Monday's Beginnings (82)

How are you faring at the beginning of this week?  Are you starting a new book or finishing one up?

Well...it's Monday.  And I'm tired.  I don't really know why.  Except that I had a fun weekend with a few friends who stopped over.  This is how our weekends go in the summer time, so this is a sign of the weather changing.  I didn't get all the reading done over the weekend as I was looking forward to doing.  But I did get my goals of last week done. Yeah! :)

Reviews I got up last week:  (click book title for link to review)
Chasing the Bard by Philippa Ballantine.  Which, I suggest you check out to see how much I LOVED this book.
The Darkest Edge of Dawn by Kelly Gay.  Another great read with loads of action.

Books Finished & Review to come this week:
City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

Books I'm working on this week:
I'm still reading Grimspace by Ann Aguirre.  This book is for the Blog Book Chats here and at Robyn's blog, Bookoholic Zone.  The second section will be chatted this week at Robyn's blog on Thursday.  The first chat is HERE, if you would like to check it out.
I'm also working on a Young Reader book; Zan-Gah, A Prehistoric Adventure, today.  I plan on being done today and work on the next book in this series.  These are short books, so they go quickly and perfectly with weeks where I'm working on several things here.  I should have the review for the first book up at the end of the week.

This weekend was all about meeting new friends here on the blog. :) I was participating in the Lucky Leprechaun Hop Giveaway.  Oh, are these so much fun.  I will have the winners up later when I get all the numbers worked out.  And so glad to have met so many new people.  I do hope those of you that are following and returning enjoy your visits, and stick around for a while.  :) Please feel free to leave a comment to say hello.  I always comment back here, and try my best to get to your blogs as well.  I try for that day, but that doesn't always work.  But I do visit!

Oh... my WANT list... Well, I'm starting to think I'm forgetting to add stuff as I go through all the blogs because I know I've come across so many more books that I want or love the sounds of.  I've added 16 books to the WANT list!  It's better than the last few weeks but I know it should be better. :)

Received Last Week:
For Review:
I read the first book of this series and LOVED it.  So the second is a given.

Synopsis from Authors site:
In the wild frontiers of the North, life and death balance on a sword's edge.

Caim travels to this forbidding land in search of answers about his past, but the emergence of a new plot from the Shadow tosses him into a malestrom of death and deceit. Against a cunning foe that threatens not just his life, but his very soul, Caim must seek out the strength buried inside him. To free his homeland and himself, he must confront the Shadow's Lure . . .

Bought:
I'm hooked on this series.  What else can I say!?!  I have questions that need answered.  And I will get answers...

Synopsis from Goodreads:
To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters -- never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadow-hunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadow-hunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her new found powers to help save the Glass City -- whatever the cost?

Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the final installment of the New York Timesbestselling trilogy The Mortal Instruments.

Won:
I won $75.00 gift certificate for CSN Furniture over at Adventures of Cecelia Bedelia.  I was so excited that the day I got it, I spent it! lol.  Yep.  I love CSN Furniture.  So, when I get the new item I will definitely share it with you.

So, as for not purchasing books.  Well, that got tossed aside.  I ordered other books as well, but they haven't appeared yet. :) So, I will have more in the future.

So, I've got lots going on this week as I have a little reading to do for a friend (which wont show up here) and things around home with this nice weather starting to show up.  I do hope to get some reading it though.

How are you faring this week?  Does it look like a good reading week for you?

Here's to wishing you all the best in words and pages.

  3. Blodeuedd - I think you would enjoy the book by Jon. It really surprised me. :) Thank you! I was really excited on the GC winning. And had to go shopping right away, although I pretty much new what I wanted. :)

Melissa (Books&Things) - Hey! Oh, I love all the covers here on Jon's books. They really are cool and the first one worked wonderfully with the story, so I'm hoping this one will too. :) lol. I think you would enjoy the Mortal Instruments series there. I'm definitely hooked. lol.

  4. This week is still up in the air. I have one book I am finishing and an ARC tour book on it's way that I need to start when I get it and read swiftly. I also have the L.A. Banks book that needs to be started/finished by the tour date of the 31st.

So I have a busy reading couple of weeks ahead of me. Thankfully I only have a few short days at work, so provided I don't distract myself too much, I should be in good shape.

Oh and congrats on the CSN win! They have wonderful goodies!

  6. I've been reading quite a bit lately. Most recently, The Warded Man (Peter Brett) and The Wise Man's Fear (Rothfuss). At the moment, I'm dabbling with three separate titles... The Hammer (KJ Parker), and In the Shadow of Swords (Val Gunn) and finally, I've started A Game of Thrones again, as I begin to re-read the Song of Ice and Fire series before A Dance with Dragons arrives in July. A mammoth undertaking, but one I look forward to.

Tons of other books crying out on my shelf as well. Ah, a great problem to have!

  7. David - Thank you for stopping by. It sounds like you have a wonderful problem. :) With all those books. Oh, and you read The Wise Man's Fear. I got it and need to slip it into the mix here somewhere. Hmmm, where is it going to go. Oh well. But sounds like you have a wonderful fun stack there to get through. I do hope you enjoy them all.
