Audio Book Review: Enemy of Magic

Enemy of Magic

By:  Linsey Hall

Publish Date:  August 21, 2017, Audiobook Release October 13, 2017

Format:  Audiobook - 6 hrs 20 mins
Narrated By:  Laurel Schroeder

Genre:  Urban Fantasy

Series:  4th in The Dragon's Gift: The Protector series; 1st Book ~ Fugitive of Magic, 2nd Book ~ Trial by Magic, 3rd Book ~ Origin of Magic

Impression:  FireSouls, Dragons, the deifiur...all are something more and connected and it starts to come out in Nix's story.

Synopsis:
There’s a monster on the loose, and only I can stop him.

My enemy Drakon is on the hunt for dragons, and I’m on the hunt for him. Problem is, he’s a step ahead of me every time. Worse, I’m a pawn in chess game only he understands.

When Drakon puts my hometown under a horrifying freezing spell, I get the first terrifying clue to his plan. My family is trapped, slowly wasting away. I must break the spell before it’s too late, but the task might kill me.

Though I’ve got my friends at my back, I’m the only one who can stop Drakon. And I'm not sure my magic is strong enough to do the job.

Enemy of Magic is a fast-paced fantasy mystery with a kick-butt heroine, a tough hero, and magic that will blow your socks off.

My Thoughts and Summary:
*I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Laurel continues to voice Nix and the crew with talent. As the series goes, we get the feel of tough spots and out of breath moments the characters experience from Laurel as she voices them. I love when we get these with narrations as it feels true to the story and moment we are in.

This book is the next steps in Nix's journey to stop Drakon.

Okay. Wow. We learn a lot here! I love it! We learn about dragons and their history. Then about FireSouls. And, this leads to our ladies and their connection to things. Nix's journey feels like it's one of the most important, maybe because of who she is or maybe because she's the last of the three to come into her powers. But this is the series that feels to highlight all three of the ladies along with what they are.

We get to see Del and Cass at Nix's side as she fights the evil that's after them all. I enjoy seeing the girls together. We've gotten Cass and Del's stories as they came into their places, they help Nix as she comes to her fate.

There is connection to the FireSoul friends they have along with Nix's home realm. This book feels so well written with pulling all the ends together along with Nix learning about herself and growing in power and confidence.

Ares. Good gravy. Each girl has meet and coupled up with dream worthy men, Ares is no different. I love how the men give the woman the space they need until the lady is ready to go to the next step. None of the men want to take advantage of the ladies, but all know the men are interested. Ares does the same with Nix. And when Nix is ready, they take their relationship to the next level. It's not written out in detail, but you know what happens.

Audio Book Review: Origin of Magic

Origin of Magic

By:  Linsey Hall

Publish Date:  July 26, 2017, Audiobook Release September 1, 2017

Format:  Audiobook - 6 hrs 28 mins
Narrated By:  Laurel Schroeder

Genre:  Urban Fantasy

Series:  2nd in The Dragon's Gift: The Protector series; 1st Book ~ Fugitive of Magic, 2nd Book ~ Trial by Magic

Impression:  The Triumphant, dragons, and her life are connected.

Synopsis:
I thought I knew the world of magic. I knew nothing.

By the skin of my teeth, I passed the Vampire Court trials. I’m officially an ally, with the seductive vampire Ares on my side. Everything should be good, except that there’s a magical mob boss on the hunt for dragons. Problem is: dragons are supposed to be dead. So what does he know that I don’t?

It’s a race against the clock to save the dragons. But things get dangerous when the mob boss starts hunting me. What was a straightforward mission becomes a tangled web of intrigue and danger. I can only get out alive if I embrace my strange new magic--along with the help of Ares and my friends.

Origin of Magic is a fast-paced urban fantasy thriller with a kick-butt heroine, a tough hero, and magic that will blow your socks off.

First Sentence:
The streets of Magic's Bend were eerily quiet as I turned toward Darklane, the part of town where the black magic practitioners lived.

My Thoughts and Summary:
*I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Laurel continues to share how talented she is and how she can bring new feeling to new characters in the book. Laurel has done a great job at voicing accents and personalities for the characters. We even cross a few ghosts and the feel of the creepy described is in Laurel's voice. Great addition to the world.

I got into listening to Nix's story and forgot to type up notes about it. That's a great thing!!

Nix learns about her parents and where her magic comes from. Her magic is tied to her fate and what she's destined to do in the Triumphant. The history passed down through her mothers family. I love where Nix's magic came from. It makes sense and feels true to her.

The connection to Nix's past and her current situation with the Mob Boss is connected in a way with the vase she has. Nix continues on to find what she needs to ultimately find the Mob Boss (who gets a real name) and defeat his evil.

Nix doesn't have the strong fighting powers Cass and Del have, but her powers are growing insanely stronger each day. Plus, Nix jumps into danger ready to conjure what she needs to defeat the evil she faces. Nix feels to be braver than the others because of her power being what it is. She can use it to fight, but it's not like throwing fireballs. Nix conjures what she needs along with destroying what she can, but doing this drains her powers so she has to be careful. But the new power growing in her is something interesting. It's life. No, she's not pregnant. It's her connection to plants that grows stronger.

Nix's story is about her, but I get a sense it's more too. Nix learns about herself, past and powers, but she's also learning what's in store for her deifiur. This makes the story feel deeper for me. I love that there feels to be two fold in the story line.

I am enjoying how Linsey's writing in this world has grown. I don't feel as though she has to give me a complete recap of the previous stories in the beginning of the book. And how she's showing the character through her actions and reactions. I'm really enjoying the writing here.

In this book we start to see a spark of dragon connection. I feel as though we are leading to more with the three girls as well. They are all key in something more, which we know of but we get the feel as we are getting closer to that 'something', what they are fated to do. This makes me even more excited to continue with the last two books with Nix!

Sunday Post #110

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's to a new week.
I've found I start the week off great, then it all falls apart as the week goes. I have to come up with a plan to finish the week strong. I've picked up a hard copy calendar to help me with my time management. I'm determined to get it all under control this year. I've jumped back in and scheduled a bunch of reviews, which were mostly done just needed touched up. So, I'll give it another go this week.
Something that irritated me this week -- We are looking to get a new server at work. One of the computer tech guys that came told us that Word/Excel is going to not be free in the future. That the company is working toward us purchasing it with a monthly charge. My brain got stuck on this. It burned me on the inside. So now we have to pay for having documents. I remember when internet was free. Yes, it was slow on the dial up, but it was free. Now it's getting more and more expensive with the tv and phone. Gah. Sorry. I didn't mean to go there.
So, tell me, what awesome did you do, see, come across this past week?
The Fit Booker:
Goal:  Workout in any form of exercise (or on Wii Fit) 2x's a week. (to feel better and hope to drop a few pants sizes)
Fugitive of Magic by Linsey Hall
"I do enjoy the gradual attraction between the characters in the stories. They are a slow growth so the characters get to know each other and grow a trust. And they get to decide if they like each other or not. These are important things in a relationship."
Trial by Magic by Linsey Hall
"The trials. Aaah. These are hard for Ares to watch and a struggle for Nix to see Ares stand off to the side like he doesn't care. But he has to. And Nix shines in her true personality that we already know about her. Nix is a formidable fighter and friend. Nix is loyal to a fault. She meets a few goddesses along the way as well, one becomes like a friend too. The goddesses in the Vampire Realm have interesting information to share about Nix, but it's still not as detailed as wanted. But it gives us hints as to what could be coming for Nix and others."
Survivors live in underground shelters waiting generations for the environment to become safe enough to emerge. Above ground, the radiation and poison has mutated the few humans that are left, but they do their best to survive for the 20 to 22 years they might live before the toxic planet or disease kills them. 16-year-old Isabella has grown up believing mutants are sub-human, stupid and would eat every shelter person if they had the chance, until she spies a wandering mutant tribe through the glass bottom swimming pool that is her shelter’s only light source. Isabella is fascinated by them, but it’s their 17-year-old leader, Malcolm, who truly captivates her – ebony skin, straw-colored hair, rippling muscles, four fingers on one hand and six on the other. Night after night she sneaks out of her shelter to watch the tribe, dressed in her grandfather’s chemical/radiation suit. When Malcolm discovers her, they are wary of each other at first but eventually become friends and then lovers. Isabella finally leaves the safety of her shelter to follow Malcolm into the perilous Outside. Isabella knows the government plans to exterminate the mutants once it is safe for the shelter-folk to come Outside, and she expects radiation and disease, but no one in the tribe is prepared for cannibals! Isabella’s family mourns for their lost daughter, knowing that she will die Outside, but Grandfather refuses to search for her. Even if they found her, he knows that she will not return without the mutants, and he will not allow them into the shelter. But everything changes when her brother, Luke, learns of Colonel Ericssen’s deadly plan for the mutants. Luke defies their grandfather and leaves the shelter to track down Isabella and warn her of the threat she knows nothing about. But he is no more prepared for the dangers Outside than she is. Hunted and finally captured by the military, Luke must escape their grasp, find Isabella, and save her life. Battling the cannibal Eaters, taking on orphan children and trying to convince mutant tribes about the dangers they must prepare for makes Isabella question her decision to leave her shelter. She dreamed of making a difference in the lives of those Outside, but now she isn’t certain has the courage and strength do it.
Genre:  Urban Fantasy
Impression:  Showing her strength and loyalty
Synopsis:
My secret is out.
You know that saying, to hell in a hand basket? That’s where my life is headed. Three days ago, the Vampire Court learned about my forbidden FireSoul magic. It’s basically a death sentence. Except they’ve made me a deal. I have to pass a series of trials, designed to test my magic and my loyalty. If I survive, I become an ally of the Court, which would be awesome.
Problem is, the trials are as deadly as a hungry hellhound and I can’t trust my partner, the sexy hybrid-vampire Ares. Worse, there’s a new magic inside me that’s eating me alive. It won’t stop until I learn to control it, but that’s a tall order given everything else that’s on my plate. Between the trials and a recent theft at my shop, Ancient Magic, I’m up to my ears in magical problems.
Trial by Magic is a fast-paced fantasy mystery with a kick-butt heroine, a tough hero, and magic that will blow your socks off.
My Thoughts and Summary:
*I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Laurel returns to bring Nix and our crew to life for us. When the characters sound short of breath, so does Laurel. I enjoy these little actions added to narrators, it makes the book feel alive in audio. I enjoy the way Laurel bring the characters to life by sounding as they are actually living through the events written.
All of the deirfiur have to go through trials of their own, to learn their abilities and grow into their part for the ultimate end goal. Nix has her journey here. Nix learns more about herself and her powers. She even learns of something she didn't know she had. But Nix also gains a strong ally group and a close friend.
I like Nix because she's not all power. Nix thinks she's not powerful in magic with the ability she has, conjuring. But Nix is stronger in other ways. Nix has a hidden power she didn't realize she had, which is very neat. I like this magic, and it fits her and her life. Nix is quick to learn and control her new magics. She doesn't like the one power she absorbed in the previous book, but it's the opposite yet the same as what she possesses and is needed for her rule in what's to come for the trio of ladies.
The trials. Aaah. These are hard for Ares to watch and a struggle for Nix to see Ares stand off to the side like he doesn't care. But he has to. And Nix shines in her true personality that we already know about her. Nix is a formidable fighter and friend. Nix is loyal to a fault. She meets a few goddesses along the way as well, one becomes like a friend too. The goddesses in the Vampire Realm have interesting information to share about Nix, but it's still not as detailed as wanted. But it gives us hints as to what could be coming for Nix and others.
Ares. *sigh* He's a great match for Nix. He's strong and a mix of human and vampire. This is something that makes for a very powerful being in this world, as we've seen previously. Ares is patient with Nix, letting her get through the trials on her own and getting to know him. Nix knows this, and deals with the most important on the list. But she is attracted to Ares, as he is to her.
I very much enjoyed listening to this book. Nix's trials were new in this world and exciting as she fought through. I enjoyed the relationship building as well. It's something that grows with the characters as they establish a trust between them. This is well done through their actions and the story.
We see the Master in the battle at the end of the book. He's a new character and one I'm looking forward to learning more about.
I'm totally on to the next story!
Audio Book Review: Fugitive of Magic
Fugitive of Magic
By:  Linsey Hall
Publish Date:  June 18, 2017, Audiobook Release June 13, 2017
Format:  Audiobook - 6 hrs 40 mins
Narrated By:  Laurel Schroeder
Genre:  Urban Fantasy
Series:  1st in The Dragon's Gift: The Protector series
Impression:  She tried to help and got framed.
Synopsis:
In the city of Magic's Bend, I protect what's mine. No matter what.
To the world, I'm a just a Conjurer. To my closest friends, I'm a FireSoul--a dangerous Magica with forbidden powers and a dragon's soul. The downside? If anyone discovers what I am, I'm dead. So I lay low, kicking butt with my weapons, not my magic.
Things get ugly when I witness the murder of a powerful vampire ally and become the key suspect. Soon, I'm hunted by the sexiest, strongest supernatural I've ever met. Ares is an unheard of vampire hybrid, and it's hard to say if he wants to kiss me or kill me.
I've got three days to catch the real killer. The bad news? It will take my forbidden magic to succeed. But can I control it, much less keep my secret with Ares watching my every move? Especially when the stakes get ever higher?
I'm used to protecting others...now I have to protect myself.
Fugitive of Magic is a fast-paced fantasy mystery with a kick-butt heroine, a tough hero, and magic that will blow your socks off.
First Sentence:
It was business as usual until about five o'clock.
Purchase At:
Amazon  /  Barnes & Nobles
Audible
My Thoughts and Summary:
*I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I enjoy listening to Laurel voice the accents of the men. She gives a deeper tone to differentiate the males from females and gives the accent they are described as having. Always lovely. This balances with the three girls seem to sound similar, though other females in the world have different sounds to their voices based on personalities and some tone difference.
I do enjoy the gradual attraction between the characters in the stories. They are a slow growth so the characters get to know each other and grow a trust. And they get to decide if they like each other or not. These are important things in a relationship.
Nix witnesses a murder. A murder she's framed for. With the strong personality Nix has, she's determined to clear her name AND find the real killer. Nix learns more than she planned while on this case, and also finds a new ally, potential friend, in Ares.
Each sister has their own special field of experience and a connection with others in the world. Cass with the shifters, Del with the underworld. Now Nix has her growing connection with the Vampire Court. Not sure this is a good thing or bad thing yet, but it's what Nix has to work at. It's awesome to see Cass and Del fighting with Nix. They know Nix has valuable insight and powers to contribute. I love seeing all the powers together as they fight.
I think the time between books of the three woman has helped me. I enjoyed the story of Nix. Sure, we know what to expect with the story but it's relaxing and enjoyable as they find trouble and fight to get the answers to get out along with finding a great guy that takes a place at their side.
Something in Nix's predicament at the end of the book has me looking forward to the next books. I know Nix has some challenges ahead to prove herself to others, but there is an ultimate goal of finding someone that's going to be after her for what she knows. Also, I'm curious to see how what she's learned ties to her and Cass and Del. There is always connections with what we come across.
I'm still alive! Sunday Post #109
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's been...months. Wow. It has. I'm sorry about that. Things have taken off and haven't stopped for the holidays. I didn't even do NaNoWriMo this year! Crazy! I don't even know what to say I was doing. It just seemed each weekend was packed full of something.

Happy New Year! I don't have any real resolutions, per say. But I do plan on budgeting my time a little better so I can do all I love. I took lots of photos and went to different places. I saw great bands, did day drinking to help an animal shelter, and so much more! Yes, day drinking to help homeless pets. The best thing ever! The money to pay for the pass to join the witch brigade and bar hop for the day is what helps the pets. It's so much fun!

I saw the post at the Renaissance Festival page of the photo winners. Mine was not one of them. Bummer. But it's all good. I wanted to share my entries with you though!

We decorated for Christmas, which seems to take me forever anymore. The tree fell three times... Ugh. Yep, three times. The third time it involved the cat, the dog, and me. And a few ornaments were broken along with pulling down all the mantle items too. It would have been a great video, if someone was watching. lol.

So it's been eventful and full of time with family. I'm hoping you life has been full of love.

Solomon Key by David Wood

"I love that David doesn't worry about word count or length of book, but focuses on the story and what's needed to tell it. Totally awesome! We get full movement and information to keep moving forward through out the book. There are traps, fights, and mystery as we go through the adventure with Dane Maddock and Bones."

Beauty and Beastly by Melanie Karsak

"I really enjoy Melanie's steampunk twist to the fairy tales. She keeps key ingredients but transforms the story. Here we have the rose, the mirror, the garden, the offer for dinner, and Be Our Guest, don't go in this area, spot of missing painting, the library, the dance, and more. But she turns the events to work as a new tale with strong old tale influences. This keeps the story true to it's nature and easily recognizable for all."

Flaming Dove
by Daniel Arenson

"The world... There are an extreme few humans remaining and the world has suffered a great Armageddon. Now, Heaven and Hell fight for domain over Earth. When one of the sides win, Earth will be changed to their setting - Hell fire or Angel light. Which side will Laila fight to help?"

Straight Outta Fangton by C.T. Phipps

"This book has created the world and characters with some fun twists to the world. I'm set to return for future books with the characters and have fun."

"Queen Maya! Wow, this story is quite an adventure. I enjoyed going along for the ride. I was lost in the action and how the story unfolds. I think this series is one to enjoy."
Aly, What is Life without Books

"Maya is easily a likable heroine. Abandoning her preference for obscurity due to her family tragedy clearly isn't an easy feat, but her sense of duty gives her the strength she needs to ascend the throne. Despite the theme of loss, heavy responsibility and the daunting journey of a young princess becoming a worthy ruler, everything is mostly straight forward, making a clean read for younger readers... It does the job and lays some important groundwork for the plot and the characters until the end of the novel. On the whole, it's a good read."
Lit Amri, Readers' Favorite on Book One in the Maya Series

As Rae struggles with new friends, a new school and a star-struck forbidden love, she must also face the ultimate challenge: receive a tattoo on her sixteenth birthday with specific powers that may bind her to an unspeakable darkness. It's up to Rae to undo the dark evil in her family's past and have a ray of hope for her future.

Book 2 - Dark Nebula
Nothing is as it seems anymore.
Leery from the horrifying incident at the end of her first year at Guilder Boarding School, Rae Kerrigan is determined to learn more about her new tattoo. Her expectations are high, an easy senior year and a happy reunion with Devon, the boy she’s not supposed to date. All hopes of happiness turn into shattered dreams the moment she steps back on campus.
Lies and secrets are everywhere, and a betrayal cuts Rae deeply. Among her conflicts and enemies, it appears as if her father is reaching out from beyond the grave to ruin her life. With no one to trust, Rae doesn’t know where or who to turn to for help.
Has her destiny been written? Or will she become the one thing she hates the most—her father’s prodigy.

Book 3 - House of Cards
Rae Kerrigan is three months away from graduating from Guilder Boarding school. She is now moonlighting as an operative for the Privy Council, a black ops division for British Intelligence. She’s given a mentor, Jennifer, who fights like a demon –fast, tough, and incredibly strong-willed. Rae finds a strange maternal bond with her. At the same time, she finds a new friend when Devon disappoints her once again.
Childhood memories surface and evoke hidden secrets she is determined to solve. When the Privy Council ask for her help, she finds a friend, and a link, to the Xavier Knights – another agency similar to the Privy Council. Through the mystery and secrets, she begins to question what the PC represents and where she stands.
Will she lose herself in the confusions of the past and present? What will it mean for her future?

Book 4 - Royal Tea
The Queen of England has requested the help of the Privy Council. Someone is trying to kill her son’s fiancé. The HRH Prince plans to marry a commoner, and his bride has a secret no one knows but the Privy Council. She has a tatù. When the Privy Council turns to Rae for help, she can’t possibly say no; not even when they make Devon her partner for this assignment. They are to pose as a couple and work undercover, as bodyguards, to protect the soon to be Princess of Wales.
Rae would rather be anywhere but with Devon, especially since she believes her mother to be alive, despite the Privy Council’s assurances to the contrary. The question is, how can Rae find proof of life for her mother, come to terms with her feelings for Devon, and manage to save the Princess, all while dressed for tea?
When the enigma, the secrets and the skeletons in the closet begin to be exposed, can Rae handle the truth?

Book 5 - Under Fire
Rae Kerrigan is determined to find her mother. No amount of convincing from Devon, or the Privy Council, is going to make her believe her mother is not alive, and Rae will stop at nothing to find her.
Torn between friendship and loyalty, Rae must also choose between Luke and Devon. She can’t continue to deny, or fool herself, any longer. The heart wants what the heart wants.

Book 6 - End in Sight

The Gladiator Queen: Complete Trilogy by Auryn Hadley
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
In this epic low fantasy trilogy, one pampered little princess will discover that coming of age means a lot more than simply growing up. Fighting against the temptation of forbidden love, striving to survive the horrors of combat, and determined to save her country, the delicate girl in the fancy pink dress will become more than anyone expected.

She is the Gladiator Queen.

When We Were Kings:

Tossed into the gladiator arena, everyone expected the delicate girl in the fancy pink dress to be the first to die. Leyli had other plans. Surviving was at the top of her list. Revenge was a close second.

In the cell beside her, the Lion of Lenlochlien was impressed. The first day, they all cried. But this one was different. Her tears didn't slow her down, they just made her stronger, and when he looked in her eyes, he saw it. Her desperation was feral. This girl might be cornered, but the bitch was the kind that would bite.

He had no idea that he was about to become her best weapon. Leyli didn't just want to live through the games, she wanted to protect her father's throne, but to do that, she had to become someone else. She couldn't be the Princess of Norihame. The Lion had to make her a Wolf.

Chained side by side, he'll show her how to be a killer. She'll give him a reason to keep fighting. Together, they'll learn that it takes a friend to survive.

When We Were Dancing:

Leyli never wanted power, but her cousin's scheming left no other option. He'd killed her brother, trying to claim the throne for himself, and sold her off to be a gladiator, hoping to get rid of her. It didn't work. Now, she'll do whatever it takes to make sure Palino can't destroy the country her family fought so hard to keep safe.

On the sands of the arena, death was honest. In the palace, everything is different. The threats are veiled in fancy clothes and whispered rumors. Spies lay in wait around every corner, bribed with promises of power and wealth. To win, she has to keep her cousin far from succession. The best way is an heir of her own. That means a noble husband who won't kill her in her sleep and -- hopefully -- one who will ignore the hulking shadow of her best friend turned bodyguard.

The game is King of the Hill. The music for their dance is made of politics. Fate gave her a chance to change everything, but he's a fickle god. Leyli has to get this right. She may not be on the sands of the arena, but she's still fighting, and the Wolf of Oberhame will not be defeated.

When We Were Crowned:

With the crown safely on Leyli's head, her problems should've been over. Her country is safe. Her family is together. What more could a new Queen ask for?

Unfortunately, spending her mornings purging her stomach isn't it. Evidently, not even the Queen of Norihame is immune to morning sickness. Even worse, women in her country were expected to produce the next generation, not rule it. As soon as the men in court realize she's pregnant with the heir, they'll try to take away all the power she fought so hard to gain.

If that was all she had to worry about, things would be great.

But Rhia is closing in. The expansionist nation to the west has been seeking a trade alliance in violation of her father's peace treaty. Is this merely a misunderstanding between politicians, or is it the first hint of things to come? And why is one of the Senators saying the exact same thing her cousin cited as his reason for rebellion?

When all the pieces come together, Leyli realizes it's worse than she feared.

A Steampunk Christmas Carol by Steven Hunt, Charles Dickens
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
So, dear reader, you thought Spiderman and Iron Man was the ultimate team-up? Or Captain America and the Hulk, perhaps? No!

Such paltry partnerships were long before authors Charles Dickens and Stephen Hunt teamed up together to bring the world the steampunk adaptation of A Christmas Carol. This tome imaginatively entitled 'A STEAMPUNK Christmas Carol ... the fantastical adaptation no-one asked for, yet everyone somehow desperately needed.

Yes, this - spoilers - classic tale of a grumpy miser's Xmas-related redemption has been recast in the Jackelian Kingdom, a far-future steampunk Earth where Great Britain has rejoined the European mainland through continental drift (Brexiteer trigger warning).

The original tale has surely been vastly improved by the addition of airships, steam-driven computers and a robot called Boffin.

Forget the Muppet version. Forget that TV one with Captain Picard as Scrooge. 'A Steampunk Christmas Carol' is surely the comical and light-hearted definitive version that will be remembered millions of years in the future, after humanity has risen and fallen countless times across the endless cycle of history.

And if it isn't?

Well, failing some great technological advancements in immortality treatments or cryogenic suspension, you, dear reader are not going to be around to know about it.

Or, are you...?

Now with extra cogs and a SHOCK!!! ending thrown in for no extra cost.

Goodreads Synopsis:
Four elite fae warriors. One mortal female. A magical bond they can't allow--or resist.

Orphaned and sold to a harsh master, Lera's life is about mucking stalls, avoiding her master's advances, and steering clear of the mystical forest separating the mortal and fae worlds. Only fools venture into the immortal realms, and only dark rumors come out... Until four powerful fae warriors appear at Lera's barn.

River, Coal, Tye, and Shade have waited a decade for their new fifth to be chosen, the wounds from their quint brother's loss still raw. But the magic has played a cruel trick, bonding the four immortal warriors to... a female. A mortal female.

Distractingly beautiful and dangerously frail, Lera can only be one thing--a mistake. Yet as the males bring Lera back to the fae lands to sever the bond, they discover that she holds more power over their souls than is safe for anyone... especially for Lera herself.
