Do you like to see pictures of the Characters?

I create an image in my mind of the characters from the descriptions in the books.  But then what they do, say, and act seem to take over the images I create.  But when authors create pictures of the characters based on what they see and write, I LOVE seeing them.

Not so long ago I read Thief by Sarah-Jane Lehoux.  I loved it.  A wonderful fantasy read with many hard choices for the characters.  Review: Thief.  And Sarah-Jane has been posting pictures of her characters lately.  They are amazing!

Would you like to see them?  I do hope you go check them out in Sarah-Jane's gallery.

Which character picture is my favorite?  That is a hard one to pick as I enjoy seeing them all...
I like Sevy for her amazing eyes.
I Love Jarro for his beautiful blue eyes.
I Really Like the picture of Irea Reborn as it is really a neat look at what was an amazing description in the book.  I think this picture captures that moment perfectly.
Yy'voury and her blue skin and bright dress.  She is just beautiful.

And there are more pictures here I could go on and on about.  But, you are just going to have to go look for yourself. :)  And I hope these pictures spar a little flicker to go read the books. :)

  1. I usually like to look at them after I've read the book unless the author is an artist. Then I want to see what they see. :) I'm going to check out the gallery

  2. I’d rather not see pictures of the characters because what I imagine and what’s on the cover often clash. For instance I had to read Game of Thrones with an edition that had Sean Bean on the cover as Lord Stark and he did not appear at all like what I pictured that character to look like. Although, Harry Potter on the US covers and illustrations by Mary Grandpre is exactly how he is described in the book. So I guess I just contradicted myself.

  3. Melissa (Books&Things) - I always find it interesting to see what the author sees their characters as. It's so neat. I hope you enjoyed the gallery pictures.

StephanieD - lol. It's okay. But yes a lot of times the covers don't match the descriptions very well. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Oh cool. I didn't realize you liked the pictures enough to blog about them! Thank you!

I really just started making them because I was off work with a sprained ankle and bored out of my mind. But I'm happy with how they turned out.

Ironically, I don't like to see pictures before I read either. I used to read Lord of the Rings once a year until the movies came out. Then all the images I had in my mind were erased by the movie images, which I'm still a little sad over.

Anyway, thank you for posting this!

  5. Sarah-Jane - Oh I really enjoyed the pictures and then thought, why not post about them? That is part of the fun of posting, sharing with everyone. :) So I did. :) I have to say these pictures have turned out amazing! And glad something is helping to keep you occupied with not being able to be up and moving. Thank you! :) And you are very welcome. :)

  6. That's a tough call. If the author can create the pictures, then you can really visualize what they imagined as they were writing. on the other hand, if it's coming from someone else, I find it frustrating when their image doesn't gel with mine (case in point: the actor chosen to play Jace Wayland.) Some literary characters are better left to our own imaginations :)

  7. Jackie, this is so true. I like when the authors come up with the pictures, or work with someone to get it to what they see. And the actor for Jace didn't work for me when I first saw him. But I have to say I just saw a picture of him today, and he's growing on me. :) lol. Thank you!
