Looking Forward To... (37)

There are so many amazing books already on the shelves and new ones coming out.

For a list of books yet to be released I'm looking to get, you can also look on my right Sidebar at the ever growing list titled Desired Reads - just scroll down. Of course there are tones of other new books to come out that are amazing as well, but these ones are part of series I have already started or for one reason or another caught my eye (and haven't seen much on other blogs yet). But I will highlight one here each week.

(mentioned in order of Release Date then Alphabetical if there are more than one book coming out on the same date.)

Next Book Is...

The Dragon's Path (#1)
By:  Daniel Abraham
Due Out:  April 2011

This is a new book/series for me.  This sounds like a great fantasy read.  One where the hero's are trying to get away from war and not run into it.  But, sounds like they are going to be stuck dead center of it.  And as I am a cover person, this cover has really caught my eye.  Yes, it's very simple, but it speaks mountains to me.  The foursome traveling, the read river (could that be blood from the war the foursome doesn't want to fight?), the dark sky (leaves me feeling an evil presence not yet seen), then there is that beautiful sword.  Yes, I'm a cover sucker.  I've added this one to my list.

I've heard great things of Daniel Abraham's The Long Price series, and yet to get to it, but this one sounds like a wonderful place to start too.

Goodreads Synopsos:
Summer is the season of war in the Free Cities.

Marcus wants to get out before the fighting starts. His hero days are behind him and simple caravan duty is better than getting pressed into service by the local gentry. Even a small war can get you killed. But a captain needs men to lead -- and his have been summarily arrested and recruited for their swords.

Cithrin has a job to do -- move the wealth of a nation across a war zone. An orphan raised by the bank, she is their last hope of keeping the bank's wealth out of the hands of the invaders. But she's just a girl and knows little of caravans, war, and danger. She knows money and she knows secrets, but will that be enough to save her in the coming months?

Geder, the only son of a noble house is more interested in philosophy than swordplay. He is a poor excuse for a soldier and little more than a pawn in these games of war. But not even he knows what he will become of the fires of battle. Hero or villain? Small men have achieved greater things and Geder is no small man.

Falling pebbles can start a landslide. What should have been a small summer spat between gentlemen is spiraling out of control. Dark forces are at work, fanning the flames that will sweep the entire region onto The Dragon's Path -- the path of war.
