Sunday Post #188

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm late getting this post up today, but it's up. I've been keeping my hours full of all sorts of things.
We have finished January. One month into 2018. And what I have done? Well... it feels like not to much. I've been taking free classes on how to use Photoshop. I've learned a great deal and wish I could afford to pay to take the rest of the module. And if I could, I could take their photography classes too. But, as great the price is, I can't justify it in my tight budget. I've been taking more photos, but that's in thanks to a dear friends daughter having her baby. I even got to take some amazing photos of the new born a week old. She's adorable! As for words... Ugh. I've not had a chance to get to those.
The house has been the sick house, so this is slowing me down as well. I had a sinus infection and finally got over it. Husband has been sick about two months now, and it's gotten worse this last week. Kiddo's even got a severe sinus infection now too. I'm ready to move out for a week. Any takers for a guest? LOL! Nah, I'm here helping them get through.
Good Samaritan: Unto Dust #1 by Mike Luoma
Synopsis:
Boston, Massachusetts - 1965: Father Bill Sullivan is a Roman Catholic priest with a secret – he wields awesome energies that he believes are given him by God. The "Power of the Holy Spirit" manifests around him as nebulous tentacles of purple and gold energy and smoke. It allows "Good Samaritan" – as he calls himself – to hover, grab criminals and restrain them, subject thugs to the experience of their own crimes in his "Confessional", and occasionally render ultimate judgment by turning perps into dust as he proclaims, "Remember Man that thou art DUST and unto dust thou shall return!"A new menace is tangling with Good Samaritan, a creature preying on children, a molester with delusions of being a vampire. And "normal" life is presenting its own problems, as Ernesto Cabral, the new Cardinal of the Archdiocese, apparently has it in for Father Sullivan! He hassles Sullivan after Father Bill helps a young, unwed mother-to-be. The Cardinal might ruin his career... but the creature could take his life!
The Galathea Chronicles: Books 1-3 by J.J. Green
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
The first three books of JJ Green’s Shadows of the Void space opera serial, in one discounted bundle.
Generation (Shadows of the Void 1)
Humankind entered the age of deep space travel two decades ago, and Earth’s megacorps rushed to exploit the rich resources to be found on unclaimed planets. Prospecting starships roam the galaxy, racing to be the first to lay their hands on the new-found source of wealth.
But unknown horrors lie at the reaches of the great expanse, ready to be awakened by unsuspecting starship crews.
Chief Security Officer Jas Harrington’s job is to protect her shipmates from hostile aliens on new worlds. For the efficient if quick-tempered Jas, that hasn’t been too hard up till now. But her captain is drug-addled, and he’s hungry for the bonuses he gets from finding valuable resources.
When the captain won’t listen to Jas’ fears about a mysterious planet, he is compromised by contact with a strange life form—a life form that threatens to take over the entire ship and return to Earth, where it can spread its deadly infection.
Now Jas is in a race against time, struggling to quarantine the alien infection and prevent the aliens from achieving their goal: Generation. She doesn't realize it yet, but as she fights to save her crew, the future of all humanity hangs in the balance.
Stranded (Shadows of the Void 2)
The starship Galathea has crash-landed on a planet inhabited by deadly aliens, but Polestar, the megacorp that owns the ship, isn’t in a hurry to rescue the crew. Some of the officers were infected by the hostile life forms, and the company may not want to take responsibility or waste money on a lost cause.
Unknown to Polestar, many of the possessed officers died in the crash. But Jas Harrington isn’t convinced that they were all killed. She thinks that infected personnel remain aboard ship, impossible to detect, and hoping to hitch a ride to a populated planet.
Now the ship’s life support systems aren’t working, the one remaining engineer doesn’t know how to fix the engines, and the crew is threatening to mutiny.
Can Jas combat the dangers outside and within the ship? Can she can get the Galathea off the planet? And if she does, how can she be sure she isn’t spreading the deadly aliens to the rest of the galaxy?
Dawn (Shadows of the Void 3)
Under orders from Earth’s Global Government, the crew of the Galathea set out for the colony world of Dawn, where the hostile aliens that infested their ship can be rooted out.
Jas Harrington learns the aliens are called Shadows, and that there has been a conspiracy of silence surrounding the threat they pose to the galaxy. She also finds that there’s more to Dawn than meets the eye.
On the new world, she discovers the horrible truth of what the Shadows do to victims caught in their traps.
She discovers what Dawn’s inhabitants are hiding.
She discovers that the planet’s security has been penetrated.
As the Shadows draw near, Jas battles desperately to free the people of Dawn from their dark secrets. If she doesn’t succeed, no one can survive.
Lost Lore: A Fantasy Anthology
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
With an introduction by Mark Lawrence, author of Prince of Thorns and Red Sister.
Hidden pasts. Secrets untold. Legends half-remembered. Fifteen fantasy writers gather to bring fifteen tales to life, each one a unique glimpse into a wholly original world.
On the Emerald Road, a dead Sage triggers a brutal trial beneath the forest floor. There, a young man must fight--and kill--both friends and enemies to become the next wielder of the fabled Emerald Blade.
In Midgard, a priestess of humble birth forges a strange bond with an ancient being as she searches for justice in a land that often rewards cruelty, betrayal, and bloodshed.
And in the Yarnsworld, the Magpie King teaches two brothers a dangerous lesson about the power of stories. Sticks and stones may indeed break bones...but they cannot hurt the Bramble Man.
In worlds ravaged by flood, fire, and frost, mere mortals strive to make their own legends amidst demons and deities a like. And in lands racked with human strife--where evil endures and no one is ever safe--scarred heroes fight forces even darker than their own personal demons.
Why do they fight?
Some seek to better the world, or themselves. Others are out to right old wrongs. But whatever their goal--reward, redemption, or just respite--the truth will out eventually. For no story is ever truly lost so long as there exists one to tell it.
Storm Dragon by Frances Pauli
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
Karin knows she’s gone completely insane—nuts—absolutely batshit crazy, when she spots an insidious blue dragon twining through the trees at a rest stop in the Cascade Mountains. Despite agreeing to join her roommate at a psychic fair, she’s never believed in anything metaphysical. She’s pretty sure the Reiki treatment she succumbed to has brought on a frighteningly realistic hallucination—until they roll their mini-van in the middle of I-90, and she is rescued from the vehicle by the same monstrous blue figment of her imagination.
She awakens to find that she’s been delivered to a cabin high in the mountains instead of to a proper hospital. The “doctor” looking out for her is more of a new-ager than a physician, and the people who own the house, including the urban highlander version of Fabio, don’t have any intention of letting her leave.
Faced with the unimaginable, and strapped to an all-too-real dragon, Karin must decide how to tame the beast or risk losing herself to it forever.
Archangel's Kiss by Anna Santos
Goodreads Synopsis:
Gargoyles, Angels, and Vampires. Deadly enemies. An Angel Prince looking for his fated mate to break his curse. A Vampire King with a heart of stone.
Only true love can break the prince’s curse and stop him from turning into stone for all eternity. Despite the overwhelming chemistry between Aria and the prince, they only have thirty days to fall in love before their bond is put to the test.
Peril strikes in the form of an addictive drug that can kill vampires and angels are to blame. Conflict is blooming and the peace treaty between the Angel Prince and the Vampire King is threatened.
Aria is caught in a love triangle when the Vampire King discovers that the girl he had refused to take as his is now the prince’s new mate. Tormented by the rash decision that almost killed her, the king now believes that he’s saving Aria from the clutches of the manipulative prince.
Finding out that supernatural creatures exist becomes less terrifying for Aria than discovering what she’s destined to become if she lets her Archangel’s abilities take over and change her.
Aria is much more than the average, eighteen-year-old girl who wanted to find the cure for cancer. She’s now a deadly Archangel warrior and the future queen of the angels and gargoyles if only she can manage to break her lover’s curse and keep the Vampire King at bay.
