in the end. It's full of new world and learning Jessica's abilities and action. :)

If you get it Jackie, I really do hope you love it.

    1. Oh Kimba, I absolutely loved these books. You really have to get to Full Blooded, or even the novella Blooded if you happen to have it (though novella not needed to read the series). I do hope you love them as much as I. :)

  9. I just finished this myself (I'm about to review it), and I really love Jessica. The first book was a bit better for me, mostly because Rourke was around more, but overall, this series quickly found its place among my favorites.
    Great review.

    1. Maja (The Nocturnal Library) I think there are going to be many, like you, missing Rourke in this book. I really loved the growth of Jessica here and what we learn of her. This book really accomplished that. But the next one will be full of Rourke, I have a feeling. :) Thank you!
