Thoughts On: Fables of the Flying City Ep 32-33

Fables of the Flying City

By:  Jared Axelrod

Genre:  Steampunk

Episode:  32 of 33, Book One: Ashe of the Air

Format:  Podcast; 15:05 minutes

Synopsis:
Balancing on the Fulcrum of Causality

In which it all goes boom.

My Thoughts and Summary:
We meet the pilot of the scout plane on it's suicide mission.  Surprise surprise!  One who was forbidden from flying looking to make a name for herself as a hero.  The plan is discussed and agreed upon with the ship.  Unfortunately all are not going to make it out of this one.  But Ashe will inherit a new position in life.

In this story we learn Gatling knows something of the speed of the city and that there is a relation to Ashe and her scars, even her memory loss.  Again, I'm brought back to the big curiosity of what goes on in that engine...And Ashe's past!

Ashe and Cerannah could become new symbols for this war, and against the Vrussians in the future.  I have to laugh, even in a sadder moment, at Ashe as she finally gets to punch Cerannah...and even enjoy it.  Ashe now gets to tell Gatlings stories and take care of the press.  She also will get to learn who she is and what her story is.  Gatling tells Ashe it's on Amperstam.

In the end we hear stories told of the big event.  A monument created in Kitchener's name.  Gatling now remembered as a saint.  And Amperstam is now in a new view by the world.

Episode:  33 of 33, Book One: Ashe of the Air

Format:  Podcast; 13:11 minutes

Synopsis:
Ashe of the Air

In which our heroine is not believed, a liar is called, the wrong parts are thrived upon, descriptions are given, one Ashe lives on without the other, a silly goose is named, a title is denied, Slanger can't hear, memory is pulled upon, advice on betting is given, Ashe says goodbye, and then moves on to the next adventure.

My Thoughts and Summary:
Ashe quits the Aerial Guard!  She made Captain for saving a life, but leaves as well.

Ashe has realized she thrives on the wrong parts of being part of the Aerial Guard, the danger and chaos.  Mari doesn't think she can fly without Ashe, but Ashe thinks (and tells her so) that she can.  She's one of the best.

Ashe has taken up a new position, to be a printer now.  She remembers what Gatling said about Ashes past and sounds like she is going to find out what it is.

As Ashe is leaving we see the new recruits, and remember when Ashe started.  Ashe is asked by Slanger to give words of wisdom.  Ashe delivers a heartfelt speech which may not make sense to the new recruits, but being through all Ashe has been through and us with her, it makes perfect sense.

But Ashe always has an adventure ahead of her.  Looking forward to listening to book 2.

We are now on to Book 2: Mouths Of The Dead
