Sunday Post #111

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

Happy New Year!

I think it's been about four weeks since I last did a Sunday Post. (Or more.) It was getting hectic around here with preparations for the holidays, so I had to put something aside. We have been doing well and it was nice to see family again. Though it all goes by so fast. *sigh*

Kiddo is still going to physical therapy for his knee twice a week. It's going well, but he can not get it straight. It's like it's stuck or locked in there and he can't get it straight. He goes back to the doctor this week and we'll see what he says. We have a strong feeling he'll put kiddo under and do the manipulation to straighten it. We just hope it works and stays that way. Other than that, Kiddo is walking well and getting strength back quicker than expected by the physical therapist. He can even ride the bike now, and pedal fast! lol.

As for me, it's been a rough time for reading. I watch Kiddo at therapy and life is moving fast, so time for reading is limited. But I'm able to listen to books at work, so I'll still have tons of books to share with you! I know not everyone does audio books, but the books are still worth picking up in print or ebook. ;)

I've been sick for new years. Yeah. Not. I'm finally getting over this sinus infection. I just hope it stays away. This weather we've been having is crazy for Pennsylvania! It's warm!

The Fit Booker:

Goal:  Workout in any form of exercise (or on Wii Fit) 2x's a week. (to feel better and hope to drop a few pants sizes)

How did I do last week... I only got one run in since the week of Christmas. These holidays and therapy for kiddo along with vet visits have eaten all my time. And can't forget about being sick. Yuck. I need to get back at it this week.

Episode 11, Season 1:
I, as Runner 5, has to investigate the hospital for CDC files. It seems I find more than could have been expected. Dr. Myers's friend who worked in this lab left a book addressed to Dr. Myers! This could be the research to tell the source of the zombie plague.

Received Last Weeks:

Review & Review Consideration:
Roadside Magic by Lilith Saintcrow
Goodreads Synopsis:
The Seelie and unSeelie Courts are both in plague-ravaged tatters. The Wild Hunt roams unchecked, taking who and what it will, and the walls between the human world and the world of the sidhe are thinning rapidly. Gallow is the only hope of human and sidhe both.

But all Jeremy wants to do is find Robin Ragged . . . and survive. Unfortunately, everyone who meets him has other plans. Including the Ragged, who is fleeing for her life—and the King of Unwinter, whose poisoned blade has cut deep into Jeremy's flesh...

Legends of the Destrati by Dina James
Amazon Synopsis:
Among Ethereals, Clan Destrati’s reputation and exploits are as renowned as the associates it boasts.

Within these pages are but a few of their legends.

Play Dead - Nikolai is on a mission bring a certain renegade vampire to justice before his clan council. Known as The Betrayer, Kyle is a powerful force to be reckoned with by any standard, both feared and shunned by every single vampire clan in existence. Why he would choose to assist one of their members — the very member sent to bring Kyle to justice — is his own affair. The better question is why anyone, let alone a Destrati, would accept the Betrayer’s help.

In From The Cold - Kyle abhors the word “vampire.” He prefers the more accurate term “lost soul,” for that is how true vampires are made — through a damning bargain with the Devil. Kyle is unique among what could loosely be called his kind, for he not only wants the return of what he feels was stolen from him, he wants retribution. On a cold night, a conversation with the Destrati Queen helps ease his desire for vengeance.

Used for blood sport their lives are allowed to continue only for the entertainment of the masses. Reviled as savages, they are destined to serve out their immortal lives in the arena, as gladiators.
And there is no greater gladiator than Mira: undefeated, uncompromising...and seemingly unbreakable. When an escape attempt leads Mira into the path of Lucian Stavros, the city’s Regent, her destiny is changed forever.
Lucian, raised in a culture which both reviles and celebrates the savagery and inhumanity of vampires, finds Mira as intriguing as she is brash. An impulsive decision - to become Mira’s patron – changes more than just Lucian’s perception about vampire kind. The course of his life is altered in ways he could never have predicted – a life that is suddenly as expendable as hers.
Can Mira prove to Lucian that all is not as it seems? Can Lucian escape centuries of lies, bloodshed, and propaganda to see the truth? Or will the supreme power of the human overlords destroy them both?

But Serendipity Gardens has more to offer than just a potential shopfront. An unusual recipe box left to me by a distant relative might be the key to unlocking my dreams.

Too bad the most powerful family in Chancellor has plans that could turn those dreams to ruins—literally.

Too bad the son of that powerful family is just the kind of guy I’ve been looking for.

I suppose being heir to the Hunter family’s Blushing Grape Winery should make me happy, but nothing could be further from the truth. With my mother gone, my father has taken me under his wing, and I despise everything about the way he does business. Sour grapes, indeed. Instead of raising money for charitable causes, my true passion, I’m chasing my father’s manifest destiny.

Too bad his dream includes paving paradise.

Too bad the property owner is the sweetest woman I’ve ever met.
