To NaNoWriMo or Not To NaNoWriMo?

Many of you know it's been crazy train around my place. Nothing bad, just life moving on fast forward. I love doing all that life has in store for me lately but I also miss doing all the things I love to do with blogging and writing. But, it's okay. Like I said, I get to do more amazing things and enjoy much with friends and family.

So, to no surprise I'm going to take November off.

Like usual, it's NaNoWriMo time. I'm technically NOT doing NaNoWriMo. I've not signed up as I am not working on a new novel, or 50,000 words. I've decided to take the month and work on an existing WIP. I am in the process of doing re-writes now, but they are going slow. I want to use November to work more hardcore on this novel and get it to a rough point where I can send it to someone to read and talk about what is wrong and how to fix it.

November will be full of re-writes and re-reads of this project. I'm hoping to get through the whole draft I have here at least once and start into reading this again.

I will stop in for a quick visit from time to time as I do have audio book reviews to go live and I want to keep in touch with everyone. I do miss you all.

So, it'll probably be like life is happening now. I'll post two posts a week, if I have them, and my Sunday Posts. I'll work to get on for visiting twice a week for a bit. So leave comments and I'll return to your blog.

Off for November For NaNoWriMo

I know. I've struggled with blog visiting the last few months, and I don't deserve to take November off for that reason. But... I'm going to take it. I've taken November off from blogging for the last several years to participate in NaNoWriMo. And I plan on doing the same again.

I have a story mapped out (since about 10 months ago) and ready to go. We'll see how mapping works for me with this story. I'm curious if it'll keep me on track or if I'll feel restricted. I'm looking forward to getting back in the writing sprint stage again. This is always fun (until I read back through the horror of word blending I was enjoying). I've been working on re-writes for so long I think I forget what this feeling is. So I'm going to get back at it!

The goal is to hit 50k words on Christmas Warmth (working title), my second Christmas Business story. I'm also going to be reading through Christmas Spirit (1st book, working title) to get back into the business world and different characters there.

I'll be starting about a week late though. I'm working on a content editing job, and pay work always comes first (I can't pass up the pay!). But I find there will be no problem catching up with the word count for the month. I usually finish early as it is, so I should easily hit 50k, and then some.

As for reviews and posts... I will have some audiobook reviews going live through the month. Audiobooks help me get through the day at work, so I'll still be listening there. I hope you stop by to check them out even though I won't be around much.

I'm hoping that after November life will calm a bit with kiddo and all that I'll get back on a schedule for blog visiting and writing and editing work. :)

Now, to make words!

NaNoWriMo Time!

It's that time of year again.

(Thank you Frodo, @1FantasyFanatic on Twitter and of Frodo's Blog of Randomness for pulling this clip together for me a few years back.)

I take the month of November off from blogging to focus on writing in NaNoWriMo. I won two years and failed last year. But my failure last year wasn't one I look at as a true failure. I made choices and knew they would be made and stuck with them.

I was pondering, and still found myself going back and forth with the crazy few months I had, on whether to NaNo or not.

Then I made a decision. This is what I posted on Facebook and I'm going to stick with it:
"To NaNoWriMo or not to NaNoWriMo... I've been back & forth on this notion. Life has been crazy busy and is still going. I've not had much time to re-read words let along create (or think of creating) new ones.

For those reasons I think I need to do NaNoWriMo.

I feel my mind is starting to come back to place with all the crazy go-go-go family events (kids, I love them). I'm starting to get back to re-reading/writing a story I have and noting ideas for the second book. But that's all they are at this time, ideas. I need to sit down and put them together and how to get those feelings to come across in events. (I'll have to figure out how to do this on the go as that seems to be life these days.)

There is much still happening in life and paying work coming in. But I want to put an effort into doing NaNoWriMo. Will I hit the 50k count? Who knows, but I think I need the time to get back at what I enjoy, creating. Any words are better than what I have now.

So I'm going to work at reading through the 1st book and getting a rough idea down for where I'm going in book 2. It's late to do this, I know. But writing it helps me figure it out as well. So something is better than nothing. Right?

Pending work that comes in and life major events, I am making a decision right now. I'll be joining NaNoWriMo this year. I think I need a good kick in the keister to get back at it. And why not now?"

This year I'm going to try to do it all. Well, not blogging as much but writing and editing work.

If you participate in NaNoWriMo and would like to buddy me, please do! :)

*****I know this post is extremely late. I'm sorry, but I still wanted to post it.****

NaNoWriMo 2014

November is here and you know what that means.

NaNoWriMo time!

(Thank you Frodo, @1FantasyFanatic on Twitter and of Frodo's Blog of Randomness for pulling this clip together for me last year.)

I'll be off the grid for the month of November participating in NaNoWriMo. I'll try to do a check in a time or two through the month with updates, but mostly I won't be around. I'll be back in December getting back into the swing of things for the new year.

Usually I do a post of what I've learned the previous year(s) to remember and expand on for this year. This year I'm doing it a little different...

I'm going to do things a little different for NaNo this year. (If this upsets any NaNo-ers, then I'm sorry.) I've got three very basic stories started that I WANT to get re-written and fixed up. I want to learn from each story and make it better than what I had started with. So for NaNo this year I'm doing re-writes - NaNo-Re-WriMo. Yes it's not the traditional idea but it's what I need to do for myself.

I love the rush and craziness of that first drawing of the story. But I've found I miss a lot at doing that too. I want to fine tune what I have as it's missing scenes and create something to a ground zero draft. I figure this would be a great opportunity to focus on at least two of these stories.

My goal for the month of November:
-- Finish current read through/re-writes, which includes a few scenes not added in the rush of writing the story. Then re-read it to make sure flows and add a few touch-ups.
-- Read the fantasy story I started. Here I'll make notes as I know there is a LOT to fix and redo. Read and note additions, changes, deletions, blah blah. You know how it goes. There is even a WHOLE leg of the journey I didn't even write! So maybe I can write that? But I need to outline the world and what I need to setup for the end to happen, along with what lines I dropped into space. Then, if I'm lucky and cruising, I can start re-writes on this fantasy! Woot woot. That would be awesome!

So, it's a bit untraditional but what I feel I need to do at this time.

Happy NaNo-ing to all that are diving into the rush of a new (or old) novel.

NaNoWriMo 2013 - WINNER!

This was a hard NaNo for me. I did struggle a bit through this month, but came out in the end 56+k richer in words.

Yeah, sounds like I'm exaggerating about the harder NaNo for me. But I'm not. I struggled in the beginning. I was working on a sequel novella and by the forth day of the month I was tired of fighting it. It didn't feel right for me. I took a day off. Felt as if I was not going to get ANY words this month. Since the beginning of June life has been a bit hectic with family stuff. With all that's happening my creative side seemed to go on strike. I didn't feel as I could create anything. So, Jackie (@seolmara) talked me into doing a flash fiction. Then I got the spark idea for Dragon Gods. And I just COULDN'T let Starla Huchton (@riznphnx) beat me to 50k (which she did in the end).

I got through Dragon Gods and believe it or not had two story ideas sparking in the front of my mind. Yes, front. Not back. One of which I debated on starting for Nano when I couldn't go with my original idea, but it needs more research to it than I had time for at that moment. The second idea, I dictated onto my iPod and phone and have created note cards for. I'm ready to start it here in December.

But back to Nano...

What did I learn?
1.) No Sequels - At this point in my writing ability, I'm not able to breeze through a sequel book for NaNo.

2.) Free-for-all Writings - Sometimes you just need to write a project that will go no where. One to get the juices flowing again. Something creative but fun. This is what I did for NaNo this year.

3.) Needed, Good Healthy Competition - I am one that likes a good healthy competition. Starla Huchton gives me that. Although, she has surpassed my writing speed with all her amazing works this year, she still makes me work. Thank you Starla!

4.) Support System - Nano is rough. It's a lot. But the great support system to help keep you going when you need that kick in the kester is wonderful. Jackie really helped me when I was stuck. When I was ready to say "I'm done" Jackie suggested something that helped me pick up the pieces and keep moving forward. Even if we each wrote a book of short stories for Nano, we were going to keep going. Thank you Jackie!

5.) Get the Juices Flowing! - Once you get going, the ideas will come. Kind of like, You build it, they will come. Well, they do. I was exctatic to finish out Nano with two ideas sparking in my mind.

Once again, Nano go my juices flowing. Now, life willing, I will remain active in getting projects out of my head and in black and white along with re-writes of past projects.

The Results:
Sleeping Beauty Laying Beneath: 8,612
Short Story: 1,671
Dragon Gods: 46,120

(And I even had 836 words that I added to first story that I forgot to add into the count at NaNoWriMo.)

That time of year is approaching...NaNoWriMo Time!

November is right around the corner. And with it...NaNoWriMo! Many of you already know, but for the rest, I take November off from blogging. I focus my time and energy to getting 50k words in black and white. On the screen and ready for me to tear apart in the months to follow. (However, that was on the lacking side this year, when I really planned on getting serious. Thank you life.)

(Thank you Frodo, @1FantasyFanatic on Twitter and of Frodo's Blog of Randomness for pulling this clip together for me last year.)

I love NaNo. The interaction and friendly competition I have. The biggest excuse of all time to drop everything else for a month and write. Yep. I love it. It frees the mind.

So, what's in the plans this year... Um, I don't know? Well, I have an idea and I'm trying to think it out now. So I'm ready for November.

I've got two items in mind. My original plans were shot out the window when I got behind with everything from June on. So I'm going with plan two.

First up, my steampunk/clockworks fairytale remix novella. Sounds like a mouth full. lol. But this is the second one. I did the first for Camp NaNoWriMo in April. I'm currently *trying* to get through re-reading and adjusting it to ready for the next. I had no idea I was going to have a second when I started the first. At the end, it came to mind that another character needed a story to finish for her. My goal, 40k with this one.

Yes, I know. The goal target for NaNoWriMo is 50k and I'll be short. That's okay. I have another novella in mind. And it's a twisted fairytale of magic. It's one of those 'What if...' thinking. I'm going to see if I can make this one work for me. If not, it'll be fun.

So, I went back to last years wrap up post to see what advice I had for myself. I completely forgot I did this!

1) Getting the courage to start the first word, sentence, paragraph, and page. Each day. The first words are the scariest, but once I get going, it's all down hill from there.

2) Everyone has a purpose. These additional characters can add greatly to the story. Use them.

3) Don't look at the total number! So, this one is hard to do. But, I'm grateful for any and all words I get. But look at a daily count rather than the finishing number. That big number of 50,000 looks terrifying. Don't think of it. Not for the first week or two, at least!

4) Don't stress over what's happening in the story. Keep going forward. Get a story down. You switch gears in the middle? It's okay, you can fix the beginning later. Completely change the building you are in? Don't sweat it, you can fix the first half after you get through the whole idea you have going here. This is to get that whole thought, the starts of bones of a story, down. You can work with the rest later. You don't need the perfect descriptions yet either.

5) Don't Stop! If I get stuck, skip ahead to another scene. That missing piece might come to mind next week, or in a future scene you didn't realize was connected to it. Yep, it happens.

6) Don't go Back. If that skipped scene comes to mind, don't spend time looking for that spot. Draw a line and write it now. I'll loss that thought if I wait to long. If I get off path, pull back to where I want. Don't erase. Don't fix it. Hey, that is back story! Remember that. All words count!

7) Stuck? Don't know what to do with the story, world or character(s)? Try writing from another character POV. I might learn something to get me going with the story where I was stopped. Again, ALL WORDS COUNT! And, another back story. I'm getting to know the characters a bit more.

8) Whether it works or not, WRITE IT! Once you have it out, you'll know what direction you want to go. Don't delete it though. Make a note or rewrite it if you must. Yes, I just said write the scene twice. You'll know what will work and will have options when you go back through re-writing.

9) Keep a Notebook near. When on the go or even when at the computer typing away. The mind is always flowing and you want to catch though fleeting thoughts as they happen.

There are a lot of thoughts to keep in mind as I go this year. I will also use sprints to my advantage and friends who support me. Huge thing. Friends.

Camp NaNoWriMo...

Ready for a campfire story all?  See that new image with link on my left sidebar there?  Yep, I got talked into another NaNoWriMo month.  Well, didn't take much talking really.

Yes, it seems I'm joining Camp NaNoWriMo this year for April.  I'm keeping my word count low as there are lots of things that happen here in real life in April...mostly centered around kiddo.  So my goal, 10k.  Sounds doable seeing as Skyla suckered me out of 2,778 words on one Friday evening in a story idea I still had in the mental workings.  Yes, 'Mental Workings' as I had no notes for it yet.  Oh a few short things for the starts, but that was it.  So, I'm hoping 10k could fly for a month.

Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Skyla Dawn Cameron seems to have found my weakness.  I can't say no to a challenge, (no this wasn't a challenge) even a kind hearted one that someone wants me to just play along nicely.  *sigh*  But to me, in my mind, I WANT to rise to the possibility here.  I WANT this.  I WANT to keep writing, it might be shitty but I WANT to keep trying.  I WILL keep going at it.  And Skyla gives me that nudge every now and then.  Love her for it.  And NaNoWriMo gives me an excuse to do it.  I've got a few ideas scribbled down on napkins here.  One that I think is a short story that I might want to try and see what happens with it.  So, that's what I'm doing.  I might scrap it in the end, but I won't know if I like it until I try it.  Sounds like as good a time as any to do that.

AND...I'm going to have to start making allllll soooorts of notes on other ideas I have flowing so I can live up to a possible writing project in the future.  I've got a few ideas bouncing around this skull of mine, but nothing written down as I have to do research.  Seems I'm going to have to get to that research sooner rather than later, which is great as it gives me a kick in the arse I need to keep going.

So, wish me luck for this little venture.  Maybe I'll accomplish it in one week, and then knowing me I'll keep going.  Or maybe I'll get through two short ideas, as I do have short novella thoughts on the current full length novel I'm working on too.  Who knows what April will bring.  We'll just have to wait and see.

Another NaNoWriMo Under the Belt

I finished Nanowrimo again!  This is the second year in a row.  *happy dance*

I actually hit 50,000 words on Monday November 26th -- 4 whole days early -- and that was after Thanksgiving weekend of 2 days of no writing or thinking and 1 day of only 1,200 words.  Yeah, you can Thank Starla Huchton for those words, she had me running scared she would pass me in word count. lol.  A good dose of good old friendly competition.  Thank you Starla!!

Then on Tuesday November 27th, I had more to write.  So I topped out and verified the story with 52,068 words.  Woot woot!! :D And the next night Jayda had more to tell me.  It's not in the total count, but that's okay, the story is going.

Thank you all!! For your support, cheering, and still stopping by to check in on me and my progress.  You are all amazing people!

I have several people that made a difference for me this year, and several that I enjoyed cheering on as what they shared with me with their experiences writing and doing Nano helped me greatly.  The personal touch people put into connecting with others while writing during Nano is amazing.  The community is an embracing one and I love them all.
   We have my wonderful Nano-ing buddy always - Jackie, @seolmara
   Skyla Dawn Cameron, @Skyladawn - as always is one of my number one cheerleaders.
   Starla Huchton, @riznphnx - was great to keep me going on the numbers.  You had me sweating. ;)
   Laura Nicole, @LN_dragonsong - It's wonderful to hear about your story and experiences.
   Doc Coleman, @scaleslea - You have really helped inspire me to want to get through the rewrites that come next with all our chats on your blog in your update posts!  I want to dig in.
      All these authors and others have been highlighted on Roundtable Podcast as they discuss what they get help and plan and talk for and during Nanowrimo.  I'll say, listening to these experienced authors really helped motivate me to want to do more, and do it again this month!

This year was completely different for me with this story.  I feel like I did more world and myth creating than story in the nano.  I did find the further along I went in the story, that there were more scenes I needed to add, and wrote them.  This year wasn't as much "kill, kill the character" as it was drawing the world and history here.  I like my action, so I'm going to have lots to add in.  It might be better than I think as I did add new scenes to go in the beginning as I went.  I don't think I was as ready for this years Nano, but I also am a pantser.  I have an idea of where I'm starting and where I'm ending, but the stuff in the middle...yeah, it's all not so planned.  So I'll see when I get back to it.

I had a huge scene at the end of the book, I was terrified of writing.  I knew what I wanted to happen, but wasn't sure how to write it, put words to it.  One step at a time.  Once I started, it started to come.  Oh heavens, it needs redone.  I know that.  But I have a better idea of what to say to get it across.

What I've learned and some advice...to myself for next year:  (it may not work for you, but helps me)
~~ The first words are always scary.  I don't think they will lead anywhere, but once on the screen it's funny how many doors open in my mind.
   1st goal - getting the courage to start that first word, sentence, paragraph, page, and on we go.  Even each day.

~~ Everyone has a purpose.  A friend told me this the first year of Nano and I reminded myself as I went through, There are connections here, but what? past? future? present?  That can create all new parts I didn't realize were to be added.  And give me options in the future of the book too.

~~ Don't look at the total number!  I'm grateful for any word I get.  It's truly more than what I had before sitting down.  It sounds like it contradicts what you are doing with Nanowrimo, but you can't sweat the numbers you start forcing words that don't work.  If you look at what the totals to be, you might panic.  That's a large number.  Your story might be more or less, if less I'm sure there's expanding somewhere to get you there.  Each day in Nano is like learning to walk, one foot in front of the other to close the distance between you and something you love.  Each word is a step getting you closer to something you want to share.  In the end you do stay aware of the number counts, but be proud of the number you get, no matter how high or low it is.  If you work full time with a family running wild around you, or at home trying to take care of everyone else, or even starring at the screen waiting for the inspiration to hit you.  If you only get 100 words, that is 100 more than you had before you started.

~~ Don't stress over what's happening in the story.  Don't worry about getting the perfect description and perfect scenes.  KEEP GOING FORWARD.  Really, you will go back and find you like things and hate others.  This is perfectly fine!  This process with Nano is to help do one thing...GET YOUR ARSE IN A CHAIR AND WRITE.  Oh! Yes, that's it.  Now, those authors out there that are published and pros, yes they are harder on themselves to get a solid story to go from, but me; I'm a newbie and to get a simple hard HARD rough story idea is a miracle for me.  I'm happy to have a beginning and an ending, and a bunch of stuff happening in the middle to get me from point A to point B.  That is the major accomplishment for me, and you.  We will have loads of work later, but I have ideas to print to work with, form, and mold to what I want.  Let you imagination run wild each day, like a little kid again telling fairytale stories.
   - this also goes for form and structure of the story.  Write scenes out of order (it's actually rather liberating), write them as they come to you.  Get something to work with later, in the here and now.

~~ Don't Stop!  If you get stuck, skip ahead to another scene, character anything.  That missing piece might come to mind next week.

~~ Don't go back.  This is a two part-er.
   - with the don't stop and skip ahead above thought, if that scene comes to mind, draw a line and write it.  You can move it next month.  Don't waste the precious word producing minutes and you might lose the feeling for the scene at that moment.
   - If you get off path pull back to where you want, don't go fix it.  Don't erase it.  Make notes and you can fix it later.  Those words all count!  You wrote them, put your heart into them, and they might have meaning you can draw from later.

~~ Stuck?  Don't know what to do with the story, world, or character(s)?  Try writing from another character view you have.  They might give you another view of the world and happenings to tell you what's happening that your main doesn't know.  You may not keep in the distant future of the finished book, but for here and now, MORE WORDS!! And could open more doors for you to spark what you need to go on again with where you were stuck at.

~~ Whether it works or not, write it.  Once you have it out you'll know what direction you want to go.  But don't delete it!  Not yet.  The idea could help later.  Whether crappy or not, they are words and give you an idea of what you want.  They set the stage, one way or another, for you.  Do or not do.  In thought it might sound good, but you may not know until in print if it'll work.  Keep it and delete in re-writes, but you know it won't work, note 'no good' in brackets or something, but mostly likely you'll know later as well.

~~ Keep a notebook near.  While writing and when on the go in life.  I found this helps me greatly.  As I write I realize there are questions that need to be addressed, either later in the story or added into a scene.  I note these to think on later and add in.  I've found once the creative juices start flowing, sometimes they come when I'm not at the computer.  Thank goodness for the notebook in my purse, there have been tons of notes added when I was at work or on the go with errands and such.

I know so many of my sentences can be combined to make one strong sentence, but that's what I can fix up later.  For now, the idea is in black and white (with some colorful highlights for me as well).  Now it's on to the next step with these Nano projects.  I was scared to do anything with last years, but now thanks to all I've been talking to, I'm ready to dig in and tear it apart!

NaNo, NaNo, NaNoWriMo Time!

Nano, Nano, NaNoWriMo!

So many of you know I loved this last year.  I had so much fun writing a story idea I had during this month.  Yes, it's a hot ugly mess, but it's much more than I've ever accomplished before.  Learned  a lot about the story, characters, and even myself in writing.

I had a blast!  And can't wait to do it again.  Can you tell I'm excited?  This is me, as I and so syked to get started...

(Thank you Frodo, @1FantasyFanatic on Twitter, and of Frodo's Blog of Randomness for creating this clip together for me.  This IS what I wanted!)

But I thought I'd stroll down memory lane from what I learned last year as I NaNo-ed.  These are things I definitely want to do again as it worked well for me.

What I learned last year:
(if you would like to read my post on what I learned last NaNoWriMo)

1.)  FRIENDS ~ Friends are a big thing when wee little people (and newbies like me) are crunching to get 50,000 words in just 30 short days.  They make if fun, and help the momentum going forward.  Also, they remind you NOT TO LOOK BACK.  This is a forward movement run.  At least for me it is.

2.)  Sprints ~ Sprints helped me keep moving forward.  I already have in mind, somewhere in that head of mine, what I want to do and I over think from time to time.  Sprints kept me going, and kept things going in the story.

3.)  When Stuck, DON'T STOP ~ This is huge.  Don't give up because something doesn't piece together right.  Skip ahead a little bit if need be, but keep going.  Throw something stupid in.  There's going to be tons to clean up when done, so don't fret over it.  Jump ahead and fill that in later.

4.)  FIX IT LATER! ~ This is one key to remember as I went through.  For me NaNoWriMo was to get out the basic idea and story.  I'll fix the story holes and editing later.  Hell, I know it's going to need a complete re-write before editing, but this is the bare bones to start with and evolve later.

My last lesson, and is one I LOOOVE...
5.)  When in Doubt, Kill your Character...or try ~ Oh, this got me through so many times last year.  If I started to get bored with the writing and to humdrum, I tried to kill my character.  You would be surprised what you learn from the 'other characters' reactions.  Their personalities start to come to the surface, and keeps the story interesting for me.  I like my action, and in my fantasies it works wonderfully.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As for the blog here...
I'm not going to be around much.  I will warn you, I won't be visiting many blogs or even posting here much.  I'll try to do a Monday Beginnings Post to check in with my friends.  And I'll try to get scheduled the Throwback Thursday Posts so others can link up and continue even with me not around.  If you want to find me, I'll most likely be around Twitter as that is where I meet up with a few Nano friends and write together.
If you are curious as to how Nano is going, I'll share it in the Monday Beginnings Posts I do.  I also have a Nano numbers calendar on the left sidebar to show what my numbers are each day.  The goal is 1,667 words a day to read 50,000 words by the end of the month.  Last year I think I finished 4 or so days early, so I'm working for more than the daily goal.
So, yes, I'm excited to get back into NaNoWriMo and creating my own world again. :)
Thank you! And what I learned...Nanowrimo
I wanted to share a few things on Nanowrimo.  Yeah, I know you all are probably tired of hearing about it.  So, I will try to not mention it again after this.  Okay?  (note I said "try") :)
So, where do I begin?
First and Foremost, I have to THANK a few very special people who helped me during Nanowrimo.
I don't know where to start, so I'm just going down the list...
Jackie of My Ever Expanding Library and @seolmara on Twitter.  If you follow me on twitter you know her and I where in this eyeballs deep together.  We cheered each other on and sprinted together.  Yes, sprinted - going for 20 minutes (or 15) straight none stop, not looking back, to see who got the most words.  I say we tied. ;)
Melissa of He Followed Me Home... Can I Keep Him? and @hefollowedme on Twitter.  She was our cheerleader through out the process. :) She helped us keep our spirits up when we where ready to say we couldn't do it....back in the beginning when we where trying to get started.
Skyla Dawn Cameron (her blog) and @skyladawn on Twitter.  She has really helped keep me going.  Being a published author and all she still had time to give me the peep talks and busts I needed to keep going at the beginning and through it all.  She doesn't know it but she was the one to keep my word count going in the beginning.  I'm just glad she was working on 3 books at once.  I have this streak in me that I don't like to give up and definitely don't like to loss.  Which kept me going but tracking my word count daily against Skyla's helped keep me going.  She is a quick writer and I wanted to keep up, a little healthy competition for me.  (don't tell her)
Another author that doesn't even know she was helping me as I watched her word count jump by leaps and bounds and wanted to keep with here was Elaine Corvidae.  She is found on twitter @ElaineCorvidae and on her blog.  In the end she took off with the word count and no I couldn't keep up with her, but I loved the rush of trying to do it. :) And she was another to help cheer me on as well.
 Love these authors!  It's amazing how kind they are. ;D And suffer the same worries and troubles as I did, even with me just starting and them being veterans.
Melissa of Books & Things... @BooksThings on Twitter She did not need the whip.  But she did threaten me with it a few times.  And I jumped!  That thing is deadly, let me tell you.  Spikes and all.  She is viciously accurate with her aim as well.  LOL!  She is one of the many followers how stuck with me through the month here and gave me all sorts of support to keep going. :)
Bastard Books.... @BastardBooks on Twitter... well, what can I say to someone with a name like that?  lol.  He helped pick (along with a few others) a book to read on the side lines that kept me going.  Then he was the devil on the late nights when I was saying on Twitter I was heading to bed but still had thoughts to get out.  By devil I mean that voice that tells you to keep writing, keep going, who needs sleep? lol. Yep he held up to his name. ;D But in all that, I got some great stuff out that I probably would have forgotten about by the time I got home the next night to write.
Sadly, I know there are others to acknowledge, but I'm brain dead!  I'm sorry if I missed you.
Thank you all for the boost all month to keep going.
A few things I Learned and Found I liked...
1)  The Sprints.  I was scared to death of these, but found they helped me push forward and not worry on each word at that moment.  Yes, I'll have loads of clean up but they pushed me through the thoughts with quickness.  I really loved this.
2)  Friends are HUGE!  It is great to have friends help keep you going, whether through friendly competition or a shoulder to cry on.  It makes all the difference in the world.
3)  So much support!  I felt going in no one would want to support me; I'm new, never finished a book thought, blah blah blah... All true about me, except I was so wrong about no one wanting to support me.  I was pleasantly surprised and tremendously grateful!  Even established authors have the same worries and trials as a newbie like me.  That alone helped make me feel more comfortable along with being so kind and inspiring.  AND my followers!  You all kept coming around all month cheering me on.  Just stopping by to say hello to me made me feel better. :) Thank you all!!!
4)  When in doubt, Kill your character.  Or at least try.  Every time I got stuck, I tried to kill my characters... okay so there might be a lot of fights as I tried it a lot... but in doing that it kept my fantasy read going, made me think on the world and other characters around.  And those darn characters with a hero complex came to the surface.  Ha!  And the chickens hide.  You learn a lot about the characters that way.
5)  When stuck, DON'T STOP.  Push through with something, you can always fix it later.  Skip to another scene and fill the gap another time.  If you ask, it will come... just maybe later.
6) FIX IT LATER! - I can go back and rewrite it, fix it, add to it, delete it, whatever later.  But get the thoughts out now while they are there.  You just never know where those thoughts might lead to, so use them.  You can fix it later.
Now for the hard part... rewriting and revising. :) Will you all help me? lol. Thank you!!
NaNoWriMo Anyone? And off for a Month...maybe?
I wanted to post to let you all know I'll be scarce around the blogging world for the month of November.  I'm going to attempt to do NaNoWriMo this year.  My first attempt, and truthfully my first time at trying to get a whole novel out of my head.  I always write notes but haven't really put them all together.  Yeah, my trouble's I talk myself out of the book when I just get started.  But, I'm hoping to stick with it to the end this time... no matter how stupid it sounds.  If you are doing NaNoWriMo, you can buddy me (if or when it gets up and running) my name is Melhay.
But back to the post.  I'll have posts scheduled to go like my Throwback Thursday and Looking Forward Too... posts.  But other than that I wont be posting much.  If you are curious about how I'm doing I'll try to post Monday's Beginnings with updates.  And I'll be around on Twitter and Facebook so follow me there and chat with me when ever.  I have Twitter on my cell, so as long as I have service and Twitter isn't overloaded I should be able to jump on the chat. :)
I wanted to let you all know so you don't disappear on me.  I'm not going to be here much or visiting much.  I really want to do this, for once, for myself.  Even though I plan on #failingmiserably.  I know, I shouldn't be so negative.  But I think if I don't expect much out of myself then I wont be let down in the end and maybe excited with what I do get done.
I plan on being back with a vengeance December.  And I have some ideas to start then as well, if I can get them pulled together here. :)
