Mythical Monday (6)

It seems there are many books based on or influenced by Myths and Mythological Beings.

There are so many different Mythology and Mythological Beings recorded. Some are very popular and well known, others not so much. There are many similar beings, yet different depending on the culture it’s based in.  The definition of Myth covers about anything in the Urban Fantasy/Fantasy realm to me.

I’ve invited authors to share briefly the Mythological being or Myth that influenced their character(s) or story, or what their character(s) are based on influencing their books.  Hosting here, one author and being or myth per week.

This week we have:
Dark Paranormal Romace author J.K. Coi
Talking of Demonology.

When Mel invited me to blog with her this Monday and said the theme was Myths and Magic, my squee would have made your ears ring because I LOVE Myths. I use myths and fairytales in pretty much everything I write. Sometimes a LOT, sometimes a little, but I always twist it up and make it my own. I guess you could say it’s my thing.

When I was writing the Immortals series, I did a lot of research on the religious myths surrounding
demonology. My Immortals are charged by God to protect the world from the demons that escape the Abyss, which is ruled by the Destroyer. From Revelation 9:1: And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And from Revelation 9:11: And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon. Basically, this is the angel who chains Satan and casts him into the bottomless pit. He is God’s servant, the destroyer of evil, one of God's angels of destruction, and I used the idea of him as the basis for my demon realms backstory.

In the third book, Dark Immortal, the hero has to deal with a demon prince who has found a way to escape the demon realms, whereas his brother Mastema is still trapped there. Karnage is definitely not a good guy, but he’s also not completely evil. Well, he is but…love has given him one or two redeeming qualities. In fact, he ended up being my favorite character of the series so far and I can’t wait for readers to meet him. I’m still hearing his voice in my head. He’s campaigning for his own book I think.

Maybe I’ll have to look up some more myths to see what I can do.

Thank you so much for letting me be your guest today, Mel!

Dark Immortal (Book 3, Immortals Series) – Available now!
Diana freed Alric from his prison and the insanity his captivity inflicted on him. She healed him with her passion, and now she lies broken after a vampire attack, locked deep inside herself where he cannot reach her.
The huge, muscled man leaning over the strange bed where Diana awakes is straight out of nightmares full of blood and pain. Yet she is drawn to him, her body yearning for him even as her mind struggles to make sense of a lust she can’t recall.
Alric has no intention of giving up on the woman who never stopped fighting for him. His one hope is that she will heal and remember under his familiar touch and given time. But with a demon god poised to tip the balance of power, time is not on their side.
