Movie Review: Thor

Thor

Released:  2011

Rated:  PG-13

Recommendation:  Sure, watch for relaxing enjoyment.

Synopsis:
The warrior Thor (Hemsworth) is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard by his father Odin (Hopkins) for his arrogance and sent to Earth to live among humans.  Falling in love with scientist Jane Foster (Portman) teaches Thor much-needed lessons, and his new-found strength comes into play as a villain from his homeland sends dark forces toward Earth

My Thoughts and Summary:
The synopsis on the movie doesn't sound very interesting.  However, from the relaxing enjoyment side of watching the movie, I really enjoyed it and there was a lot more to the story than so simply put in the synopsis.

Thor's home, Asgard, has the ability through science and magic to travel to any world when they wish.  Asgard is beautiful and peaceful, until a race of creatures once fought try to take back a special box hide away and guarded.  Thor jumps to start war and erase their existence.  Thor goes behind his fathers back after being told there are other ways to handle things in life and war is not always the answer causing his banishment from his home and intended to rule.  Thor is stripped of his armor and sent to Earth.  But the inside man now wants to make sure Thor is no threat... and dead.

I enjoyed the visuals in this movie.  The look of Asgard and the way they transported to other places.  But what I think I enjoyed was the tiny little twist to the bad guy.  Okay, so there were a few tiny little twists to his motives and I liked that at the end.

I do think I liked Loki and the way Tom Hiddleston played the part.  Sure, Chris Hemsworth was very good as Thor.  I do think I liked the Thor at the end of the movie better than the beginning Thor, which we are suppose to.  But I liked Loki best.  Just something about him struck me and stayed there.

This was a nice movie to kick back and just relax with.  I watched it with my men, husband and kid.  They both seemed to like the movie as well.  Of course they liked the huge metal monster and all the destruction, but liked the movie as a whole as well.  It had a slow start for them, but it was the setting of knowing Thors' world and what happened for him to be on Earth.  And we did have a few chuckles while watching, Jane Foster seems to have a thing for hitting Thor with her vehicle. hee hee.

  1. I didn't care for Loki..but I think that's because the actor was so good at being evil! I wish I had seen this at the theater, because the special effects were amazing. This is one movie I want to own!

  9. I want to see this film. I hear that the worst of it was not enough shirtless scenes (via Jeaniene Frost). LOL

What are you doing here? You should be working on NaNo, correct? Don't make me get the whip out....

  11. Lover of Romance - Oh, I just saw when looking for the picture and the synopsis that there is another Thor movie. :) I do want to see it as well. :) And glad you enjoyed Loki too. :) Thank you for stopping by!

Julie @ My 5 monkeys - I wasn't so sure about this one my self, but was pleasantly surprised. :) lol. Well, there was really only one scene with him shirtless. And the attraction with Jane was kind of sudden. But it is a movie. :D Thank you for stopping by!

Nina - Oh, I hope you enjoy the movie if you get to watch it next week. You'll have to let me know what you think. I went in with some low expectations and was actually surprised and pleased in the end. :) Thank you for stopping by!

Carolsnotebook - Oh, I do hope you both enjoy watching this when you get to it. It was a good movie to rent. :)

  12. Blodeuedd - Oh, I didn't think about that. But yes, I guess he was. I kind of liked the "person" view of them and how they are viewed as "gods". Thanks!

Melissa (Books&Things) - lol! No there was only one shirtless scene. Jeaniene Frost was soooo right. It is a gorgeous view though. ;D Oh, oops! I wrote this up before November so I had something to post, and two others as well. ;) And I'm over 10,000 words as of today! YEAH!! Don't know if the story's really making sense as my brain is running so much out at once, but I'll worry about that later. :D But keep the whip handy for next week. I might need it then when the brain freezes on me. ;D Thank you!!!!

Melliane - I was kind of glad I didn't spend the large sum of money to go to the theater, although I think the sights would have been amazing to see on the big screen. Glad to hear you enjoyed it as well! :D Thank you!

  15. Norse mythology mixed with aliens...Ragnorok came early this year, I see.

I actually REALLY liked Loki because he's one of the few comic book villains that has a legit reason for why he turns to the Dark Side. It's a depth of character Marcel and DC aren't well known for when it comes to the baddies (with the exception of Erik Lehnsher/Magneto).

    Smiles!

WonderBunny - Yeah, I wasn't sold on Thor at the beginning, but did like him by the end. :) And so glad to see you liked Loki too. He really played him wonderfully! :D

LoriStrongin - hee hee. So glad you liked Loki. I was surprised how many really like him. He's one bad guy to really enjoy. :) Thank you!!
