Favorite Fictional Character (23)

Thanks to the creative mind of Ryan at Wordsmithonia.

My favorite fictional character this week is from a series currently still being released.  We are currently waiting for book three, Antiphon, to come out.  The the author is Ken Scholes and the publishing company is Tor.  The series as actually named for this character as well, The Psalms of Isaak.

Isaak is a Mechoservitor or metal man, whos source of power is the steam powered engines in his chest.  And he is made of a special unworldly metal which prevents him from damage of fire.  But, aside from the magnificant creation of Isaak is the mystery behind him.  Isaak is the first Metal man to be given a name, by Rudolfo.  Isaak can't remember anything from the horrible distruction of the distruction of Windwir.  Has someone used him as a weapon?

Metal men are created to record information and to NOT lie.  The amazing thing about Isaak is he seems to adapt from this over time.  Was it from the distruction, tampering of his memory scrolls, or is he learning adapting and becoming more independent?  I have my suspecions as to what the story is.  You should go read the series to make your own.

Isaak seems to feel loyalty to certain people and tries to restore what was lost in the destruction of his home city.  I like how the Metal man with no feelings, rights, or worries becomes one to have all these in the way the books are written, yet the story is told from the view point of all but Isaak.

  1. As you know I still haven't read any of the books in this series and I must say that I'm now thinking that was a mistake. Isaak sounds like an interesting character. Thanks for bringing him to my attention.

  2. I really don't know anything about this series of books, but from your description it sounds like something I should check out. I really need to get back to doing the FFC meme again. In addition to it being fun, the one I did about Peter Pan, a while back, drives more traffic to my blog than anything else I've written. I'm a bit baffled about this though. I didn't realize Peter Pan was so popular. Anyways, great choice this week. I'm going to have to check out these books now.

  5. Ryan - Hi! Glad you liked the FFC. :) There is so much that happens and to read into the story. I hope you enjoy it.

Simcha - This is just one character too. There are many great characters and they just seem to grow in depth with each book. Peter Pan was a great FFC and it did draw alot of attention. I think because everyone has related with Peter Pan in one way or another. :) Look forward to when you do get back to FFC. ;)

Melissa - The picture was one posted by the author in relation to Isaak. Isaak is the character in the middle of it. This is the waste of what was left of Windber after the distruction.

Alexia - I have reviews of the first two books here on the blog. I'm glad you liked this weeks FFC. :)
