Audio? Podcast? What? Take 3

We've hit on a few questions that were general for anyone when it comes to Podcasts. Today I'm going to touch on a topic I want to get into when I discuss Podcasts after I'm done with the questions. This one is to see what keeps people from listening to Podcasts.

Please, I greatly appreciate all the feedback on these questions. I find it interesting and if I can help bring some amazing stories your direction, I want to do that. I understand everyone's preferences are different, and I'm A-Okay with that. I thought this would help me in a direction of discussion and help find you some amazing new stories to listen to.

I do hope you take a moment to answer the poll. Again, there are no wrong answers. This is opinions, and I'm curious to what they are. Thank you!

Why do you not listen to Podcast stories?
  1.    The break between episodes
  2.    I didn't know stories were Podcasted
  3.    I don't like the different voices or sound effects
  4.    I don't know what they are
  5.    Other: (comment or email)

As always, if you don't feel comfortable leaving your comment with other thoughts you have on podcasts, PLEASE feel free to email me. I want to hear YOUR thoughts. It might help me in the discussion or come up with another question for you all.

Audio? Podcast? What? Take 1

The curiosity bug has bitten me. As many of you know, I listen to lots of Podcasts. I've heard many who say they don't listen to or know of or what Podcasts are. And I see that many book readers listen to Audiobooks.

I'd like to share information with you, and myself, about Podcasts in comparison/reference to Audiobooks. In order to do so I have a series of questions I'm going to ask over the next 4-5 weeks (pending if more questions come up as I go that will help explain Podcasts and share them with you). I'd like to lead to an end discussion with a few authors (audio & podcast) on what the difference is between Audiobooks and Podcasts. And maybe if there are a few myths floating around we can talk about those too.

This week we are going to start easy.

Those of you that listen to Audiobooks, do you listen to Podcast stories?

  1.    Yes
  2.    No
  3.    What are Podcasts?

You can anonymously take the poll on the sidebar. If you have anything further you'd like to add or questions on the two, please leave them in the comments or feel free to email me at:

Any Thoughts on how to Celebrate?

I'm hoping you all can help me with what you might want to see for my 2 year blogging celebration.

I was thinking of asking a few fellow bloggers and authors I've meet over the two years, and have started to really think of some very good online friends, to do some guest posts.  Now I was thinking about change, time, and online as the basing start point.  But then thought it might be boring.  You know talk about how things have changed with doing blogging, or what happens with time, the way you spend your time now, how did you come to being on line with blogs.... blah blah blah.  But I didn't know if YOU as a reader thought this would be interesting or not.

So, I was wondering what you thought would be fun to read for a celebration.  I don't want to bring the party down, I want to celebrate hardy.  See, I have the 2 year blogging birthday end of July, then my wedding anniversary end of July (we've been together about 14 years, married 9 years), then I have a birthday at the beginning of August (yeah, I don't feel like sharing that age at the moment as I don't remember with out calculating the alignment of the sun, moon, age of my son and my mother... you know it gets complicated).

And yes, when the time comes there will be a or a few giveaways to celebrate.  But can you help me with what your thoughts are?  And if any of you authors or bloggers out there would like to participate please let me know.  You can email me and we'll get the post up for you. :)

Thank you all for your help!

What are your thoughts on Anthologies?

I have been thinking on anthology books.  I just finished reading Inked with 4 wonderful authors; Karen Chance, Marjorie M. Liu, Yasmine Galenorn, and Eileen Wilks.  If you would like to read my review click here.

But in thinking after the fact of reading this book and hearing of many other anthologies out or coming out, I have come up with a question for you...  Do you think you get a good feel for the authors writing style, for the characters, and of the world being built?

I got my anthology, Inked, because I had read the Hunter Kiss books by Marjorie M. Liu and loved them, so I wanted to keep going with the story.  I was also excited to meet new authors in this book as well, as I am always looking for more books to read and enjoy.

I did how ever have a few fears going into this book:
1.)  I was afraid all the stories where going to be of series the authors have already done and I would be totally lost.
2.)  I would not get a feel for the world or characters in hand here.
3.)  That the authors stories would feel rushed and incomplete.

In thinking they really only have an average of 120 pages (give or take) to get you up to speed on the characters, fall in love with them, and understand the wondrous worlds they are creating; then with this all in tail to tell a story as well.  And not just an average story but one to keep you going then come back for more and buy their books.  To me this sounds like a tall order to fill.

With reading Inked I was very impressed with each authors abilities in such a short story to fill these areas.  Of the four authors three of them where completely new to me.  One, I was not big on the main character but she finally came through for me in the end of the story, but the world created was amazing.  I fell in love with the world built and would really like to read more in it.  Then, one author I really loved the characters and got just a touch of the world they were in, but the mystery and description to the details was wonderful.  And the third author really got me hooked to the characters along with the world like ours with magic.

Of these three authors I would love to buy books by two of them for sure.  The third I will have to think on.  I think I will try the first book in her series as a curiosity to see if the character clicks with me better or not.  As I have heard great things of that author.

I was impressed with these authors abilities and after reading this anthology I would definitely read others.  I had a great experience with this one and look forward to reading more anthologies.  I currently have a few on my list now to get.

Please leave me a comment on your thoughts on Anthologies.  I am curious as to what you think too.
