Flash Fiction Friday (25)

Dottie over at Tink's Place have come up with the idea for a Monday Morning Flash Fiction challenge. Each Monday a new picture prompt will be posted and if you choose to participate you post your story on Friday - 350 words, give or take.

I have to thank Blodeuedd at Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell for introducing me to this fun meme. I don't know if I'll be able to keep up with every week, but I'll give it a try from time to time.

The Image This Week:
I forgot to mention earlier, this is a continuation from last week.

As I looked around the dark, silent street to get my bearings after such a nightmare I started to hear shuffling of feet.  Several feet.  My heart just slowing to a quick patter was now instantly sent into overdrive again.  Just before panic slipped in something in my brain clicked and my hand flew to my chest.

Between my breasts lay my Grandmothers amulet.  Shit.  What have I done?  Trying to remember what I did today, or yesterday, I sat down after an exhausting day of chasing down leads on my grandmother and fighting off a few hell demons.  Oh no, I must have dozed off.  That witch I asked to look at the amulet told me, "Beware what you dream for."  Well, who the hell thinks dream would actually mean dreaming?  I had thought dream was meant as in wishing.  Like the genies lamp where you rub it and get three wishes.  This amulet really is a dream amulet.

Now what was I to do?  I was in my dream.  Or somewhere I've created from my dream.  Oh no.  My head snapped up from looking at the amulet in my hand to looking down the street.  I knew what was coming, if my nightmare had anything to do with it.  And now that I was thinking of them, I'm sure that was what I was going to see.

For that instant I thought of my grandma.  Oh grandma, where are you? I could use your help.  Before I knew it fog quickly rolled around me making it hard to see the buildings.  My feet started to get damp like they where sitting in water.  The fog started to disperse and I could see I was in a little wooded boat, a row boat.  As the fog pulled away from me I saw I'm sitting on a calm lake.  Not a ripple in the water.

I turned to look around as the fog thinned, seeing the huge lake house we use to visit as children with my grandma.  This is where we came when she needed calmness and tranquility of nature to relax and recoup.  Now I knew she needed to get away from the draining magic around home and the city.

This must have been an unconscious thought in the back of my mind when I thought of Grandma, taking me to that mellow place.  No relaxing for me, I need to get to shore and figure out how to get home, before those creatures my brother and I imagined to be in this lake appeared.  Oh no.  The boat started to rock with large ripples now generated in the once calm lake.

I grabbed the oars and started rowing to shore to escape the water monsters as the fog rolled in again.
