Flash Fiction Friday (41)

Dottie over at Tink's Place have come up with the idea for a Monday Morning Flash Fiction challenge. Each Monday a new picture prompt will be posted and if you choose to participate you post your story on Friday - 350 words, give or take.

I have to thank Blodeuedd at Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell for introducing me to this fun meme. I don't know if I'll be able to keep up with every week, but I'll give it a try from time to time.

Story by:  Melissa
A continuation of Cheyenne and Liam

Cheyenne, still in shock from the rapid turn of events in their conversation, looked to Liam. "Are you keeping secrets?  After all these years?"

Liam looked up to Cheyenne, "No more than others around here."  Then winced after realizing the way the quick response would be taken.

"Ooh, No you don't."  Her voice rose.  "You knew, I didn't.  I didn't know what to share with you without knowing myself what I was or what was going on."

Liam raised a hand, "I didn't mean it that way."  waving around the three of them, "We all have secrets we've kept.  Whether from embarrassment, fear, or to protect out love.  We've kept them."

Cheyenne sighed.  True, she didn't share hers because being different in magic.  When she was young it would've brought harassment from others, then she was afraid of what would happen to her and then Liam, when he came into her life.  He had to have done the same.

Cerine turned to Liam, "All in all, we don't have long here.  Phoenix can be back any moment.  You need to tell us what we have at our disposal, or what could be used against us.  Obviously Linnie and Phoenix know something.  They could be plotting at this moment."

Liam nodded.  "I'll make this as short as I can.  I was approached one day in the woods when I was around ten.  I always lived in the wild, before coming to the city and this was the reason for moving my home to the stone city.  A woman of pure natural beauty appeared at the end of the path I was walking.  She walked with her head bowed, almost a sad presense about her.  Her long ravin dark hair hung in a pony tail cascading down her back flowing in like a dark river.  But she had a stunning ruffled sun yellow gown.  She radiated the sun; that dress, her pail pure skin.  All glowing bright like the sun itself."

Cheyenne spoke up, "I'm associated with the sun.  That's where my power comes from."

Liam nodded, "I've gathered as much, not at first, but more and more over time.  When I saw this woman, I remember thinking she was a figment of my imagination, no woman dressed as she was would wonder the woods, and still have a flawless dress.  She approached me, as I slowed.  She told me I would grow to become a protector of hers, raised her hand, brushing my hair from my face with a gentle warm touch of her fingers and kissed my forehead."

"Um, that sounds like a prophecy to me." Cheyenne smarted back.

Cerine answered before Liam, "Yes dear.  You are marked by our sun goddess."

Liam nodded.  "I know.  And I think the one I'm to be protector to," looking with sad eyes to Cheyenne, "is you."

Cheyenne chuckled.  "Oh no.  I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself."

"You are.  But I can help you more, as I always have.  Be a team.  And we might be able to get out of here."

Cheyenne leaned back in her chair crossing her arms, "We have always been a team.  But my question is, if you are a protector of our kind, what does that make you?"

Liam opened his mouth, then shut it as a pop sizzled in the air at the head of the table and Phoenix appeared standing, eyeing them down.

I'm not a fan of this one, but then 570 words later, and I'm still going. :)
