Sunday Post #112

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It seems Monday through Wednesday go so slow, then Thursday through Sunday flies by. It seems I have so much to do at the end of the week, but all things I enjoy and want to do.
I went and test drove a new vehicle. I love my Subaru. It's the biggest car I've ever had and it's done me well. But I'm ready for another. And I want a standard transmission. I love driving a stick, and my current vehicle is the first I've had that's an automatic. So...we found a base model Impreza that is a prefect fit for me. I love smaller vehicles, and now that Kiddo is grown I don't need all the space as much. So, I should be getting my new car Monday or Tuesday. The local car dealer has to go get it from where it's at, that's why I have to wait. I'm so excited though!
We went to a first birthday party yesterday for dear, dear friends granddaughter. They are like family. I had such a great time and took some photos for them. Hard to believe she's a year old. Where does the time go?!?
What awesome have you seen or done this past week?
Reviews:
Forged In Magic by Linsey Hall
"The book ties together the worries Nix, Cass, and Del have with living in Magic's Bend and what they are. They all have what feels like an ending here. We got lots of history about what they are as well."
Archenemies by Marissa Meyer
"Marissa has written the book in a way to lead you to expect a few events to come to pass. The story is well crafted to draw me along a line of trouble for our favorite characters. The events happen differently than I thought, which is nice to see it wasn't a cardboard cutout. I love it!"
Valley of Dry Bones by J.F. Penn
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
An ancient prophecy.
An occult secret.
The power to raise the dead.
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling thriller author, J.F.Penn.
When a long-hidden tomb and a body covered in Voodoo symbols are found in New Orleans, ARKANE agent Jake Timber discovers a mystery that stretches back to the Spanish Empire and the bloody dungeons of the Inquisition.
But he is not the only one who seeks the Hand of Ezekiel. A shadowy billionaire, backed by those who seek immortality at any price, will stop at nothing to find the relics that can turn bones to living flesh.
When disaster strikes in the heart of the Louisiana bayou, Jake calls on ARKANE agent Morgan Sierra to help him once more as they race against time across the outposts of the Spanish Empire.
From Madrid and Toledo to the Philippines, Peru, and on to New Orleans and San Francisco, can Morgan and Jake find the relics and stop the resurrection of the dead?
A page-turning archaeological thriller with elements of the supernatural and occult, Valley of Dry Bones blends religious mystery with Indiana Jones-style action adventure.
Valley of Dry Bones is book 10 in the ARKANE action adventure thriller series, but can be read as a stand-alone novel.
In An Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire
PICK AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
This fourth entry and prequel tells the story of Lundy, a very serious young girl who would rather study and dream than become a respectable housewife and live up to the expectations of the world around her. As well she should.
When she finds a doorway to a world founded on logic and reason, riddles and lies, she thinks she's found her paradise. Alas, everything costs at the goblin market, and when her time there is drawing to a close, she makes the kind of bargain that never plays out well.
Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
There are the old stories. And then there’s what actually happens.
Kihrin is a bastard orphan who grew up on storybook tales of long-lost princes and grand quests. When he is claimed against his will as the long-lost son of a treasonous prince, Kihrin finds that being a long-lost prince isn't what the storybooks promised.
Far from living the dream, Kihrin finds himself practically a prisoner, at the mercy of his new family's power plays and ambitions. He also discovers that the storybooks have lied about a lot of other things things, too: dragons, demons, gods, prophecies, true love, and how the hero always wins.
Then again, maybe he’s not the hero, for Kihrin isn’t destined to save the empire.
He’s destined to destroy it . . .
Uniting the worldbuilding of a Brandon Sanderson with the storytelling verve of a Patrick Rothfuss, debut author Jenn Lyons delivers an entirely new and captivating fantasy epic. Prepare to meet the genre’s next star.
But when the all-powerful society, the Order of Babel, seeks him out for help, Séverin is offered a treasure that he never imagined: his true inheritance.
To find the ancient artifact the Order seeks, Séverin will need help from a band of experts: An engineer with a debt to pay. A historian who can't yet go home. A dancer with a sinister past. And a brother in all but blood, who might care too much.
The Dysasters by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast
Goodreads Synopsis:
Foster Stewart knows she's different. Her life has never been "normal." Talking to plants and controlling cloud formations aren't things most seventeen year olds are into. Tate "Nighthawk" Taylor is perfect. Star quarterback and all around dreamy boy next door he never thought about his "extra" abilities. What quarterback wouldn't want night vision? That's not weird, right? It's cool!
But on the night of their first meeting a deadly tornado brings them together and awakens their true abilities - the power to control the element air. Unbeknown to Tate and Foster, they are the first in a group of teens that were genetically manipulated before birth to bond with the elements. Which truly sucks for Foster, as she has to face the fact that Dr. Rick Stewart, her beloved scientist father, betrayed her and now wants to use her and the others for his own nefarious world domination plot.
Foster and Tate must stop Dr. Stewart and his minions before he destroys their lives and the world.
Jack Ryder Mystery Series Vol 1-3 by Willow Rose
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
Spine chilling tales from sunny Florida
- HIT THE ROAD JACK:
Ben is supposed to be in school. It's Monday morning but his parents are still asleep after a night of heavy drinking. Ben waits patiently, even though he knows he is missing out on today's field trip to the zoo. But, when his black Labrador suddenly runs upstairs and comes down with a finger in his mouth, Ben knows he's not making it to school today at all.
Detective Jack Ryder is chaperoning his kids' field trip when he gets the call from the head of the Cocoa Beach Police Department. A body has been found and they need his help. Soon, Jack finds himself up against a killer, a predator who ruthlessly chases women and kills them so they can never leave him. The case soon causes serious consequences for him and his family once the truth is revealed.
With her new hero, Jack Ryder, as a loving father and committed detective, a new location in tropical Florida, and a story that moves at an incredible pace, Hit the Road Jack is Willow Rose at the top of her game.
- SLIP OUT THE BACK JACK:
They take turns with the knife, cutting their thumbs open. A drop of blood lands on the dark wooden table. Eyes meet across the room. All four thumbs are pressed against each other one by one. Blood is shared, secrets buried.
Years later a brutal madman sprays bullets into a crowd at a movie theater in Miami and sends a chill through the entire nation. When human remains are discovered in the dense forest next to a biking trail in Brevard County, it is only the beginning of a series of gruesome murders, which will shock the entire Space Coast.
Detective Jack Ryder is preoccupied with Shannon King and the strange email she has just received that leaves her terrified just as she prepares to go on stage at the Runaway Country Festival. Jack Ryder senses the connection and soon he realizes he is on the hunt for a serial killer with a killing spree that spans over more than a decade.
It's spring break in Cocoa Beach and evil is lurking everywhere.
- THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT:
Scott Kingston is afraid of monsters. He thinks they’re lurking outside his bedroom window at night when his mother tucks him in. He asks his mother to keep the light on to scare the monsters away. But that light is exactly what lures the kidnapper to his window and the next morning, Scott Kingston is gone.
Twenty-eight years later, Vernon Johnson is released from jail after spending the biggest part of his life on death row, convicted of having kidnapped and killed Scott Kingston. As so many times before, he has appealed his case, but this time, the judge decides to let him go. A witness has finally told the truth, and there is no longer sufficient evidence to keep him in jail.
But shortly after Vernon Johnson is released and has returned to his childhood town, another child disappears, and soon all eyes are on him again.
Jack Ryder is getting ready to build the house of his dreams while hoping that Shannon won’t end up in jail for the murder her ex-husband committed. She is expecting their child and the pregnancy, along with the worrying, takes a toll on the both of them, especially when a dark secret is revealed about the lot where they are preparing to build their house.
Valhalla Online by Kevin McLaughlin
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
A new LitRPG adventure from the imagination of USA Today bestselling author Kevin O. McLaughlin!
More than just a game, Valhalla Online was designed as a permanent repository for the uploaded minds of mortals afraid of death. An artificial afterlife.
Samantha’s world is turned upside-down when she arrives in Valhalla - because as far as she knows, she isn’t like the other people uploaded there.
She isn’t dead. At least...she hopes she isn’t.
Now Sam must solve the mystery of her own abduction - or murder! - while trapped inside a virtual world, cut off from communication with the outside. To do this she must do more than simply survive Valhalla - she needs to win the game!
˃˃˃ Excerpt from the book:
The battle raged only a dozen feet ahead. Men with green bandanas tied to their arms, or with green paint on their shields, were holding a position on the wall facing off against a squad of blue-bearing troops.
The bad news was that the green troops - whom Sam assumed were the enemy - had ladders up against the outside of the wall. More troops were climbing into the fort every moment. The good news was that most of them were facing the blue troops on the other side of the rampart. Their backs were to Harald and Sam.
Harald didn’t pause for more than a moment to let his eyes adjust before rushing in. He gave a terrific scream, bashing the one green warrior with his shield as he was trying to climb onto the wall. The man lost his balance and fell backwards outside the fort. There was a long cry as he fell, which cut off suddenly. It sounded like the drop on the other side of the wall was at least as far as the one on this side.
An arrow flashed upward from somewhere outside the fort. Acting entirely on instinct, Sam raised her shield just in time to ward the shot. It stuck into the wood with a resounding thunk. The impact stung her fingers and left them buzzing. How the hell had she found herself in this crazy situation?
