Monday's Beginnings (160)

It's a Monday...

Boy was it a tough morning to drag my backside out of bed. *groan*  But at work and coffee's on.

It was a decent week, in books...so I think. :) I got half way in my chat book, finished another novel, and read a hundred page novella, and got through many pages of the chat book last night.  So all in all, a great week in pages.  The novella was one I wanted some time ago, but it only came in eformat, so I couldn't get as I didn't have a reader.  But I remembered the novella and purchased it last week, it's been wearing on me so I just had to get to reading it.  And boy and I glad I did!  lol.  You'll have to wait for the review to come around. :)

As for this week, well, lets take it one day at a time.  I do have another novella in mind that's been weighing there, and I think it's about time I get it and read it.

And sorry for those who were following, no Flash Fiction Friday again.  Hmmm, for those who enjoy these I don't know what to do.  If you want to look over my Flash Fiction Friday page and find a flash you would like me to continue with, maybe I could do that for you.  Just let me know in the comments. :)

My WANT List...I've added 7 books.  I also added another book to the Curious-about list.

These two purchases are for me and the kid.  He has to read books and test on them for school, so he agreed to read these.  I might have to read them at the same time as him and review together.  We'll see how time goes. :)
Outpost by Ann Aguirre
Goodreads Synopsis:
Deuce’s whole world has changed. Down below, she was considered an adult. Now, topside in a town called Salvation, she’s a brat in need of training in the eyes of the townsfolk. She doesn’t fit in with the other girls: Deuce only knows how to fight.

To make matters worse, her Hunter partner, Fade, keeps Deuce at a distance. Her feelings for Fade haven’t changed, but he seems not to want her around anymore. Confused and lonely, she starts looking for a way out.

Deuce signs up to serve in the summer patrols—those who make sure the planters can work the fields without danger. It should be routine, but things have been changing on the surface, just as they did below ground. The Freaks have grown smarter. They’re watching. Waiting. Planning. The monsters don’t intend to let Salvation survive, and it may take a girl like Deuce to turn back the tide.

Partials by Dan Wells
Goodreads Synopsis:
The human race is all but extinct after a war with Partials--engineered organic beings identical to humans--has decimated the population. Reduced to only tens of thousands by RM, a weaponized virus to which only a fraction of humanity is immune, the survivors in North America have huddled together on Long Island while the Partials have mysteriously retreated. The threat of the Partials is still imminent, but, worse, no baby has been born immune to RM in more than a decade. Our time is running out.

Kira, a sixteen-year-old medic-in-training, is on the front lines of this battle, seeing RM ravage the community while mandatory pregnancy laws have pushed what's left of humanity to the brink of civil war, and she's not content to stand by and watch. But as she makes a desperate decision to save the last of her race, she will find that the survival of humans and Partials alike rests in her attempts to uncover the connections between them--connections that humanity has forgotten, or perhaps never even knew were there.

Dan Wells, acclaimed author of "I Am Not a Serial Killer," takes readers on a pulsepounding journey into a world where the very concept of what it means to be human is in question--one where our humanity is both our greatest liability and our only hope for survival.
