Monday's Beginnings (75)

How are you faring at the beginning of this week?  Are you starting a new book or finishing one up?

It's Monday!  I started Lodestone Book One: The Sea of Storms by Mark Whiteway this week.  I was hoping to finish it up over the weekend.  Well, life happens.  We had several friends over Saturday so I had spent all day trying to get ready for them to come... resulting in no reading on Saturday.  And Sunday was just the normal Sunday where I visit with my father and try to get through other things.  I'm almost done with the book so I'm hoping to get done with it today or tomorrow.  I'm enjoying this YA fantasy read.

I'm going to get started on The Mage in Black by Jaye Wells this week.  This is the second book in Sabina Kane series.  And we are having chats on Thursdays for this book in preparation for the third books release!  Are you curious what our schedule is?  CLICK HERE to go see and hope you join in with us on the chats.

I did get a few reviews up this past week as well.  They are (click the title to jump to it):
Happy Hour of the Damned  by Mark Henry
   Siren's Call  by Devyn Quinn

~~And there is a special treat from Devyn Quinn coming up this week... tomorrow. :)  I hope you stop back by.

As for my WANT list... I've added 10 books.  And I've added 4 books to the Very Curious About list.  Okay, so I've been slacking lately.  But I will try to do better. ;) Oh, you all are really hard on me with these books.

Purchased:
I saw this book and it just stuck in my head for a few months.  So since I couldn't forget about it, I did what any other book addict would do... I bought it!

Goodreads Synopsis:

In the crumbling city of Eloria, there is one indisputable fact: everyone has a price. Protestations of morality and better judgment have little meaning when confronted with the chance to obtain the unobtainable. The only question remaining is just how much a person is willing to sacrifice in order to win their heart’s desire.

Sevy has always been a quick study in the wicked ways of Eloria. She has no qualms about taking what she wants, and when the love of her life is mysteriously murdered, Sevy will stop at nothing to get him back. Elvish black magic, necromancy and demonic pacts are of little consequence if it means she can once again have her beloved at her side. But is she willing to murder her only friend to get the job done?

I've read the first two books of this series and so enjoyed them so I it was a given I would pick up this one too.

Goodreads Synopsis:

The hunter has become the hunted . . .

Without even realizing what she was doing, Genevieve Scelan has made a bad bargain. The Red Sox fanatic and supernatural tracker known as "Hound" for her extraordinary power of scent wishes she could leave magic behind now that she’s eradicated the evil cabal that oppressed Boston’s undercurrent for centuries. But now her talent’s fading, the local adepts’ squabbles are turning ugly, and worse, she’s just discovered that she owes a very large debt to someone . . . or some thing. And in the undercurrent, debts are taken very seriously.

Evie has until midwinter to pay up . . . or else. So when she gets a job that might save her—even if she’s breaking all her own rules to take it—she can’t pass it up. Now, with danger at her back and uncertain allies beside her, she’ll trace the very bones of Boston itself to protect both the city and the people she loves.

Everyone talks about how amazing this author is.  I do have the first book of here Mercy Thompson series on my shelf as well and now I'm adding this one as well.  Now I just need to get to reading them...

Goodreads Synopsis:
Said to be heavily rewritten from the original story of 1993.

After an upbringing of proper behavior and oppressive expectations, Aralorn fled her noble birthright for a life of adventure as a mercenary spy.

Her latest mission involves spying on the increasingly powerful sorcerer Geoffrey ae'Magi.

But in a war against an enemy armed with the powers of illusion, how do you know who the true enemy is-or where he will strike next?

Winnings:
I won this book by playing on Twitter.  Yep, that's right.  Do you follow @RKCharron on Twitter?  Well before the holidays we where playing the game of name that book.  And I had a blast!  But the one with the most correct guesses first won a book mentioned by @RKCharron.  And there happened to be two of us at the time.  So now I need to get started on this amazing sounding series.

Goodreads Synopsis:
Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules.

She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir’s Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir Princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardian to come.

Now the law has finally caught up with Rose- for a crime she didn’t even commit. She’s in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She’ll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.

But the clock on Rose’s life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back… and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your life is about saving others, who will save you?

So, how are you faring this week?  Does it look like a good reading week for you?

Here's to wishing you all the best in words and pages.
