Flash Fiction Friday (21)

Dottie over at Tink's Place have come up with the idea for a Monday Morning Flash Fiction challenge. Each Monday a new picture prompt will be posted and if you choose to participate you post your story on Friday - 350 words, give or take.

I have to thank Blodeuedd at Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell for introducing me to this fun meme. I don't know if I'll be able to keep up with every week, but I'll give it a try from time to time.

The Image This Week:

By:  Melissa

She had run into the forest to hide away and read her book.  Her parents thought she was crazy to be spending so much time in her books.  They told her she needed to grow up, now that she was at marrying age, and start focusing on her life on finding a good strong man to take care of her and her taking care of him and the house.  But Allyes didn't want anything to do with the burly men in her small town.  Yes they were strong in the arm but dumb in the mind, and she wanted one that worked her mind and kept up with her speeding thoughts.

She sat down leaning on an old vine covered oak tree with a full canopy of dark green leaves.  Allyes opened her book getting lost in the pages of the story.  Suddenly Allyes opened her eyes, never realizing she fell asleep, to the darkened forest.  It wasn't overly bright when she sat down, but now it was dark.  Flickers and flashes of bright lights brought her eyes up.  Tilting her head up she saw the stars dropping through the branches and dark leaves.

The beautiful bright stars dropped to the ground then the glow was gone, but left standing were eight little fairies.  The fairies starred up to her, then she heard them squeaking.  Mesmerized by the sight of the tiny winged creatures from her story books, Allyes was froze, staring at them as they walked up her legs and flew to her shoulders.

One of the little glitter covered fairies on her shoulder whispered in her ear. "Come with us. We believe you and we could have so much fun." giggling. "Come and play and learn with us."

Allyes was stunned to see what she loved to read about.  She stood and followed the little fiends further into the wood.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day a pair of hunters walking through the wood found a female laying under a full old oak tree.  She did not awake at their arrival to her side.  She did not awake to their calling Miss.  Nor to their shakes of her shoulder.
One of the men picked her up and carried her back to town, to the doctor.  Her breathing was labored and slow.  The closer to town the slower her breathing became, almost to a stop.
The men stopped, the second ran to get the doctor.  The doctor came and they told where they found her and what was happening.  The doctor quickly had the men return her to the tree, having blankets brought to make a tent to keep her covered.
The young lady would have to stay sleeping here waiting to revive.  If she ever did.
  8. Hi Mel!
    Great flash, I loved the end... waiting to revive, if she ever did. The fae have their dastardly ways, enchanting and entrapping the wayward and unlucky who blunder in their path... Will she be lost forever to their magic?
    Dottie :)
