Synopsis:
I thought I knew the world of magic. I knew nothing.

By the skin of my teeth, I passed the Vampire Court trials. I’m officially an ally, with the seductive vampire Ares on my side. Everything should be good, except that there’s a magical mob boss on the hunt for dragons. Problem is: dragons are supposed to be dead. So what does he know that I don’t?

It’s a race against the clock to save the dragons. But things get dangerous when the mob boss starts hunting me. What was a straightforward mission becomes a tangled web of intrigue and danger. I can only get out alive if I embrace my strange new magic--along with the help of Ares and my friends.

Origin of Magic is a fast-paced urban fantasy thriller with a kick-butt heroine, a tough hero, and magic that will blow your socks off.

First Sentence:
The streets of Magic's Bend were eerily quiet as I turned toward Darklane, the part of town where the black magic practitioners lived.

My Thoughts and Summary:
*I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Laurel continues to share how talented she is and how she can bring new feeling to new characters in the book. Laurel has done a great job at voicing accents and personalities for the characters. We even cross a few ghosts and the feel of the creepy described is in Laurel's voice. Great addition to the world.

I got into listening to Nix's story and forgot to type up notes about it. That's a great thing!!

Nix learns about her parents and where her magic comes from. Her magic is tied to her fate and what she's destined to do in the Triumphant. The history passed down through her mothers family. I love where Nix's magic came from. It makes sense and feels true to her.

The connection to Nix's past and her current situation with the Mob Boss is connected in a way with the vase she has. Nix continues on to find what she needs to ultimately find the Mob Boss (who gets a real name) and defeat his evil.

Nix doesn't have the strong fighting powers Cass and Del have, but her powers are growing insanely stronger each day. Plus, Nix jumps into danger ready to conjure what she needs to defeat the evil she faces. Nix feels to be braver than the others because of her power being what it is. She can use it to fight, but it's not like throwing fireballs. Nix conjures what she needs along with destroying what she can, but doing this drains her powers so she has to be careful. But the new power growing in her is something interesting. It's life. No, she's not pregnant. It's her connection to plants that grows stronger.

Nix's story is about her, but I get a sense it's more too. Nix learns about herself, past and powers, but she's also learning what's in store for her deifiur. This makes the story feel deeper for me. I love that there feels to be two fold in the story line.

I am enjoying how Linsey's writing in this world has grown. I don't feel as though she has to give me a complete recap of the previous stories in the beginning of the book. And how she's showing the character through her actions and reactions. I'm really enjoying the writing here.

In this book we start to see a spark of dragon connection. I feel as though we are leading to more with the three girls as well. They are all key in something more, which we know of but we get the feel as we are getting closer to that 'something', what they are fated to do. This makes me even more excited to continue with the last two books with Nix!
