Monday's Beginnings (62)

How are you faring in reading at the beginning of this week?  Are you starting a new book or finishing one up?

I think I'm going to have a great week, or at least I am hoping too.  I got some reading snuck in today, but plan on getting more done tonight.  My son is done with football now.  Oh, they lost their championship game.  But they worked there hardest and played their little hearts out.  The other team only got one touchdown and never got back to the end zone.  Great Job Guys!  And no I'm not hoarse, I'm a pro at yelling. ;)  But, we do need to focus on his school work a little bit more.  So I will have to sit down with him more and go over his school work with him and teach him the proper study techniques now that he's in Middle School.  We know he's going to need them for the rest of his schooling years.

Now to my books... I had a few reviews that needed to get posted and I have started to get those up.  They are:
Red-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells (click title to go to it)
Double Cross by Carolyn Crane (click title to go to it)

I am still working on In Dreams begin by Skyler White, which should be up later tonight.

And I have a giveaway to get posted too (Signed copy of The Warded Man by Peter V. Brett).  I did a video of the book and dippy me, it came out sideways.  So I will have to do it again.  I know it doesn't take long to do, but for some reason it takes me a while as I do dumb things.

Okay, so what am I reading this week?  Well, I started Tyger Tyger by Kersten Hamilton.  Then for the Blog Book Chat we are reading Hell Fire by Ann Aguirre.  If you are curious about the chat schedule, CLICK HERE.  And the first discussion is up HERE.  We will be chatting on the second section Thursday.  Don't forget to join us.

My WANT List... I've added 9 books to the list this past week.  It is starting to creep up on me again. Oh, boy I really have to take speed reading classes.

Books Received Last Week:

For Review:
This author had his debut of this book at the NYCC.  But I missed him.  I didn't make it to the area of the convention he was at.  But Thanks to following NYCC on Twitter Russ found me.  Russ was kind enough to send me a copy to review.  This book sounds like a great humorous trip.  Can't wait to get to it in the review stack.

Back cover Synopsis:
On a backpacking trip through Europe, Jason Medley and Theo Barnes stumble through hash bars and hangovers; religious zealots and stalkers; food poisoning and thunderstorms; cute girls; overnight trains; fever-pitch hallucinations - and the spectre of adult responsibility!

But when a jar containing the Universe's DNA falls from Eternity, these new friends find their loyalties put to the test...unaware that a motley crew from another realm is chasing them across the globe, with the fate of the Milky Way hanging in the balance.

Traversing Europs, New Zealand and the backbone of Eternity, Finders Keepers is a buddy story that not only tackles friendship, sex, commitment and desire, but also God reincarnation - and what really happened to the dinosaurs!

Purchased:
I read the first book in this series and just had to get the second for discussions at Barnes & Nobles Forums:

Synopsis From Goodreads:
In the city of Shadow, beneath the World Tree, alleyways shimmer with magic and godlings live hidden among mortalkind. Oree Shoth, a blind artist, takes in a strange homeless man on an impulse. This act of kindness engulfs Oree in a nightmarish conspiracy. Someone, somehow, is murdering godlings, leaving their desecrated bodies all over the city. And Oree's guest is at the heart of it. . .

I purchased this book as I will be doing a book tour for the second book next year.  I remember hearing about this one when it came out and thought it sounded great.  So I'm looking forward to it.

Synopsis From Goodreads:
Between desire and love there are some things that can’t stay buried, even in the deep of the ocean.

As a woman with a secret, lighthouse keeper Tessa Lonike savors her solitude on the island of Little Mer, off the coast of Maine. During a violent storm, Tessa spots a man thrashing in the ice cold waters and dives in to save him, using her ability as a mermaid to easily pull him to shore.

When Kenneth Randall awakens on the beach he is alone, left with the haunting memory of his beautiful, flame-haired savior. But a year later, when Kenneth meets her again, he’s determined not to let Tessa slip away. Just as the desire between them begins to burn, Tessa’s archaeologist ex-lover comes back to town with a tantalizing clue to her murky heritage.

The trio travel to the Mediterranean in search of answers, and when Tessa inadvertently opens an underwater portal they find a lost mermaid city. But in the deep, not everything is as it seems, and Tessa must decide if she wants to take her place as the royal heir, or follow the call of her heart…

So, how are you faring this week?  Does it look like a good reading week?

Here's to you having a great week in words and pages.

  2. Oo I've heard Tyger Tyger is awesome! I love that it's about goblins - there aren't many of those around nowadays (at least, as far as I know). I can't wait to try that one! If only I had a magic TBR-pile-shrinker-wand. Sigh. I can't wait to see how you like it!

Casey - Hi! So far really great on Tyger Tyger. It is a great YA read. I'm even thinking of getting a hard copy at the store so my son can read it. :) Oh I hear you on the magic TBR-pile-shrinker-wand. :) Thanks for stopping by!
