Monday Beginnings (31)

So, here we are again... another Monday...

How are you faring in reading at the beginning of this week?  Are you starting a new book for the week or finishing one up?

I seem to keep bouncing around in my books.  I am reading Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie for a book discussion with friends of mine (which we are discussing over at Barnes and Nobles forum).  I have started Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between by J.A. Saare.  Then the book I am also carrying with me, but seem to have put on the back burner as I am really getting into Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between is Strange Brew - an anthology.  I am hoping to get lots of reading in, once again.  I try hard but sometimes don't make my mark.

I got some reading done today, but not as much as I wanted to.  I am planning on getting another hour in this evening before bed.  I think I am going to have to get through Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between as it has caught my attention here in reading.  I am on page 123 out of 238, so I am hoping to work hard to get done within the next few days.

As for my Wishing List... It is growing as usual. I have added two new fantasy books to the list.  The wonderful authors out there in the world should be very proud of all you bloggers as I just keep adding to the list.  And even though I am adding to the list I have a small addiction... buying the books.  I have a stack of books here twenty-seven books deep to get to, and I keep adding to the stack.  I just have a small problem as I have to buy books.

The book I purchased this week is:

Shadow Prowler By Alexey Perov:
(Synopsis provided by Goodreads)
An army is gathering; thousands of giants, ogres, and other creatures are joining forces from all across the Desolate Lands, united, for the first time in history, under one, black banner. By the spring, or perhaps sooner, the Nameless One and his forces will be at the walls of the great city of Avendoom.

Unless Shadow Harold, master thief, can find some way to stop them.

Epic fantasy at its best, Shadow Prowler is the first in a trilogy that follows Shadow Harold, the legendary thief of Siala, on his quest for a magic Horn that will restore peace to the Kingdom of Siala. Harold will be accompanied on his quest by an elfin princess, Miralissa, her elfin escort and ten Wild Hearts, the most experienced and dangerous fighters in their world...and by the king's court jester (who may be more than he seems...or less.)
So, now to you... How are you faring this week so far?  Does it look like a good reading week of you?  Here is to hoping you have a great week in words and pages.

  1. I just finished a book, and have to catch up on a few reviews. Not sure what I'll pick up, as nothing seems to be calling my name right now...hate when that happens.

Know what you mean about the ever-expanding wish list, as mine keeps getting bigger and bigger with every blog I visit! *L*

BTW, I love your new layout! I've been using my reader lately, so not sure when you updated it, but it looks great!

  2. Hi Alexa! I hope you find a book calling to you. :) I seem to have to many calling to me at the moment and I just cant read them all. Thank you, glad you like the new layout. I just changed here on Thursday, so it hasn't been up long.

  3. Well so far this week is going slow. I'm reading a book that's just not working out for me and I think I'm going to send it back to the author. I'm sure it's more of a personal preference, the characters are just not grabbing me. I don't like to write negative reviews, being a firm believer that what might not work for me will work great for someone else. I'm not totally decided, I keep chugging along at the book hoping something changes lol.

  8. Zia - Sorry to hear the book doesn't seem to be working out well for you. I have to agree with you on the positive/negative review issue. I really don't like to do a negative review, like you said what I may not connect with or care for others may love. I don't want to discourage someone who may love the book from reading it. But I also keep that in mind when I read a negative review. I may like it anyway. :)

Chasity - I am really loving JA Saare's book right now. I have 87 pages left to read and I was ready to stay up all night to read it. lol. But I had to come to work today, so I went to bed.

Chasity - Strange Brew does have some amazing authors in it, I think thats part what pulled me to it. I wanted a taste of Patricia Briggs and I enjoyed reading Caitlin Kittredge, so I got the book. :) I finished the first story, which is by Patricia Briggs. I really loved it! It was of a witch Moira Keller, and a werewolf Tom. I don't know if they are from her Mercy series, I'm thinking not - but not sure.

  9. WonderBunny - I am really enjoying JA Saare's book. I am getting nice little surprises as I go. I have about 87 pages left to read. If it was the weekend, I would have stayed up all night to finish the book. I am really getting into it.

  11. Shadow Prowler sounds like a truly wonderful read - Amazon here I come. Not a very good start to my reading week I'm afraid, I'm really struggling with the novel 'The Long Song' by Andrea Levy. Happy reading.

  12. Only 27 deep? I bet I beat you. ;) My problem is that I also won a few and I get a lot from paperback swap. Love my problem! :)

  13. Petty Witter - Hi! Shadow Prowler sounded great to me too. I can't wait to get to it in the stack. :) I hope The Love Song picks up for you. Have a great week!

Melissa - I'm glad to hear others have more books. lol. I start to get nervous and anxious when I have to many books sitting here. I am addicted to my problem, and love it too. :)

  14. Shadow Prowler looks interesting! You have some good books going. I was devastated tonight and realized that I left the book I have been reading in my office up town. GAH! Oh well.. just started another one ;)

  15. How's Dead, Undead going? This book actually sounded like one I might enjoy and I've been thinking of getting it. I've also been hearing great things about Shadow Prowler, and I look forward to hearing you're thoughts on it. I don't seem to be making much progress on any of the many books I am currently reading. I can't even remember what the last book I finished was. Sigh. But I just picked up a second hand copy of Percy Jackson, which I heard was supposed to be really good, so I'm hoping that book will really grab me.
Hope you are having a great reading week!

  16. Sheila - It may be a little while till I get to Shadow Prowler, but I am looking forward to it. I couldn't pass it up when I had the 40% off coupon and it was hardback. :)

Simcha - Dead, Undead is going really good. I have really enjoyed it. I had to stop at bed time and didn't want to. If it was the weekend I would have stayed up till I was done. I just got done with it so the review will be up in a day or two. I have heard great things on Shadow Prowler too, it may be a little while till I get to it though with all the books on the shelf. I hope you enjoy Percy Jackson. I have heard the first one is a little slow at the start but is really good when it gets going. We have the first one here, my son is trying to read it (he reads but not as much as I do). Hope you are having a great week, and find that awesome book. :)

  18. Tyson - Shadow Prowler was another one I just couldn't pass up. Then when I got the 40% off coupon and it being hardcover, I just had to get it. So, it's in the stack. I'm just now sure how soon I'll be able to get there. Hope you enjoy it as well.
