Published By: Ace
Publish Date: August 28, 2012
Format: Paperback 337pgs, pocketbook size
Genre: Science Fiction
Series: 6th in Sirantha Jax series, 1st Book ~ Grimspace, 2nd Book ~ Wanderlust, 3rd Book ~ Doubleblind, 4th Book ~ Killbox, 5th Book ~ Aftermath
Recommendation: Follow Jax on her last mission, to uphold a promise given some time ago. To fight the last war she hopes to fight, and maybe make her way back to the stars calling to her.
Synopsis:
Regret nothing.
Sirantha Jax has the J-gene, which permits her to "jump" faster-than-light ships through grimspace. She loves nothing more than that rush, but the star roads have to wait...
Her final mission takes her to La'heng, a planet subjugated during first contact. Since then, the La'hengrin homeworld has been occupied by foreign conquerors.
All that's about to change.
Now, as part of a grassroots resistance, Jax means to liberate the La'hengrin. But political intrigue and guerrilla warfare are new to her, and this will be the most dangerous game she's ever played - spies and conspiracies, a war of weapons and hearts, and not everyone is guaranteed to make it out alive...

My Thoughts and Summary:
Jax is running into all kinds of snags while trying to uphold her promise to Loras - to free the La'heng from the compliant servitude state induced by a drug inflected by humans. The "protectors" now don't want to loss their control, or slaves. Jax has been here six months here trying to get through legally with every Nicuan official possible, while Laras rallies rebels with their cure. The first mission after acquiring rebels; to red code the planet so Conglomerate won't let any ships come, or leave, stopping the Nicuan from sending support here. This should give Le'heng time to cure and fight back. First March and Sasha are expected for a two week visit then head out before the war starts. Jax had thought she was done with bloodshed after the wars she saw and fought. Now she's at the top of the list to fight for her friend and his peoples freedom, and not everyone she knows and loves will make it out alive.
I miss the characters who were lost or left and remembered through out the series, but love the characters present and returning, and even new joining us. Jax's past always seems to be in the forefront as a memory or how it can help with what she's learned by her mistakes. Always making Jax think.
We get a quick refresher of the La'heng people and their servitude. I remember back to Loras when Jax learned so much about him and his kind, but it was a while ago and so much has happened since then so very nice to get the quick reminders in the story.
We see Jax and March in the beginning and they seem so good and with Jax's relationship with Vel. All seems great. But I wait knowing the other shoe's going to drop. All the losses in Jax's life are still fresh in Jax's mind. She doesn't regret, but misses them and the choices she's made over time. All this has created the Jax we see now, a new and different Jax.
Ann's writing has hurled me to this point, as I had to keep going and still in the last book ann propels me to flip pages feeling a full range of emotions; happy, giddy, sad, worried, scared.
We get the extra little snippets, as in the other books, that give us the views of the outside and enemies. We see quick letters between key fellow revolutionists, interviews with La'hengian who have taken the cure and what they've seen or lived through, and news casters against or for the rebellion. All giving a feel of the war the world is fighting.
This story is like coming home to a comfy chair, to read Jax again.
**I read this book for my own enjoyment.

Just for Fun...Book and Music
While reading one of my latest reads this song kept playing while at work and everywhere. And it reminded me of the book.
The lines: "Starships were meant to fly, Hands up and touch the sky" in the song reminded me of Jax desire to fly and the aching to get into grimspace again. Just seemed to fit in my mind for those lines.

No, I'm not a fan of the artist, but the song is okay, and this one really clicked with me.

UF Book Chat (31) Stop 1
We have come to our first stop in the last Sirantha Jax book, Endgame by Ann Aguirre. Wow. This is so comfortable and heart-filling/breaking. Love this series.
I don't know how long I can hold out before finishing the second half. So, lets get to chatting!
**WARNING: There will BE SPOILERS, in comments and questions. If you've not read the series, and plan to, or afraid of spoiling the book for you, don't read any further.
To get us started we have a few thoughts to get chatting. Anything else you might think of, just mention in the comments and we'll join in.
Robyn's Questions:
1.) I'm missing Dina. Do you think we'll see any of the old gang by the end of the book or is their story over:
2.) Speaking of being over. Do you think March and Jax are safe? Will they get a true happy ending?
3.) What do you think of Sasha?
4.) If March and Jax don't end up together, what about Vel? Would you be okay with them being together?
Melissa's Questions:
1.) How much longer do you think March will hold back from completely joining the war? What about Sasha and joining the cause?
2.) What do you think of the new characters? Farrah kinda reminds me of the old Jax when she was fighting under March. What do you think?
3.) Do you completely trust Tarn and Leviter?

Who? What? Where? (84)
Share with us just a little bit of what is happening in the book you are reading, right where you are now.
Just a tiny taste of what's happening, remember try to not give spoilers of the book.
(This is a new meme I'm going to try and will tweak as I go. And please don't laugh at my lame attempt at drawing. ;D )
This Week:
I'm with Jax as she leaves Constance in the empty hall of base and heads towards March's quarters. There is a discussion they need to have, and I'm not sure how this one will go over. Though, March and Jax could very well surprise me, but we have to have this chat as Jax is shipping out in the morning.

Looking Forward To...(106)
There are so many amazing books already on the shelves and new ones coming out.
For a list of books yet to be released I'm looking to get, you can also look on my right Sidebar at the ever growing list titled Desired Reads - just scroll down. Of course there are tones of other new books to come out that are amazing as well, but these ones are part of series I have already started or for one reason or another caught my eye (and haven't seen much on other blogs yet). But I will highlight one here each week.
(mentioned in order of Release Date then Alphabetical if there are more than one book coming out on the same date.)
Next Book Is...
I've been enjoying this whole series. It's different in space read, that's not over techy, and all story. Ann has taken us places I wouldn't have expected with this character. This is a must have on release day!

Cover Release: Endgame
This is another AMAZING addition to the Jax series... Endgame I'm excited to get to this book, yet sad too. All great things must come to an end, and this is the last book in the Jax series, as planned. It has been one amazing journey through the universe and time with Jax. And I can't wait to get a hold of this one.
But, one cool thing, Ann has a new series starting in 2013; Dread Queen, that is a spin-off of this universe. So I will TOTALLY be there. ;D
If you would like to visit Ann's blog to check out any books, please jump over.
Are you ready for the final Jax cover?

Book Review: Aftermath
Aftermath
By: Ann Aguirre
Publisher: Ace Books
Publish Date: September 2011
Format: Paperback 307pgs, pocketbook size
Genre: Science Fiction, Fantasy
Series: 5th book in Sirantha Jax series; Book 1 ~ Grimspace, Book 2 ~ Wanderlust, Book 3 ~ Doubleblind, Book 4 ~ Killbox
Recommendation: Oh yes! This series takes you through all parts of Jax's life, so keep going! And see what road she heads down next.
Book Synopsis:
Dead heroes get monuments.
Live ones get trials.
Sirantha Jax has the right genes - ones that enable her to "jump" faster-than-light ships through grimspace. But it's also in her genetic makeup to get it alone. It's a character trait that has gotten her into - and out of - hot water time and time again, but now she's caused one of the most horrific events in military history...
During the war against murderous, flesh-eating aliens, Sirantha went AWOL and shifted grimspace beacons to keep the enemy from invading humanity's homeworld. The cost of her actions: the destruction of modern interstellar travel - and the lives of six hundred Conglomerate soldiers.
Accused of dereliction of duty, desertion, mass murder, and high treason, Sirantha is on trial for her life. And only time will tell if she's one of the Conglomerate's Greatest heroes - or most infamous criminals...
First Sentence:
Dying isn't like living; it requires no effort at all.
My Thoughts and Summary:
Jax has reconfigured the beacons to stop their enemy, but its disabled the Conglomerate and everyone else from jumping as well. And what about anyone who might have been jumping at the time she reconfigured? She needs to tell everyone not to jump, and how to jump the new configurations. When Jax and Hit make it back to Venice Minor they see the Morguts have attacked the planet, burning the hanger and buildings. There's no sign of life. Jax is worried the Conglomerate will find her guilty of working without orders, High Treason, going AWOL, and death of ships full of crew in grimspace. Jax fights to get back to civilization and is imprisoned for her way of saving so many lives. Then Jax has a whole journey to correct her wrongs, and hold her promises and Vel goes with her.
By the time you have gotten to this book, you know what's going on. You don't need the rehashing of all the previous events and you are ready to move on. This book briefly mentions the ending of Killbox, but that is because Aftermath starts exactly at that point. This is the wonderful thing about this series, you are fully invested by now. As we come to the carrying through with promises and old friends revisited, you remember the feelings and happenings right with Jax as you need them. Ann does a wonderful job of bringing back those feelings and not bogging down the story with old events.
Jax has grown so much as a person in these books. She is now aware of the results her actions leave behind and tries to correct those, or at least make amends with them. Then we have all the promises Jax has made along the way through the last four books. This book is one that ties a lot of those up, cleaning up lots of lose ends. Jax is paying her debts, training the new patterns, and making visits on needed promises.
While Jax was incarcerated we get to read letters back and forth between Jax and March. We start to see these two might have different paths to follow, but love each other so. But this is the way we get to keep March in the picture. We get Vel back in this book. God is he a great friend to Jax. The only one who seems to completely get her and her ways. Vel is the rock that Jax needs here. They get their own adventure in the Makers land, which brings them EXTREMELY closer.
We still have correspondents between Edun and Tarn. This gives us a small glimpse of the political end and what they are doing to help with the trial. These letters seem more personable along with business. Then Tarn and Edun are done with their business here as well. But! I'm hoping we might get to meet Edun in person in the next book. I am left with a small glimmer of hope that it could happen.
This series has taken me on an amazing ride of emotions. We have had fun and laughed, been serious, fought a war, lost friends along the way, fell in love, and now cried when life's paths go askew. This book brought tears to my eyes for the last hundred or so pages, and I cried at the end. I loved how Ann has taken these characters to the point of no return and makes those tough choices. All along the way I have fallen for these characters.
I read this book for my own enjoyment.

Book Blog Chat (17) Stop 1
We are half way through wading through Aftermath. And there is a lot of aftermath from Killbox. But we will get to chatting about that here.
I hope you join us! Robyn & I have a few questions to get the ball rolling, but we will chat on anything in the first half you would like to chat on or speculate about. :)
WARNING! There WILL BE SPOILERS in comments and possibly in questions.
Robyn's Questions:
1.) Do you think there is any hope for March and Jax at this point? I don't know. The old March would come running after she was free. But now with his nephew? Could that be the thing that pushes the two apart?
2.) Now that Jax is free, what do you think is in store for her?
3.) No one is safe in this world. Did you ever except the death of Doc? Did you think if someone was to die it would be him or maybe someone else?
Melissa's Questions:
1.) Who's going to help Jax take care of her nanites and mechanical extras? Was Evelyn really paranoid and hide her data?
2.) How about Vel? He and Jax are such close friends. Will he always be there for Jax? Will she really NOT send him away in the future?
3.) How do you think things are going to go with Baby-Z2?

Killbox
By: Ann Aguirre
Publisher: Ace Books
Publish Date: August 2010
Format: Paperback 353pgs, pocketbook size
Genre: Science Fiction
Series: 4th book in Sirantha Jax Series; Book 1 ~ Grimspace, Book 2 ~ Wanderlust, Book 3 ~ Doubleblind
Recommendation: If you've come this far in the series, you HAVE to read this one. :) I think is the best thus far. If you haven't read this series yet, What are you waiting for?
Book Synopsis:
Talk is cheap when lives are in jeopardy.
Sirantha Jax is a "jumper," a woman who possesses the unique genetic makeup needed to navigate faster-than-light ships through grimspace. With no tolerance for political diplomacy, she quits her ambassador post so she can get back to saving the universe the way she does best - by mouthing off and kicking butt.
And her tactics are needed more than ever. Flesh-eating aliens are attacking stations on the outskirts of space, and for may people the Conglomerate's forces are arriving too late to serve and protect them.
Now Jax must take matters into her own hands by recruiting a militia to defend the frontiers - out of the worst criminals, mercenaries, and raiders who ever traveled through grimspace...

Grimspace blazes through me like a star gone nova.
My Thoughts and Summary:
Jax is with March and crew jumping again, leaving Ithiss-Tor. She quits her job as ambassador and they are heading back to Emry Station where Surge and Kora have taken charge. Jax agrees to train her first apprentice jumper. The Conglomerate now needs to work on creating policing ships to help protect the space and different worlds from pirates, slavers , the Syndicate, and other troubles lurking. Chancellor Tarn has asked for March's help... Jax learns she is an all new type of jumper... and she just might be able to help save them all...
I like how this book pulls from the last 2 books to work them together. Emry Station and technology. Angus who we learned in Doubleblind has J-gene, and the dream of March's and others from Lachion to create a new academy for jumpers. Jax starts down this path with new methods, ideas, and technology.
Jax seems to be at the top of the game here. She has become the hero type from the influence of March and the crew. And March gets a glimpse of how it feels to be on the other side watching those you love risk their own life for others. Jax has learned a lot about herself in the previous book and in this book it just accelerates. I know I say this with each book, but Jax has come a long way since the nav star she was way back before the series started and she does remind herself off and on. Jax takes on some new technology and things to improve herself, which comes greatly handy. She even shares her DNA to make jumpers better. But the information she gathers to help with the drives and even a few other pieces is what leads us to the ending of this book. Jax has become wonderful at thinking outside the box, which Farwan didn't want jumpers to do. Jax puzzles the pieces together to come up with a wonderful yet heart wrenching idea. War is in full swing, and Jax has an idea to at least slow the Morguts down.
We have a new mysterious, yet key character that shows up here. We only get a small feel for this person through letters passed between this person and Chancellor Tarn. I'm not even sure who or what this character is yet. Or if we have ever met him prior. I don't think so, but don't really know.
I think this book has become my favorite out of the series thus far. There is much that happens here. Jax has to learn to let go of what she is holding so close, what she never had until she met March and the crew. The crew has become a family and close friends. The crew does have to separate here as they need to spreed the knowledge they share with others to defeat the Murgot's and the army they have created with the war starting. A whole new species comes back to life here. Jax and March are even tested to their limits to try to think of the bigger result other than just their love for each other.
As much as I loved broken March, I really liked Commander March too. Oh, I was mad with him at first but who can stay mad at March? Not I or even Jax. Vel isn't as prominent in this book, but the few scenes he and Jax share; Jax pulls at the heart strings regarding her close friend. Who would have thought I could love a bug so... We do see Jax's mother again, surprise surprise, and in a new light as well.
I think this book is the best book of the series yet! Full of action and information. We do get more details here with some technological upgrades, but they are not overly bearing to take over the story. In this book we focus more on the war at hand and the battles that must be won.
The end left me thinking they forgot to attach pages and my jaw hanging open, stuttering. Jax, Hit,... March? The Morguts! Now What!?! Leaves you WANTING Aftermath, which is now available. I CAN'T WAIT to get it on my doorstep here soon. Yes, I ordered my copy already.
I read this book for my own enjoyment.

Book Blog Chat (17)...Schedule
We have our next Book Chat picked and ready for you! I DO hope you join us!!
This book is a new release to a series we have been reading, and just couldn't wait to get into this new book. We have decided to read it in only 2 parts. Yep, we are that excited about it and feel we wont be able to stop when we get started.
So what is it and the dates?
Aftermath
By: Ann Aguirre
DEAD HEROES GET MONUMENTS. LIVE ONES GET TRIALS.
Sirantha Jax has the right genes—ones that enable her to “jump” faster-than-light ships through grimspace. But it’s also in her genetic makeup to go it alone. It’s a character trait that has gotten her into—and out of—hot water time and time again, but now she’s caused one of the most horrific events in military history…
During the war against murderous, flesh-eating aliens, Sirantha went AWOL and shifted grimspace beacons to keep the enemy from invading humanity’s homeworld. The cost of her actions: the destruction of modern interstellar travel—and the lives of six hundred Conglomerate soldiers.
Accused of dereliction of duty, desertion, mass murder, and high treason, Sirantha is on trial for her life. And only time will tell if she’s one of the Conglomerate’s greatest heroes—or most infamous criminals…
Schedule:
Stop 1 ~ Sept. 15, 2011 ~ 156pg ~ End of Chapter 20
Stop 2 ~ Sept. 22, 2011 ~ End of Book

Blog Book Chat (17) Stop 2
We have come to our second space station in Killbox by Ann Aguirre. We are fueling up and readying for the final battle of the book. It's all a downward slid from here, so catch up on what's happening and all your thoughts so we can take off again.
What a book! Hope you are enjoying it as much as we are. But now to some questions to get us started chatting.
Please remember! If you have not read the book, there WILL BE SPOILERS in this chat. Possibly in the questions as well.
Robyn's Questions:
1.) I was surprised March and Jax still ended up in the same ship. I thought they would end up going their separate ways. do you think March is still keeping her close for personal or work reasons?
2.) Do you trust Evelyn? Part of me does but still not knowing what the Morguts want with her, it makes me nervous. She seemed too eager to help at the beginning.
3.) With the testing of Jax. This could cause trouble for her in the future. Health issues for sure but what about her safety? when others find out, will they use her? What if the Morguts find out? With what they are doing with Jax, maybe they could use her against the Morguts and Morguts won't be too happy about that.
4.) I wanted to scream at March when he broke the news to Jax but at the same time I understand why he did it. Do you think they can stay as workers? March still loves her that if something were still to happen to her, you know that would kill him.
Melissa's Questions:
1.) What do you think the Morguts are up to, with being after Evelyn & Uranium?
2.) Do you think Hit will survive?
3.) Did March get the Morfex that Tarn has?
4.) Do you think we'll get a close up of the Morgut and their technology now?

Looking Forward To...(62)
There are so many amazing books already on the shelves and new ones coming out.

#5 Sirantha Jax Series
By: Ann Aguirre
Due Out: August 30, 2011
I've been enjoying this Science Fiction series for a little while now. And I'm actually currently reading Killbox, the 4th in the series. This is one Science Fiction story that is full of action, the story always moves forward, a couple (yes couple, not a love triangle ~ its kind of nice for a change), and most of all NOT weighted down with the technology details. Sirantha Jax is growing as a character by leaps and bounds and always adjusting. Really fun reads.
I have reviewed the first three books, if you are curious:
Grimspace
Wanderlust
Doubleblind
