Thoughts On: Avalon Revisited Ch 13-16

Avalon Revisited

By:  O.M. Grey

Genre:  Victorian Vampire Steampunk Romance

Chapter:  13-14

Format:  Podcast, 29:52 minutes

Book Synopsis:
Arthur has made his existence as a vampire bearable for over three hundred years by immersing himself in blood and debauchery.  Aboard an airship gala, he meets Avalon, an aspiring vampire slayer who sparks fire into Arthur's shriveled heart.  Together they try to solve the mystery of several horrendous murders on the dark streets of London.  Cultures clash and pressures rise in this sexy Steampunk Romance.

My Thoughts and Summary:
Chapter 13
Arthur has passed out in his library with the others, but is woken by a frantic Avalon thirty minutes after dawn.  Victor is gone!  Cecil does appear with tea though.  Avalon is going after Victor, he had to have gone back to the crept.

Arthur bundles up for one of the few sunny days in London, when Victor returns.  The crept was a mess with corpses stewed about.  I wonder what happened there with all the corpses, did the wife return looking for her husband?  Or what?

Arthur corners Cecil to as what he's been doing and not around.  Cecil makes his claim to why he's not been around.  Arthur believes him, but I'm not so sure I do just yet.

Chapter 14
The next evening Cecil does what he never does, rouses Arthur.  Arthur has two guests, Avalon and Victor. Two more murders happened, rather young women at the brothel Arthur had visited.  To the brothel they go.

Victor didn't sleep at all, over the two more murders while the others slept.  (Again my thoughts race back to Nicholas, I think the young woman are what triggered it.).  But something is up with Victor, other than severe lack of sleep.  Victor is again suspicious more than ever of Arthur, even tests him again of being a vampire.  Even goes as far as to being as desperate to roughly question one of the women at the brothel giving Arthur's undercover disguise up.

Oo!  There is a clockwork device found under the bed of a victim.  Reminds Arthur of Cecil's arm blood-letting device.  Victor recognizes it as well, but doesn't say and won't say until sure.  Victor takes off.

Victor is really acting strange and trying to prove with great desperation that Arthur is a vampire, or turn Avalon from him.  New piece of the mystery pop up!  We also have Emily requesting another 'tea' date.  Arthur even realizes he's falling in love with Avalon for more than just one reason.

This could be a few chapters to re-listen to with Victor's change and new murders along with potential clues.

Chapter:  15-16

Format:  Podcast, 28:57

My Thoughts and Summary:
Chapter 15
Victor is at rendezvous, the carriage, and feels his find is the key to the case.Victor has planned to go somewhere, Victor and Avalon don't know where but are to change out of disguises in the carriage on the way.

Oh, Arthur has a terrible time controlling himself in this carriage ride.  I loved it.  Such torture for him.  He does work out to be a gentleman though, and doesn't look or push.  However, the carriage ride does get bumping, and well the two end up sharing their first kiss.  Then Victor catches them, leading Victor to shoving him and Arthur once again moving to fast.  Victor now suspects Arthur as a vampire and maybe the murderer.

They are on their way to visit the maker of the contraption found at the brothel.  But on the way they are attacked by two murdered victims from earlier in story.  Victor is attacked.  On his dying breath Victor says Fredrick Lacey, giving the contraption to Avalon.

Chapter 16
Arthur forced Avalon to the carriage to go back to his home, but she jumps out and runs.  Arthur sends Thomas to follow her, to make sure she gets home safe.  Not knowing how the vampires/werewolves multiply  Arthur has to do what he has to, to prevent Victor from returning from the dead.  Then Arthur gets an idea about one of the hybrid-vampires.

Arthur stakes the second vampire in the heart to paralyses her, after dusting the other.  Lady Haldenby, Arthur's accidental kill at the beginning of the book, is now shackled in Arthur's basement.  He sees how her wounds heal in seconds, faster than him.  She recognizes Arthur, and he questions her.  We learn Freddie is who brought her back to life, Dr. Lacey.  Arthur doesn't get much from her, but enough to know where to start.

I'm curious as to who this Fredrick Lacey, Dr. Lacey, is as Lady Haldenby seems to believe he will rule the world.  Lady Haldenby does make a comment that Fredrick is upset with Arthur's involvement.  Hmm, why?  And again, what is his relation to Arthur?

    1. Oh Cherry, sorry to hear. The beginning is more with Arthur and his...manly ways, and a bit for the mystery to pick up. If you get to give it another try, hope it works for you. But I know not all are for everyone. :) Thank you!
