Monday's Beginnings (74)

How are you faring in reading at the beginning of this week?  Are you starting a new book or finishing one up?

Well... it's Monday... Not much to say about it as it's just a typical Monday here.  Not good but not outstanding either.  So, just Monday.  I finished reading Happy Hour of the Damned by Mark Henry, and really enjoyed the story about Amanda Feral.  Got to love that zombie. ;)  Do you want to join in the chat for the book?  CLICK HERE!  We would love to have you join in.

Speaking of the Book Chats we have the next book picked and scheduled out.  I think you all would love to join in as it is the second book of Sabina Kane by Jaye Wells - The Mage in Black.  We are hoping to gear up and read for the prepping of The Green-Eyed Demon coming out March 1st.  So stop by HERE to see the schedule for February and join in.

And I finished reading Siren's Call by Devyn Quinn.  Another great read with Mermaids and Magic.  I've started typing up these reviews, so hope to tweak them this week and get them posted for you.

I did get the review for The Half-Made World by Felix Gilman posted over the weekend.  If you would like to read it you can do so HERE.

I'm getting ready to start Lodestone Book One: The Sea of Storms by Mark Whiteway.  I received this book for review and I'm looking forward to getting into it.  It sounds very interesting with the magic.  And I think it's a young adult book as well.  Which I enjoy reading.

My WANT list... I've added 10 books.  I know, not many as compared to before.  But I am really trying to calm down. Ha! Ha! Well, I'm going to be in big trouble one of these weeks as I'm really going to add loads of books.  Boy, I wish I could read as fast as I add them!

Goodreads Synopsis:
Explore the emotional upheaval that is the transformation from human to vampire.

Bleeding to death after brutal mugging on the campus of UNLV, Twenty-five year old Alyssa, is rescued by the cold and aloof, vampire, Lysander. Taking pity on her, he shares the gift-and curse-of immortality. She awakens as a vampire and is soon devastated by harsh realities of her new way of life: An unyielding thirst for blood as well as the loss of her friends, her independence, and her humanity.

As if having her humanity stripped away was not enough to make life interesting, Alyssa finds out her "turning", did not go unnoticed by the rest of undead society. Old enemies; an ancient sect of vampire hunters, known as the Acta Sanctorum, as well as a powerful Vampire mistress, each set plans in motion to destroy both Alyssa and Lysander.

Only by accepting her new-found immortality, seizing the night, will Alyssa hope to survive. She and Lysander must fight together against two sets of enemies bent on destroying them both.

Goodreads Synopsis:
Becoming a vampire saved Alyssa from death, but the price was high: the loss of everything and everyone attached to her mortal life. She s still learning to cope when a surprise confrontation with Santino Vitale, the Acta Sanctorum s most fearsome hunter, sends her fleeing back to the world she once knew, and Fallon, the friend she s missed more than anything.

Alyssa breaks vampire law by revealing her new, true self to her old friend, a fact which causes strong division in the group that should support her most: her clan.
Worse yet, her revelation entangles Fallon in the struggle between vampires and hunters and The Acta Sanctorum is ready to attack again, with a new army of hybrid creations: the Frenzy Soldiers.

If Alyssa hopes to survive and keep her mortal friend safe, she ll have to be willing to make a deal with the enemy, and regain her clan s support. It will take everyone working together in a precarious truce to fight against the Acta Sanctorum s new threat.

Oh and for my shopping.... I've started again. :) Yeap, I picked up a few books today which will show up on next weeks Monday's Beginnings and ordered another from Amazon.  If the Amazon book shows up in time it too will be on next weeks Monday's Beginnings.

So, how are you faring this week?  Does it look like a good reading week for you?

Here's to wishing you the best in words and pages.

Melissa (Books&Things) - Lol! Yep, mermaids. I'm hoping to have the review up by the end of the week. And I guess the two weeks I took off of shopping I made up for it this week. :) Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Hope you had a great week. I really haven't had the chance to stop by as often as I would like I came to say hi and see how everything is going. My list of TBR books is rapidly growing but I keep guilt-tripping myself out of buying any of them. I think that for my birthday next month I'll let myself go a little crazy and buy a bunch of books from The Book Depository.
I hope you enjoy the books that you just bought, and have a great weekend!

    Simcha
