Book Chat (6)...Demon Bound

We are in our second week of the Black London Series by Caitlin Kittredge.  Last week we chatted about Street Magic hosted by Robyn at her blog, The Bookoholic Zone.  If you would like to jump to Street Magic's chat CLICK HERE.  This week we are chatting about Demon Bound, the second book in the series.

Well, lets get started!

We have pulled some questions to start us off...

Robyn:
1.  The dreams that Jack has of Pete and him.  What do you think they represent?
2.  Now that we know Pete and Jack have been split up again by the end of this book.  How do you think she'll react when she sees him again?
3.  What characters did you miss seeing in this book?

Melissa:
1.  The Hecate has mentioned that the fires of war are coming.  What will the war be over and what do you think will happen?
2.  In the end Morrigan visits with Jack to bring him back.  Morrigan mentions he is dead, but the crow-mage cycles.  How do you think Jack will come back?  Will he be with Pete?
3.  At the end of the book Jack and Pete are talking about everyone having a 'fetch,' the one to come and escort your soul in death.  Jack and Pete perform a ritual to make Jack Pete's fetch.  Do you think Jack is her fetch or not?  If not than who?

So, let us know your thoughts!  And what speculation you might have for the next book, now out. :)

  1. I wish I could figure out how Jack will come back. Will he just show up out of nowhere?

I think he'll just to talk to Pete but we know Pete will be upset or should I say angry?

  2. I think Jack is her fetch. Those two are connected and I think even powerful together. They are meant for each other.

  3. Sorry I'm late getting on. I got the kid on the bus then went up to the house to look around in prep for our meeting later today.

    But...

I don't know how Jack will come back either. Morrigan, at the end, comes to take Jack and seems like to send him back to be with Pete. But then mentions that he is dead and the crow-mage cycles. I don't want him in another body. I want him in his body. But I am afraid he will be put in another body and have to find Pete and prove how he is.

But Morrigan is very powerful too. So I don't know whats up the sleeve there. I am really curious to see.

  4. Aaaa, Pete's Fetch...

I don't think Jack is her fetch. I know they did that 'ritual' but I think she already had one. The Owl. That owl seems to show up places and she remembers seeing it as a child too. I think the owl is going to play a bigger part but I also think its her fetch.

I think there is something even more powerful between Pete and Jack. The way it is mentioned that the two could be very dangerous to each other together because of their powers, weir & crow-mage. Almost deadly to themselves. But Jack and Pete seemed to be able to make it work for themselves somehow.

  5. The dreams that Jack was having. Almost seemed like it was someone playing with Jack to tell the future of what should happen. Something of a dark magic feel. Something about the Weir and Crow-mage dealing with power.

But then I wondered if it was the Demon he made the deal with playing with his head. Or then in the end if it was Morrigan playing with him too. Hard to tell. But I do think there is black magic behind it.

  6. I forgot about the owl.

I think people are going to realize their power and try to take advantage of that. Maybe in the next book? Bone Gods will have to be them finding each other, I hope, haha.

  7. When Pete sees Jack again... I think she'll give him a good old slap across the face and yell at him for leaving. Or at least being stupid enough to make a deal for his soul. :) Even though she'll be estatic to see him, she is still the tough one inside too. :)

  8. I had loved reading this book. But there was one small thing I was bummed about, and it was just I was hoping to learn more about Pete, or have her learn more about herself. This book seemed to be focused on Jack. And I do love Jack but I want to know more about Pete & her powers too. But I am wondering with the way this book ended if it is a great setup to spotlight Pete next. With taking Jack out of the picture Pete has to grow and quickly.

  9. There is definitely something behind those dreams. I agree though it has to do with Black Magic. Does it predict the future or what could be? Or just playing with him? Yeah, good question, hehe.

  10. She will definitely not hide how she feels. I can definitely see a slap across the cheek. Than Jack will give his usual remark at her when she gets upset.

At least I hope so. I'm wondering how much Jack will change after this book.

  11. In the end Morrigan mentions that Pete's and Jack's desinies are intertwined with each other. At first I was excited to hear that thinking they will be together in the end, or next book. But then Morrigan kept talking and I started to worry that it may not be a good thing. I am hoping I am wrong about that bad feeling. But I think as a book it would be a great read. :) I am wondering about these two being together. Seems like their powers fit well together and in the magic world maybe they shouldn't.

  12. I wanted to know more about Pete too. I hope Bone Gods does focus on Pete. Jack, also of course. But let's get some more info on Pete.

I did like in this one how we go to know Jack a little more. I wonder if she will go back and forth with each character on the books.

  13. LOL! I forgot about Jacks response. Yeah! He will most definitely get his dig in on Pete that pushes that button to infuriate her. :D I love that about them! LOL!

Oh yeah. Jack changing... I don't know. I wonder if them to truly being 'together' now will make a difference and what will this little trip to Hell do to him. It seems in the end when he tells Morrigan no he hasn't changed. But what will he learn there and will it taint his view of Pete?

  14. I have a feeling, those with power will do whatever they can to keep them apart. There is definitely going to be some obstacles when they find each other again.

I would love to see how their powers really work together. What we have read seems too easy for them. I bet as Pete advances, their powers together will grow.

  15. Yeah, I liked learning more on Jack too. For some reason when Street Magic ended I was just ready to get into Pete and her powers. So with my jumping ahead to wanting to know I was a little bummed, but NOT AT ALL at the story. I really liked picking up more on Jack. He is a great character and not the goody goody either. :)

It would be neat to rotate between the characters. But we need to see Pete grow more now too. She has used Jack as a crutch, in a way. She is still new to her powers and Jack was helping her learn about the magic world more. But I think she needs to be thrown in the ice cold water head first and see if she can swim. ;D She will do wonderfully I think. This separation will help her expand her resources and abilities. She will get to know herself a little more too.

  16. That's why I'm wondering how they will be around each other for the first time. With Jack away, I'm sure Pete had to survive on her own or maybe she found others who taught her? (Maybe see that in the next book?)

What Pete goes through without Jack, will definitely change her.

I could see Pete not trusting Jack at first. She'll be unsure of him. She will wonder what Hell did to him.

  17. Yeah, they seem like they could be very powerful together. I could see all wanting to keep them apart.

My mind is a little foggy, but was it said somewhere that a Weir and Crow-mage have tried to pair up before but it turned out pretty bad for the ones involved? That it would make a powerful pair but it wasn't able to be done before? I can't remember. I thought that was part in what happened at the graveyard scene that it was hard to blend their powers together. But there have been moments of the two touching and Pete having powerful reactions - in fighting off others. It seems like these two can overcome the adverse reactions somehow.

  18. I want Jack to be the one to teach her how to use her powers. I would hate someone butting in.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think the one big question for Pete is going to be why Jack was allowed to come back to her. Or how he came back to her.

She knows he is in Hell and can't leave. He is dead. But if he comes back, eventhough she will be thrilled to have him back she will be weary of why he is back. Did he leave to come back? And if so when is the Demon coming to take him again? Those would definitely be worries for me.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I just remember reading, a weird and crow-mage can be dangerous.

But I know our couple can fight it....I hope :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. LOL. Who would butt in though? I'm not sure there is someone else to teach Pete. It would seem to me if anyone would teach her it would be to take advantage of her abilities. As, that was where her and Jack started, He wanted to use her powers.

I'm trying to think if one of Jack's friends we met would be willing to help her. But most of them I don't think I would trust so much.

  22. For the person butting in. I'm wondering if it will be a whole new character for the new book.

Okay have to leave for work :(. Will chat later tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I wonder if we will get new characters! Ohh, great line of thinking there. :)

Okay, I have to get to packing too. :) Chat with you later. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think Bone Gods could have some new characters and of course maybe old.

    Hope packing is fun :).

I'm not starting Bone Gods until tomorrow night, so I'm still okay to chat if you're on :).

  25. Do you remember when or why Jack made the deal with the demon? I'm going back through and reading my questions I had at the time, before the end of the book. Was it for a name for himself or war it the night in the graveyard with Pete those years ago?

    ReplyDelete
  26. If I recall, it had to do with Pete. If I remember him, talking to it. He wanted to make sure she would be okay. I think. Let me see if I can find it.

  27. I have to mention the black dog that talks to Jack. On pages 138-139. The dog calls Pete the blood-born messenger of the old voices along with the girl on the owls wing. This is a great section to read. The Black dog gives some interesting insight on Pete and weir heritage.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Okay I was thinking of the part where Pete was talking to the Demon and Jack said it wasn't her problem and to leave her alone.

It was the bargain for the name. He challenges the Demon for the name in front of the Triumvirate.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I had thought it was for Pete that first night years ago in the graveyard with what they let loose then, or started to let loose

    ReplyDelete
  30. The black dog wants her for something. I'm wondering if it's for good. He says, that he wants to keep her from death. Is it for good? Or does magic have other plans?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Okay. I was rereading the same section and then started to second guess myself on why Jack made the deal. Thank you for finding that. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. They mention the graveyard and demon in a flashback.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ooooh speaking of the fetch. Saw this quote.

"When Pete lay dying on the graveyard earth, Jack was with her. As long as Jack has Pete, nothing can steal his soul away. Jack is bound to her surely as the crow is bound to him. Jack Winter, fetch of the Hecate's Weir.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Not a problem. I had to look. :). It takes me awhile. I need to start putting notes where I read.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I find this whole conversation interesting. The section on 139 is interesting. Maybe I'm reading to much into it, but I'm starting to wonder...

'We are seeking to keep her from the taint of death, the mud and blood and carnage of the crow.'

This makes me wonder if the Black Dog is trying to protect Pete from the war thats coming. And I'm starting to think Jack is on the side Pete will be fighting against. The thing is the Black Dog is who guards the doorways and byways. So who do they work for? Who is the wild card here that is trying to help Pete?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh, where did you find that quote? That is a great one!

:D See that's why I use colored sticky notes. The little ones. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. That's what I want to know now.

Jack is obviously going to the evil side (at least we are guessing he is)

But what do they want with Pete? Is it another type of evil? Maybe it is good.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The quote is on page 337

It goes on a little further down the page to say, "Body and soul," Jack tells Pete. "I'm yours. I"m the fetch you never had. You and I are bound, by blood and by stone. Bound for all the turns of the earth."

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well, now I'm not sure who Pete's fetch is. If it is Jack then what is up with the owl? Maybe we will find out soon.

I wonder even who is the evil side? What will or have they done to be the 'bad guys'? There has to be a lot going on in this magical world we don't know about. And maybe even Jack didn't really know about. Or maybe that is part of why he turned to the drugs and alcohol.

    ReplyDelete
  40. What chances are there that Bone Gods will answer all those questions?? haha.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ha ha. It would be nice if we got all of them answered. But then the series would end...maybe... we don't want that to happen. :) But maybe we can start getting thoughts on a lot of this.

I really like the sutle way Caitlin has added all this in. It is fun going back and starting to connect the dots after the fact. :)

  42. Well, I'm heading off. Eye lids are starting to get heavy. :) I'll try to get back on over the weekend, but I don't know if I'll be able to. We are going to start moving stuff tomorrow. So I think it will all be a downward slide from there in packing and unpacking. :) But I will try to get back on. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. No worries :).

    Have fun moving!!!!
