Monday's Beginnings (41)

Here we are again... Another Monday.

How are you faring in reading at the beginning of this week?  Are you starting a new book or finishing one up?

I don't know what it is around here, but it seems that since the weather changed to summer we have been on the run... to no where.  I don't know what we have been doing, but I seem to be short on reading time lately.  I am trying to find it again.

I finished The Warded Man by Peter V. Brett at the end of the week.  I will be polishing up that review to be posted here in a day or two.  I started Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel for #tuesbooktalk on Twitter.  ( If anyone would like to join in with us, please do!  We meet at 10:30 pm est on twitter.  And we are only through the first section of just about 36 pages. )  I also started Wild Hunt by Margaret Ronald.  I have read her first book, Spiral Hunt and enjoyed it.  I have been able to get about half way through the book here this weekend.  So, I am hoping this one will be the one to get me back on my reading schedule.  I am hoping to get done with it by the middle of the week, review, and start into Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane.  Unholy Ghosts is up for book discussion as a featured read at Barnes 'n Nobles book forums.

I didn't get much reading done yet today.  I wasn't able to read at lunch as we ate lunch out today.  But I am hoping to get reading done this evening.  I am going to try hard to get there and through my goal for Wild Hunt.

As for my Wishlist... I have added 4 books this week.  It's not much, but the authors should still be pleased to hear I want many of the books.  I am now in need of at least two more of the smaller 3 shelf set shelving.  Or, I could just get a big one! I am trying to wait to get the shelves as we have been having a lot going on at home and maybe by the end of the year I will have my own little room for my shelves.  So, I want to get ones that all match and fit well.

Books Received this Week:

Purchased:
I purchased Unholy Ghosts for the book discussion over at Barnes n Nobles forums this month.  I am hoping to dive into it next.

Synopsis from GoodReads:
THE DEPARTED HAVE ARRIVED.

The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen, and the living are under attack. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully tattooed witch and freewheeling ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for banishing the wicked dead. But Chess is keeping a dark secret: She owes a lot of money to a murderous drug lord named Bump, who wants immediate payback in the form of a dangerous job that involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls. Toss in lust for a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump’s ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah.

I was at a friends house over the weekend for a get-together.  I started talking books with their teenage daughter, which many of what she has are on my wishlist or on my shelves.  But, with the whole discussion I saw The Host, and asked if she liked it.  Long story made short, they had an extra copy and where kind enough to give me their spare copy.  I am so excited!  Both the daughter and my friend spoke highly of the book.  Now I have to give it a try.

Synopsis from GoodReads:
The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. But Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves--Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.--From publisher description.

So, now to you... How are you faring this week so far?  Does it look like a great reading week for you?

  3. I really enjoyed The Painted/Warded Man myself. I look forward to reading what you thought of it.

As for The Host. Well, I'm not a fan of Meyer's these days. I thought it was okay back when I did read it but the whole scenario seems like something out of Animorphs or Stargate. Geez, I loved Animorphs as a kid! XD
