Sunday Post #46

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~
It's been another one of those weeks. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong anymore. I can't seem to get anything accomplished. But it might be that change of season starting to hit me? Who knows. The schedule is changing with the kids sports season and I haven't been feeling well.
But, on a good note, I feel like I got a few things off my list yesterday. However, there are still tons of things to do. *sigh* I haven't written anything yet either. That bums me out. I will figure out this new schedule...soon? When I get caught up with a few books here.
Oh! We Spring forward today. It's good for the light hours, but I lose an hour today. Bummer. It'll hit me tomorrow. Always does.
I did get a new laptop that I'm excited about, but I have to wait for my computer friend to come and link everything up for me.
I've signed up for the Kickstarter for Billi Buddings.
Do you enjoy 1920's feel of a book with mobsters? With fantasy blended in? That is what Billibub Baddings brings to us. It's different, and I really love it. Billibub is a dwarf from another land that found is way to our world (in 1920's) and is a detective, looking for magical items that fell here as well.
Review:
Weather Child by Philippa Ballantine
Goodreads Synopsis:
From the writer of Books of the Order and the co-author of the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences comes a new historical fantasy about two lovers separated by magic and circumstance. Never alone. Never apart. They are the Awakened, a unique breed of people in a remote corner of the world. Faith is one of these gifted carriers of the Seraphim; and in return of her unconditional love, her Seraphim grants her powers of incredible potential. But not all carriers embrace their blessing. Jack loathes being an Awakened. He never asked for it, his Seraphim keeping him alive even in spite of his desire to die. Not even a great war could rid him of this curse. Now a magician of incredible ability and a walking dead man must find a way to work together to save the Seraphim. Someone covets the power of the Awakened, and will not stop until that power belongs to him.
Immortal Hunter by Kait Ballenger
Goodreads Synopsis:
Hunters of the supernatural, the Execution Underground are an elite group tasked with protecting humanity...but at what price?
As an exorcist, David Aronowitz grew up the target of demonic
assassins. Now he’s a member of the Execution Underground
and hellspawn everywhere fear his name. But when a demon
slips into the seductive body of the only woman he’s ever loved,
David must confront the heartbreak of their past to save her.
The piece of her heart Allsún O’Hare gave to David so long ago
left her trapped between two worlds: the Fae and the human.
And when David comes to her rescue, fate reunites her with her
greatest temptation—and her biggest mistake.
Now, as they’re swept together into a wicked game with the
demon who controls her, David must decide if saving Allsún’s
life is worth sacrificing his own—and the future of humanity itself.
Free Ebooks:
The Woods by Stephen Leigh
Goodreads Synopsis:
Award-winning science fiction and fantasy author Stephen Leigh offers us a dark urban fantasy novel where the borders between reality and fantasy are blurred and difficult to see. Here, the wild and romanticized dreamscape of youth intersects the gray, adult world beyond.
Rob Mullins and Mark Dyson are fast friends, growing up in a neighborhood surrounded by a forest. The boys have spent their childhood among the green pathways of the woods playing as pirates, knights, and adventurers. They believe nothing can ever alter the bond between them. But adolescence wields a compulsive snare, and fantasy can no longer hold back reality. Rob’s parents are preparing to move, threatening to tear Rob away from everything he has known, while Mark’s father JD has become increasingly abusive and harsh. Rob’s familiar world and his friendship with Mark are both unraveling.
But the pretense of magic remains. Mark, through a startling sacrifice, appears to call into existence a young girl of the same age: Sheila. Her fey, magical, and erotic presence shatters the last remnants of Mark and Rob’s childhood.
THE WOODS is a strong, riveting, and frank exploration of young adulthood that reminds us that every wish and desire bears its own price.
Beyond Sanctuary by Janet E. Morris
Goodreads Synopsis:
THE SACRED BAND GOES NORTH – TO WAR!
Here is the new, revised and expanded Author’s Cut edition of BEYOND SANCTUARY, the first ever full-length novel to take you BEYOND the notorious Thieves World™ fantasy universe, where gods still stalk the land, warring with demons and human sorcerers and trampling unfortunate humanity underfoot.
If you like stories of bold brave knights employed in meritorious duty, or tales of ladies delicate and fair, be warned. Beyond Sanctuary, set at the foot of notorious Wizardwall, may be too much for your sensibilities. There wizards, bards, and maidens mingle with murderers and thieves, and the fight breaking out at the next table may be the one that ends your life.
The hero of BEYOND SANCTUARY is Tempus, leader of mercenaries and warrior-servant of Vashanka, god of storm and war. With Niko, Cime, and the Froth Daughter Jihan, Tempus faces the archmage Datan and his unholy followers – in a battle for the Rankan Empire’s survival and that of his very soul. BEYOND SANCTUARY is the first novel in Janet Morris’ BEYOND series, followed by BEYOND THE VEIL and BEYOND WIZARDWALL.
