Movie Review: In Time

In Time

Released:  2011

Rated:  PG-13

Genre:  Sci-Fi, Thriller, Action

Length:  109mins = 1hr 49mins

Recommendation:  Oh yes, Surprisingly new and wonderful take on time, with a splash of old time guns and robbery.

Synopsis:
Welcome to a world where time has become the ultimate currency.  You stop aging at 25, but there's a catch: you're genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless you can buy your way out of it.  The rich "earn" decades at a time (remaining at age 25), becoming essentially immortal, while the rest beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through the day.  When a man from the wrong side of the tracks is falsely accused of murder, he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful hostage.  Living minute to minute, the duo's love becomes a powerful tool in their war against the system.

My Thoughts and Summary:
In a world where people only age to twenty-five, then have one year left to live, people have to find a way to get more time.  To survive longer you work for time, buy and sell time, everyone's' days are numbered.  Will Salas lives in the district that is poor, and people kill for more days, minutes, seconds just to breathe.  Will helps a man that is obviously from the rich district, the people that live like immortals, as he shows off his century of time.  When safe and while he sleeps this man passes on a hundred years to Will.  Which puts Will on the radars as a this mans killer.  All Will wanted to do is live his life and keep his mother safe.  When he can't get to her in time, he makes a trip to the long lived district to take everything from them.  He meets a lovely young woman, and kidnaps her to get out in one piece, only to have her defiant youth to come out and help him save many others.  For one to live, many must die, and they don't agree to this thinking... they can all live.

This reminded me of a Bonnie and Clyde feeling with Sylvia and Will.  I really enjoyed the new twist with time being currency.  This to me was a brilliant new take for a movie.  As always, we have our classes and then the police to keep every one and time in the zones its all to be in.

I thought this movie was well done.  I don't know where I've been the last year as I never knew about this movie until skimming through Netflix one day.  And no I'm not a Justin Timberlake fan, I didn't even know he was in this when I got it.  But I will say he played this rule very well.  There was also another actress you might know, Olivia Wilde.  She played in the television series House for a short time and has done several movies. She is Will's mom.  It's strange seeing people of the same age calling each other mom and such at the beginning, but then you forget that as the story really gets moving.

Will has no intention of taking on the world and entire system, he just wants to help the ones he loves to live longer.  But with the way things are and who are there Will takes on the system to help all of the people around him.  Will is not fighting to get the time clocks taken out but to give everyone more than 26 years to live.  That is what makes this story.  And there is the time keeper, the police in a word, after Will now for Will is shifting time around and into zones it should not be, or that's what they believe according to their set up.

We all rather enjoyed this movie.  I was worried when I ordered it that it would be a dud, but it shone through for us.  The husband enjoyed the story, action and the science fiction take.  As well did the kid, who really got to thinking on the science fiction take of genetically created time clocks.  Me, I was taken with the movie as well.  Surprised it was so good and had elements we all enjoy enough to have us all extremely pleased with the movie in the end.

I would say go ahead and rent this one.  You just might like it like us.
