Looking Forward To...(44)

There are so many amazing books already on the shelves and new ones coming out.

For a list of books yet to be released I'm looking to get, you can also look on my right Sidebar at the ever growing list titled Desired Reads - just scroll down. Of course there are tones of other new books to come out that are amazing as well, but these ones are part of series I have already started or for one reason or another caught my eye (and haven't seen much on other blogs yet). But I will highlight one here each week.

(mentioned in order of Release Date then Alphabetical if there are more than one book coming out on the same date.)

Next Book Is...

Shady Lady
By:  Ann Aguirre
Due Out:  April 5, 2011

Robyn at The Bookoholic Zone and I do the Book Chats here on our blogs.  And we have read the first two books in the Corine Solomon series, and have enjoyed them so.  So this book would be a given for us.  I can't wait to read this book!

Goodreads Synopsis:
I'd spent my whole life settling, trying not to attract attention, and generally doing whatever it took to keep other people happy. I didn't want to do that again. Not when I was finally comfortable in my own skin. Sure, there were certain challenges, like a drug lord who wanted me dead, and the fact that I owed a demon a debt that he could call due at any moment. But everybody's got problems, right?

Whenever Corine Solomon touches an object, she immediately knows its history. But her own future concerns her more and more. Now back in Mexico, she's running her pawnshop and trying to get a handle on her strange new powers, for she might need them. And soon.

Then former ally Kel Ferguson walks through her door. Heavily muscled and tattooed, Kel looks like a convict but calls himself a holy warrior. This time, he carries a warning for Corine: the Montoya cartel is coming for her--but they don't just pack automatic weapons. The Montoyas use warlocks, shamans, voodoo priests--anything to terminate trouble. And Corine has become enemy number one...

  1. Hi, Melissa! That's a unique magical ability - to know an object's history by touch alone. And with a job at a pawn shop, oh the possibilities...

  4. StephanieD - Hi! *Waves* Oh, this is really a fun series. Corine does have her work cut out for her with this magical ability. :) And in owning a pawn shop, she knows if you should have the item or not. lol.

Mel - lol. Yes. Not much longer to wait on this one. :) I do really enjoy Corine and the thoughts of her powers growing. I think I like that. :) I really liked where her powers went to in Hell Fire.

Melissa (Books & Things) - Yep. You do need to read these. :) I think you would really enjoy them. ;) lol.

  5. I'm not a fan of psychometry-like powers, so I've been skeptical of trying this series.

Does she have any other powers? I don't mind being spoiled, I'm mainly interested in knowing how she deals with more powerful beings.

Recently read Dead to Me by Anton Strout whose main character has powers like these, and didn't enjoy it much.

  7. Bastard - Corine doesn't have any other powers, but she is trying to not use hers as much. She gets burned when she does. And she got her powers because her mother died to give them to her. Now that I think about it, she uses her powers but it's not a big thing to use. There is more going on with her ex-boyfriend asking for her help in the first book to find his mother. I actually enjoyed the mix of all the different abilities in the different characters and the fights they had to go through in the story. I think the first book even ended with zombies, in a way. I think these books would make wonderful movies as Ann keeps going forward with the plot and the action through out the book. And the second book is more about Corine learning about her past or her mothers death and her home town. Now here her powers do start to grow. So I'm curious to see where Ann will go with them now as they started to be used more here. But the ghost and demon theme is here. But even in the second book, I would love to see it as a movie. And here there is another more powerful demon lurking in the woods of the town. I really enjoyed these books. But there is a love triangle here in these books too. Which I think there was a blogger or two I chat with that was not really into the way Corine was written with this triangle. But the love triangle thing doesn't bother me as its in most stories these days, and I love both the possible love interests. So either one is good for me. If you do try this series I do hope you enjoy it, and you'll have to let me know what you thought.

  9. Might give it a try, but it's way down on my list at the moment.

Seems to me like you should give Diana Rowland's Kara Gillian a try.

  10. Bastard - I think you might like this series by Ann Aguirre. But, thanks for the suggestion. I do have Diana Rowland's Kara Gillian series on my want list. It sounds like one I would really enjoy. Now, I'm going to have to bump that one up on the want list. Thanks!
