First Impression:  Taran is on a mission...

Synopsis:
Taran Wird, who commands the power to wield fire and lightning, is an oddity in the supernatural world. But neither Taran nor her unique sisters compare to the bizarre entity known as Destiny. And Taran is assigned to protect her.

Born of two witches, Destiny is revered among the supernatural elite for her acute ability to predict the future. Her biggest prophecy involves Taran’s sister, Celia, whom Destiny decreed will bear children strong enough to take on the evil that’s rising. Yet Destiny is not alone in her predictions, or individuality.

When Johnny Fate, a rock star among humans and a male version of Destiny is discovered, his powers and Destiny’s clash, triggering the start of Destiny’s demise and altering the fate of Celia’s unborn children.

Taran, her werewolf lover Gemini, and their allies must determine if it’s Fate who will decide what will become of Celia’s children, or if their lives and the world will perish with Destiny.

First Sentence:
I'm shoved into a cold room where a band of bloodsucking fiends tear off my clothes.

Purchase At:
Amazon  /  Barnes & Nobles (Print or Ebook)  /  Book Depository

My Thoughts and Summary:
*I offered to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Taran will do all she can to make sure her sister, Celia, and her baby will be safe. Even tracking down powerful relics at her own harm. Gemini, Taran's mate, is upset because she goes off without telling him. Though, she knows he would do all he can to stop her from what she feels she must do - protect her sister and baby.

Things are getting tense in the Alliance. Each group had a powerful leader attacked. Some group is acting to take out the powerful in order to get to Celia and her baby. The baby destined to do great things. All are assigned to protect the leaders, leaving Taran to protect Destiny. Destiny has fun plans for them, but when they go to a concert of rock star Johnny Fate things take a turn no one ever saw coming.

This beginning was a grabber! Wow, that's a way to start a book. And this scene is totally a Taran moment. lol. I loved it!

Taran is one of the most amusing characters to follow. Her colorful phrases and comparisons make me wonder what she'll say or think next. I love reading them. She makes me smile with each unique phrasing. Taran is a fighter. Dang girl. She may not fist fight in her pink heels but she won't stop going on and she'll fight if she has to. She's strong in her personality and determination.

Taran does what Taran does best...blow stuff up. Taran's arm... Yep. If you've read the previous books, you know her arm is rather special. Even seems to have a mind of it's own. But there is more to it. Totally awesome. I love how Taran has her own major spot in the way things will go in the future. These Wird girls are rather special, you can't deny that.

I get some view of Em here through Taran's interactions with her. This is interesting. I had questions regarding her at the end of Celia's last book. I'm glad to get some outsider view of Em and her interactions with others. I still have questions, but I feel like I'm getting pieces I am wanting.

As a whole the story gives us more tidbits on Taran and her sisters impact in the future. There's even talk of the girls children. Yes, girls, plural. This leaves us knowing there are more books to come to get to those moments. Also, the new enemy is known. So we'll have to deal with them as well.

Oh Cecy. You had me smiling with these crazy characters. And you had me tearing up. I should know by now that when I read one of these books, I'll feel an array of emotions with the characters. I love it!

Another entertaining installment to the Weird Sisters world full of action, determination, and love.

Book Review: Of Flame and Light

Of Flame and Light

By:  Cecy Robson

Publish Date:  October 18, 2016

Format:  eARC

Genre:  Urban Fantasy

Series:  7th in Weird Girls series; Novella 0.4 ~ A Curse Awakened, Novella 0.5 ~ The Weird Girls, Book 1 ~ Sealed with a Curse, Book 2 ~ A Cursed Embrace, Novella 2.5 ~ A Cursed Moon, Book 3 ~ Cursed By Destiney, Book 4 ~ A Cursed Bloodline, Book 5 ~ A Curse Unbroken, Book 6 ~ Of Flame and Promise

Impression:  Taran is a hot spark and you don't want to mess with her!

Synopsis:
Taran Wird holds the unique ability to conjure fire and lightning. She is mated to Gemini, Second in Command to the Squaw Valley Pack of the Lake Tahoe Region, and the sole werewolf to possess the ability to split into two wolves. And although they are mates, Taran's insecurities have driven them apart.

Devastated by an injury that left her with a zombie-like limb, Taran struggles to regain command over her magic. But when her arm and her power turn against her, lashing out on those she most loves, she knows she can no longer carry this burden alone. Not that she likes the alternative.

The only way to regain control of her magic is to align and learn from the local coven of witches―the very ones who sought to banish her when she and her three unique sisters first moved to the mystical region. But although Taran is trying, the teachings don't come easy, and the tasks leave her weak and emotionally shattered.

Yet Taran must learn and learn fast. Time is running out. The fire she once mastered so easily has become her greatest adversary and is now slowly burning her alive . . .

First Sentence:
You know it's going to be a bad day when you wake up in the morning and the first word out of your mouth is "fuck."

Purchase At:
Amazon  /  Barnes & Nobles

My Thoughts and Summary:
*This book was provided by the author or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review, at my request.

Taran's new arm is misbehaving, severely. It's protective yet deadly dangerous, and not under Taran's control. Aric takes Taran to the one person that could help her, and the one person Taran hates the most. Genevieve, the powerful woman in charge of the local coven. Taran refuses to stay to train, accept and learn control over her new limb. Seeing Gemini close to the coven leader sends Taran over the edge, not wanting to be near either of them. Taran takes the test offered. Retrieve a witch who's gone rogue, meaning she's given to the dark magic or gone crazy, proving she's one with her new arm and gained control of it. Taran makes a new friend yet ends up back at the coven. Taran's sparky personality and uncontrollable arm makes things interesting for her.

There is something about Cecy's writing that grips me and holds me to the page. Each sister has her own set of troubles to work through and each girl and troubles are different which makes the books so enthralling for me. I just want to forget the rest of the world and keep reading, not even watch my favorite shows!

Oh do I love Taran! She's my kind of girl. She's quick with comebacks and on uses swear words to the best they can be use. She has quick clips that are off the wall yet fit perfectly for the situation or moment. I am always curious what next she'll say. With her great personality, there's more. Poor Taran. She's struggling with much of the same thing Cecy did with Aric, her and Gemini are not doing well. But there seems to be more to this stalled relationship with Gemini and Taran, and it seems to have to do with her new arm.

All this with the new arm that's uncontrollable and protective. It reacts in a flash and things turn into a mess. Also, the power in her and the arm is building and could kill her. Taran is struggling with her magic and emotions, which sparks her magic. Oh the things that happen! LOL! And to see the coven that's so close to nature, and feed nature with their emotions. Oh Taran makes a hot mess of it all. And I loved it!

We get to see the witch coven of Genevieve. Wow! It's crazy here. lol. But the events that happen with the plants and water make me laugh too. Taran is one feisty lady. Taran's emotions run hot but many may not see that, they may only see a woman who's angry. Taran is hurting in a few ways and it shows, even it that's not what people see on the outside.

We do get to see Taran and Gemini together, though it's not as you would expect. Nice twist to the moment. And we do learn what is going on with Gemini and Taran. I'm even curious about Emme... there is something more there with her and another. And... Oh I need to see more with Emme! lol.

This is the next book in the series. We see Celia married and pregnant. I so love seeing the sisters together. They have a great relationship and try to take care of each other. We start out the gat seeing all the girls again but also with Taran's biggest trouble, her arm and her fire is eating her alive.

I enjoyed getting to spend time with Bren again too! We see him for a time in the book. I love his humor and connection with the sisters.

I'm so in love with these sisters and characters. I can't wait for more books!!

Excerpt:
My focus drifts to my sisters. “Do what you have to and stay safe. Don’t worry about me.”

It’s a stupid thing to say. Of course they’ll worry. For once in our lives I’m the one who needs coddling. Not that I don’t absolutely hate it.

My hiking boots press into the ground as we move away from the road. They’re not what I count as cute shoes. But since my cute clothes tend to end up covered with blood and smelly supernatural fluids, here I am in jeans, a long-sleeved shirt and vest, and yeah, the hiking boots.

Bren leaps over a thick section of brush, landing smoothly as I try to figure out the closest way in. “It’s clear,” he says. “Come on.”

He means the first few feet are clear. I can’t see jack over these thick brambles. I look hopelessly to Emme, wishing I didn’t have to. She regards me almost apologetically, realizing what I’m asking her to do.

Emme is good at a lot of things: baking, scrapbooking, and keeping up on all our collective bills. But her aim sucks. So when she throws me over the brush with her force, it takes all I have not to scream. Thankfully Bren is good at catching, no matter how bad the throw.

“Christ,” I mutter as he eases me down.

Shayna inherited a bit of were from Koda’s essence. And while she’ll never heal or run as fast as a were, he gave her enough agility to clear the thick brambles without Emme’s help.

Poor Emme. Her aim isn’t any better on herself. Bren has to “go long” to keep her from slamming into a tree when she launches herself forward.

Shayna and I jog ahead to where Bren is lowering Emme to the ground. He kisses her cheek, a show of affection he often demonstrates to us, but this time she doesn’t welcome it like she once did. She meets his eyes, backing away slowly, as if she’s afraid to step too close. Bren frowns, speaking low. Emme answers with a nod, but again steps further away from him.

Shayna doesn’t seem to notice, skipping across the rugged terrain as if we’re out for a stroll and not walking into some evil crap we may have to kill before it rips us apart. But I notice. Something is definitely up with Emme. I stiffen when he strokes her cheek. And son of a bitch, it may have to do with Bren!

Book Review: Of Flame and Promise

Of Flame of Promise

By:  Cecy Robson

Publish Date:  January 12, 2016

Publisher:  Loveswept

Format:  eBook

Genre:  Paranormal Romance

Series:  6th in Weird Girls series; 0.4 Novella ~ A Curse Awakened, 0.5 Novella ~ The Weird Girls, 1st Book ~ Sealed with a Curse, 2nd Book ~ A Cursed Embrace, 2.5 Novella ~ A Cursed Moon, 3rd Book ~ Cursed By Destiny, 4th Book ~ A Cursed Bloodline, 5th Book ~ A Curse Unbroken

Impression:  Love's not easy, and Taran is working on learning how to coop.

Synopsis:
Cursed by a spell meant to destroy them, Taran Wird and her sisters instead developed unique magical talents. With the power of fire and lightning literally at her fingertips, Taran doesn’t fear much. Demons, vamps, whatever—bring ’em on! Only one thing terrifies her: commitment.

Taran is crazy about her boyfriend, Gemini, a sexy were with the incredible ability to split into two separate wolves. But after watching her sister go through heartbreak with the pack’s Alpha, Taran knows not to count on happily ever after—despite Gemini’s desire to claim her as his mate. Reluctantly, she agrees to meet his very traditional and conservative parents. Taran’s a badass with a mouth to match, and Gemini loves her for it. She’s just not positive these attributes will please Mom and Dad.

Unsurprisingly, every attempt by Taran to bond with Gemini’s folks proves disastrous. But in the end, Taran finds that winning them over means unleashing her powers . . . and proving that this foul-mouthed fire-starter is a force to be reckoned with.

My Thoughts and Summary:
*I requested this book for review from NetGalley.

The war is still going and Taran is scared each time Gemini leaves to fight. He may not return to her as they lose more men in each outing. Taran doesn't like the emotional side of things, but she'd fight to the death for Gemini. Gemini loves Taran and wants to close any gaps they have. He's ready to take the next step, for Taran to meet his parents. Taran tries to prepare for meeting Gemini's strict parents with the demon children attacks happening around them.

Taran and her awesome humor. I got a kick out of her creative wording and thoughts. She's not shy in saying what she thinks, and that makes Taran special and amazing. She's also very sensual. So starts off with smexy. Taran knows she's not the type to meet mom and dad. That she's the fun time type girl. She uses this to cover for so much that's happened in Taran's life and protect her heart. Taran's had a rough upbringing through the foster care.

Taran's magic! We get a sense of how Taran's magic works. Cool! It was pretty awesome to see Taran in a magic showdown with another witch. I didn't get the feel of complete angst that we usually get with Celia's stories, but she had me in the end. I was determined I would not cry in reading this book. I worked very hard, yet in the end I failed. I did tear up at Taran and Gemini. It was magnificent. How torn yet how much love there is. Taran comes to grips with it all.

I had to giggle and shake my head for Taran a few times. She tries ever so hard to be the girl Gemini's parents would want for him, and yet everything seems to constantly go wrong. It wouldn't be funny from their view, but I did enjoy it.

This novel takes place before the end of Celia's book, A Curse Unbroken. The story has events that reference to Celia that were resolved in her last book. This was something I was a bit disappointed with. Somehow I missed this little detail. But Taran's book is all about Taran and she's amazing.

I look forward to reading stories with the rest of the Wird sisters as they find love.

Excerpt:

I’d woken only about an hour ago, Gemini’s warm, naked body curled against mine firing a need that required some serious quenching. So I buried my face in his lap to stir him from sleep.

Most women would have just said good morning, or nudged their partners ever so lovingly.

But I wasn’t most women.

Yeah, and you’re welcome, baby.

Gemini slowed his deep thrusts, grunting hard as he finished, his face scrunched in what appeared to be pain. But that wasn’t pain, was it? Nope, not at all. He was simply reacting to how good it felt to join his body with mine. I nibbled my way along his neck, leaving marks that faded from one bite to the next until I reached his earlobe and tugged. “Mornin’, sexy,” I whispered.

He growled something I didn’t quite understand. I didn’t speak a word of wolf, yet that deep snarl was as good as the dirty talk we’d exchanged during sex.

I laughed. Okay, maybe it wasn’t as good as those naughty words. Yet a growl from a werewolf in his human form was a rare kind of hot few women would know.

I continued to straddle Gemini as he effortlessly carried us from the center of the room, where we’d made love standing up, and back to our bed. The gentle way in which he kissed me was in direct contrast to our wicked sex, and to the male most saw.

My lover was the second in command of the Tahoe region’s Squaw Valley Den Pack—intelligent, fierce, capable of crushing skulls, quietly confident, and with fighting skills few weres possessed.
Not to mention he was hotter than the power I generated with my magic.

All large anatomical parts and good looks aside, Gemini was . . . kind. When you trash-talked, and entered a room like you owned it like I did, it attracted a certain caliber of men. The kind that made me grateful I could protect myself with fire and lightning.

Men could be cruel, and dangerous. I knew that better than most. But unlike those men I’ve known in my past, I trusted Gemini.

Book Review: A Curse Unbroken

A Curse Unbroken

By:  Cecy Robson

Publish Date:  March 10, 2015

Published By:  Loveswept

Format:  eARC

Genre:  Paranormal Romance

Series:  5th in Weird Girls series; 0.5 Novella ~ The Weird Girls, Book 1 ~ Sealed with a Curse, Book 2 ~ A Cursed Embrace, 2.5 Novella ~ A Cursed Moon, Book 3 ~ Cursed By Destiny, Book 4 ~ A Cursed Bloodline

Recommendation:  Oh my. Weeeeelll worth the read. Celia's life is rough, but oh so worth the fight.

Synopsis:
The preternatural world is changing. After a massive magical throwdown tore apart the established order, the dark elements are rebuilding their ranks unopposed. Celia Wird’s world is changing, too. My Thoughts and Summary:
Celia is doing better, but still healing and on the day that should be one of her happiest and all about the love, shifters attack. There is something odd about one shifter. Something is off when Celia touches it.  Alric doesn't want Celia to fight, he wants her safe. So when a new mission comes to light, and Shah, a powerful stone that grants wishes, is to be tracked down and kept hidden or used for good Alric wants Celia no where near it. Celia has other plans and feels ready to go back to work and Misha has no qualms with that.

Shah is an interesting entity here. He is powerful and used. He reminds me a bit like a genie, but not a living being in a bottle or lamp, but a rock with a personality. His power and time are coming to an end, and that last wish he could grant will be a doozy of one. So both evil and good are fighting hard to get to him. He could sway the outcome of the war between good and evil. However, the connection he makes with one of our characters is unique and I loved it.

All are struggling. After what they lived through with Anara... yeah, they are all going to have troubles. Each of the sisters are affected differently and are different now. Whether physically or emotionally (or even both), they are scared and working through it. The wolves believe no harm should come to their mates, no matter what. With what happened with Anara... they feel they have failed. They are all devastated.

We get to see more of other beings in the world. We learned more with the interaction we had with shifters and witches.

I don't know how Cecy does it, but her talented writing grips me and holds me there. I'm gripped to the pages and intent on having to know what happens next, what troubles lurk, and how will they come out of this one. Outstanding work. I love how Cecy remembers what's happened to the sisters, tying all the past to now without rehashing it all but reminding me. And it's all very important.

Each trouble that comes to Celia, her sisters, and the wolves grows deeper in depth with each instance. To the point I can't stop read. I have to see them through the whole book right at this moment.

I felt this book finished one major story arc, but there feels as there's more to come. We have a few threads with a few of the sisters and what's to come of... Well. I can't say that as it'll give away the end of the story!

In the end of this one I'm happy. And I'm hoping to see more of the Weird Girls.

Book Review: A Cursed Bloodline

A Cursed Bloodline

By:  Cecy Robson

Publish Date:  November 18, 2014

Publisher:  Loveswept

Format:  eARC (NetGalley)

Genre:  Urban Fantasy

Series:  4th in Weird Girls series; 0.5 Novella ~ The Weird Girls, Book 1 ~ Sealed with a Curse, Book 2 ~ A Cursed Embrace, 2.5 Novella ~ A Cursed Moon, Book 3 ~ Cursed By Destiny

Recommendation:  Oh my goodness. If you are hooked. OH MY GOODNESS!! YES!

Synopsis:
The Weird Girls return in another edge-of-your-seat novel from Cecy Robson! Just when Celia thinks the supernatural world can’t turn deadlier, a new rival emerges, proving just how dangerous a power-hungry were can be.

Since being cursed with unique abilities, Celia Wird and her three sisters have fought the most bloodthirsty preternaturals in the Lake Tahoe region. But Celia’s greatest threat is someone she would have never suspected: Anara, a werewolf Elder who has allowed his hatred for Celia to spiral out of control. In a play for dominance, Anara tortures Celia and gives her an ultimatum: sever her mate bond with pureblood were Aric—or Anara will kill everyone she loves.

From the instant they met, Celia and Aric have shared an attraction that cannot be tamed. So keeping Aric away is impossible, and Aric would sooner die than allow anyone to hurt the woman he loves. Misha, master vampire and Celia’s sworn protector, also finds his way into the chaos, seeking blood from those who have harmed her.

Now Celia and her sisters are caught in the middle of a war driven by lust, fueled by hatred, and destined to end in tragedy. For Anara is a force to be reckoned with, and he will not succumb without robbing Celia of those who hold her heart.

First Sentence:
I continued to stare at the tiny heartbeat on the screen.

Purchase At:
Amazon  /  Barnes & Nobles

My Thoughts and Summary:
Celia's family and loved ones are threatened by a close foe, but they can't know why she's doing what she is doing - for her to save them.

Wow! If I hadn't been in Celia's head, I would have thought the girl was going stark raving mad. Amazingly well written for me, the reader, to see that what Celia is doing has reason but that if I was in her sisters and the wolves shoes, I'd think her crazy!

Celia is always the big sister and trying to keep everyone safe. She's the protector, as her tigeress is strong and set the bar with Celia protective nature of being the oldest sister as well. But she needs to be protected too! I feel for this woman. Doing what is right and still put through the wringer. All that Celia suffers for those she loves - her sisters, the wolves, Aric... good grief! Celia's parents were cursed for their love, and Celia seems doomed to follow the family love events.

This book pushes every last character to their limits and beyond. Some may not return...

Heart pounding and heart twisting actions here. Things that people have to do for each other is just heart gripping. You won't be able to put the book down. I couldn't put the book down! I HAD to know what would happen next. How bad would it be? When would it get better? To get a taste of the light then have it pushed a little further away to work harder for it. Every event made me think this had to be the low point and it couldn't get worse... It does. But there are glimpses and drops of hope that kept me wanting more.

Life doesn't get easier for the Wird sisters, but they keep on kicking back with the little glimmers of hope they have and the love they feel.

Cecy has delivered with another outstanding novel. I was a bit worried about the anguish going into this book as the last was starting to feel strong with it. But this book pulled out and ahead of the game with where we go here.

Once again, I can't wait for the next novel to come out!!

And now I have a special treat for you! Excerpts!!! Woot woot!

This Excerpt is from Chapter 2 of A Cursed Bloodline:
Liam surveyed the damaged wall and the splintered glass and wood. I couldn’t tell him what happened. Aric and my sisters would be hurt—or worse. But I couldn’t lie to Liam. Like most preternaturals, he could smell a lie. So I worked to calm my racing heart and tried to gather my words carefully.

He helped me to stand once he failed to sense any immediate danger. His eyes widened as he took in my state. “Good Lord, Celia. What happened?”

“I was attacked,” I gasped, still unable to speak clearly.

Liam swept me into his arms, moving me away from the shards of glass. “Tell me who did this to you!

“Our . . . enemy.”

Liam sniffed the air. I panicked, thinking he’d detect Anara’s scent. “Wolves. Wolves have been here,” he said.

Wolves?“I don’t recognize their scent.” Liam threw a blanket on the couch and gently lay me over it. “Hang on, Celia. I’ll call Aric—”

“No! Liam, you can’t call Aric.”

“Celia, I have to, you’re hurt.”

My throat ached and it burned to talk. “I don’t want him to see me like this. He’s already
dealing with a lot. Please, Liam, just get me to Misha’s house. Emme can heal me there.”

Liam’s face split with guilt and uncertainty. As one of Aric’s Warriors, he was blood-
bound to protect me as Aric’s mate, but he was also obliged to obey him. “Celia, I know he’s in his own personal hell, but you’re his priority. He’ll want to be here.”

Emme is who I need right now. There’s still blood running down my back.”

In an instant, Liam was behind me, examining my wounds. I wasn’t a were. I couldn’t heal. “Oh, shit. I’ll get you to Emme right away.”

Liam lifted me and raced toward the door, kicking the empty boxes he’d dropped on the porch out of his way. He must have arrived to remove his belongings from the bedroom he and Emme had shared.

The bright sunlight burned my eyes. I shut them tight until we reached Liam’s SUV. The moment he strapped me in, he stomped on the accelerator and roared out of our cul-de-sac. “What exactly happened, Celia? And why did I only smell your blood?”

“I was caught off guard.”

Liam frowned. “What the hell? You’re always on guard.”

“I’ve been distracted because of . . . everything. Look, I can’t keep talking. It hurts too
much.” It was true, but mostly I was running out of ways to be creative with my answers.

“Sorry, Celia—I wasn’t thinking. I’m just trying to figure things out. Don’t worry. You’ll be with Emme soon.”

The relief I felt was short-lived. Almost immediately, he called the one person I dreaded
most.

Aric’s voice pulsed with strain from the moment he answered. “Liam, I told you now’s not a good time—”

“Celia’s hurt.”

What? Is she all right?”

“She’s not dying.” Liam gave me the once-over. “At least, I don’t think she is. But she’s
pretty fucked up. Near as I can figure she was attacked by a bunch of Tribe wolves.”

The Tribe were the evil band of bastards who had awoken the even more evil and bigger bastard demon. In stopping them, we’d decimated their numbers, but they were still out there—thankfully providing the perfect scapegoat.

Aric’s breaths came out fast. “When did this happen?”

Liam sniffed the air around me. “By the way the dry blood on her smells, about an hour
ago.”

Aric let out a string of swearwords. “By the way the dry blood smells on her!”

“Well, yeah, she’s still bleeding.”

“How bad is it?”

“Pretty bad, but I think she’ll live.” He shook his head when he took another look at me.
“Damn, you should see her. She looks like hell . . .”

I groaned. Way to keep Aric calm, Liam.

Book Review: A Curse Awakened

A Curse Awakened

By:  Cecy Robson

Publish Date:  August 18, 2014

Format:  eARC from NetGalley

Genre:  Paranormal Romance

Series:  .06 in Weird Girls series; .05 Novella ~ The Weird Girls, 1st Book ~ Sealed with a Curse, 2nd Book ~ A Cursed Embrace, Novella 2.5 ~ A Cursed Moon, 3rd Book ~ Cursed By Destiny

Recommendation:  A glimpse into the past when the girls come fulling into their powers.

Synopsis:
Discover Cecy Robson’s sensational Weird Girls series—or return to where the magic first began—with this eBook original prequel novella about four sisters coming to grips with their unique supernatural powers.

Celia Wird shouldn’t possess the ability to transform into a tigress. Her three sisters should never be able to burst into flames, heal wounds, or transform common objects into deadly weapons. And yet they do.

Before they were born, the Wird Sisters were cursed by a spell that was intended to destroy them, not endow them with extraordinary powers. The sisters’ magic is untamed and explosive at best, and time is running out for them to take command.

Vampires have targeted Celia’s sweet, tragically human ex-boyfriend Danny. The sisters rush to his aid, but in order to take down the vamps, first they must face their dark past and break a spell that’s screwing up their powers. Except this curse wasn’t meant to be broken . . . and the witch who cast it isn’t done toying with them yet.

Purchase At:
Amazon   /   Barnes & Nobles

**I read this for an honest review from the publisher.

My Thoughts and Summary:
Danny's desperate call for Celia's help gets Celia and the girls into action, days before leaving for their new home. Vampires are after him and his dad. A female vampire master has fixated on Danny's dad, feeding on him and now taken him. The sisters and Danny come across another vampire with the same target, looking to advance himself as a Master.

The sisters are determined and looking forward to the new move. They are growing and trying to control the touch of powers they have. The sisters don't want to get involved, but Celia wants to help the one person that has been good to them all. They try to avoid the paranormal world, but that isn't always possible. We see Celia struggle with her growing strength and control of her tigeress, especially with no prey to hunt. The stress of the moving have brought on the nightmares of her last hunt, and kill.

We see a bit of Celia's past with Danny, talk of their past relationship. Through Danny the girls learn a touch of curses and magic. He's been reading up on magic to help his friends, the sisters. And now, he believes the sisters are bound, holding their powers back along with their control of what touch they have.

This story touches on the girls previous experience with vampires and magic curses. The vampire experience is of both views, kind and horrid. Then the magic curse that was done to their parents, and them in turn. There is a nasty curse that is held over them. There is even a glimpse of what can happen to those that mess with the bad people of magic and powers.

Not the romance setting. But kicking on the action setting. The girls are a bit new on the fighting side of things, and it shows in the battles they get in. But I love that they are not perfect and are learning, even learning of their powers.

Cecy delivers with these sisters once again. They struggle, but fight strong and stick together. They are new to the fighting, but they fight hard. We learn more of the family curse set upon them, bringing a glimpse of the past with it.

Book Review: Cursed By Destiny

Cursed by Destiny

By:  Cecy Robson

Publish Date:  January 7, 2014

Format:  ARC

Genre:  Urban Fantasy Romance

Series:  3rd in The Weird Girls series; 0.5 Novella ~ The Weird Girls, Book 1 ~ Sealed with a Curse, Book 2 ~ A Cursed Embrace, 2.5 Novella ~ A Cursed Moon

Recommendation:  Oh my. Yes. You love the connection between Celia and Aric. And the fight to survive.

Synopsis:
Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other 20-something girls—with one tiny exception: they're products of a backfired curse that has given each of them unique powers that make them, well, weird…...

Celia’s a girl in trouble. Her heart is bound to Aric, but he is a pureblood were who must deny her or risk condemning his species to extinction. And that’s just her love life. She’s also been called to take down a group of demon terrorists looking to overthrow the paranormal world. (No pressure.)

In order to bring them down, Celia must ally herself to Misha, the master vampire who has made no secret of his desire for her. And if that weren’t enough misfortune for one girl, a clairvoyant’s prediction could destroy Celia and Aric’s love for good. The only way to protect the world from unbridled supernatural terrorism is for Celia to bind herself to her destined mate. And that doesn’t appear to be Aric….

First Sentence:
"Are you ready, Celia?"

*I read to this book for an honest review from the publisher.

My Thoughts and Summary:
Celia's staying at Misha's, training to be a valuable weapon for the Alliance against the Tribe. Misha desires more. Then Celia meets another that is destined for more. Celia's not ready for more with any, other than her mate. Someone is trying to kill Celia. Over and over again. This someone is percipient and insistent that Celia is to die as she is a threat to their existence. With all the complications and stress around Aric, Misha, attempts on her life, and sisters, Celia is ready for any mission she can get against the Tribe. But there are greater threats that will come.

A roller coaster ride of emotions with Celia, her sisters, the wolves, and so many more. My heart thumps for them, in excitement and in tribulation. But my thoughts in the end are always for hope with the moments we do see it.

Dang! I'm waiting for the NEXT story. I need to see what Celia does next!

I can see many different views coming from this book. There is a good bit of tribulation for the girls and many more in this book. It's good to see some come through, but not all do. The heartache can go both ways with readers in this series. This is the third book of the series, I'm not sure what others will think, but I'm thinking mixed thoughts will come about. I love the struggle, that love IS worth it. But there is a lot of struggle and some might be ready for that to be easing up. *shrug shoulders* We will see. I think there is a string of hope left for us to grasp to, while we wait for the next book.

I love reading these books they are full of everything in the Urban Fantasy and Romance realms. From the magic to feeling my heart bleed for them all. I'm holding out hope though. I have too. I know love is not easy and life creates massive obstacles. But to fight the way Celia and Aric have. Wow. This is some love for them.

Oh man. I love Celia. I love Aric. I love the sisters and all the wolves and weres in this book. Heck, I love the vampires too! But... Can we throw a girl a bone? The heartache I feel with Celia. Wow. Celia is struggling, but doing her best with her Aric situation. Part of me understands yet the other part doesn't, on how Celia's three sisters are accepted by the Elders and Celia is not. In this token, the were Elders irritate me. Aric is even struggling as well. Gods! This couple hurts and eases my heart as I read.

Cecy has left some breadcrumbs and planted a few seeds in this book. I'm curious to see how they play out in the future. There are little things mentioned that I am curious to see if she uses in future books, and with whom they are used on. Interesting. Nicely added Cecy, nicely added.

I enjoy the clear divisions and little ways of each supernatural race. I enjoy the surprising ways we learn of the vampires ways, yes Celia is as new to their ways as us so it's very surprising. Even the were ways. Interesting to learn little things we do of the different weres and of the mated bond.

Oh, I'll be waiting for the next book with Celia. Most definitely. I'm three books in and FULLY vested with Celia and the Weird sisters. I WILL be seeing them through to the end!

Publish Date:  December 3, 2013

Format: ARC

Genre:  Urban Fantasy Romance

Series:  2.5 Novella in The Weird Girls series; 0.5 Novella ~ The Weird Girls, 1st Book ~ Sealed with a Curse, 2nd Book ~ A Cursed Embrace

Recommendation:  Ooooh yes. You'll want this one. Something new evolves here!

Synopsis:
Meet the furry big brother that the Wird sisters never had…

Bren is a cocky, brash hound of a werewolf who loathes the idea of belonging to Aric’s pack—much less finding a mate. Luckily for him, no one can stay mad at Bren and his wild charm for long. And when some frightening ghosts launch a hostile paranormal takeover, Bren will team up with Celia to take down the evil ghouls before they hurt someone they both love…

Includes a preview of the upcoming Weird Girls novel Cursed by Destiny!

First Sentence:
"Damn it, Bren -- wake up!"

Purchase At:
Amazon  /  Barnes & Nobles

**I read this book for an honest review from the publisher.

My Thoughts and Summary:
Ghosts have been terrorizing the town since the Tribe appeared. The Pack and Vampires, unknown to the other, have been busy fighting them. Bren, the lone wolf friend of the Weird sisters, has been trying to adjust to being part of Pack. He's not doing so well. Bren antagonizes his roommate, Dan, to the point of a deal. To get a girl at the Watering Hole after work. Bren is very good at pushing everyone's buttons, even ghosts. On a visit with Celia, Bren and Celia have their hands full when a ghost appears. Thinking they are safe for the night, they head to the Watering Hole. Spirits continue to invade Ben's night of fun, keeping him on his toes and putting his dear friends, his Pack, in danger.

This book is through Bren's eyes. We do see Danny, Aric, and Celia, along with several others by name. But getting a book through Bren's eyes gives us a chance to see the situation among the characters a little differently.  We see Bren and Dan at their best. The great friendship here. We get Bren's view on Aric and being part of his Pack. We feel Bren's strong protection of Celia and the girls along with Danny. They are his Pack.

Bren loves to get a rise out of everyone and is great at it. I love this with Bren. The thing, after I think about it, he usually is telling them the truth but not in an over kind way. The truth hurts sometimes. Bren is a strong personality - fun and laid back yet fierce too. High on the testosterone too. Love him. Bren does learn a lesson, even a small hint of a lesson, as the day goes on.

The ghosts that pop up put Bren and his friend through some dangerous and deadly moments. The book gains momentum in the ghost plot as you go, and where it ends...well Surprise, surprise! I never expected that ending! Loved it!

We get thoughts on his friends and what transpired between a few of the wolves and the sisters. The thread of the series is here as well. We left A Cursed Embrace with some strong feelings. This helps give additional views to what happened and why. And Bren uses the topic of Celia to stir up some lovely trouble. It works so well here. We get to see the wide variety of emotions among them all as he visits and pushes buttons.

Could you read this without reading the previous novels? Well, I'd say no. This novella gives away Celia's relationship and why. But the story of Bren is of it's own. So, if you don't mind ruining your surprise with previous books, okay, have at it. But, you are warned.

I would suggest reading it with the series, in order. Bren is the friend that you expect trouble yet all that fun from. Enjoy him!

SEALED WITH A CURSE

Is he flirting? No, of course not. He’s probably just hungry. Men don’t flirt with me. They race away, screaming.

*****

“I came to see you.”
I stood in the doorway in the tank top I’d slept in and a pair of yoga pants that had been begging to go to the big laundry basket in the sky. My wild curls and I had fought. They’d won. I hadn’t showered, and I resembled something the wereraccoon was chewing on before he ran like the dickens. Yet Misha’s hungry gaze swept along my body, despite my hell-on-a-cracker appearance.
I leaned one arm along the doorway, my other rested on my hip in annoyance. “Why? Did you run out of virgins or something?”
Misha’s gray eyes flickered with stirring mischief. “If I had, should I expect to find one here?”
“Nope. We're all out, too.”

*****

Aric retrieved Taran’s shoe and handed it to me. It would have been an awesome Cinderella moment if my back claws hadn’t shredded through the leather and the heel didn’t have the wolf’s eye still attached.

*****

Aric’s strong arms wrapped me in a bear hug, his contact hard and gentle all at once. For the second time that night, his body heat encased me. My face fell against his muscular chest. My God, the aromatic blend of his scent mixed with musk from battle drove my tigress insane. Don’t purr. Don’t purr. Oh, Jesus, please don’t let me purr.

*****

Say something. Anything. Tell him you love him and want to have his puppies.

*****

I opened my robe and stared at the girls, mortified and convinced the universe hated me. If he had to see my breasts, why couldn’t it have been the perkier of the two?

*****

Luke Skywalker could suck it. He had nothing on Shayna.

*****

Koda’s butt cheeks were tight enough to crush wood with a single clench.

*****

“What troubles you, mutt? Flea prevention not up to par?”
“Don’t get testy, batboy. It’s not my fault you’ve run out of prom queens to de-virginize.”
“Wit is not your forte, dog. Stick to what you know―drooling, scratching, and licking body parts typically unreachable.”
“Damn, you are pissed. Did one of the angry villagers leave a pitchfork rammed up your ass, Drac?”

*****

Taran slapped his arm. “We all want to go home alive―well, you dead freaks know what I mean―so back off and quit acting like a little bitch.”

*****

“We need a phone. Or a working vehicle. Or a goddamn compass. Saving the world sucks donkey balls!”

A CURSED EMBRACE

A dead wereraccoon on your doorstep is no way to start the morning.
“I’m bored.”
Neither is a whiney vampire dressed like a naughty Catholic schoolgirl.

*****

“I flew in from Colorado last night.”
“Oh?” I sipped on my orange juice. “What’s there?” Besides the countless droves of weresluts you’ve bedded?

*****

“You act like I go out in search of danger.”
Aric counted off the error of my ways one finger at a time. “Vampire court. Storming a crazed vampire’s estate―twice.” He added two fingers on that one. “Consorting with the undead. Tracking an infected vampire in a stolen vehicle. And don’t get me started on getting trapped in a raging inferno.”
I crossed my arms defensively. “I do not consort with the undead.” He tightened his jaw. “Much.”

*****

Aric paused behind me, his voice a soft rumble. “Are you okay?”
No. I wasn’t okay. I’d fought a demon child following the discovery of four carcasses and a half-eaten woman. And now there stood Aric in all his hotter-than-hell glory making my female parts tap-dance to “Eye of the Tiger.” “Yeah. Totally.”

*****

For a woman in her eighties, Mrs. Mancuso was quite agile. She chased after our car all the while flipping us off. Emme clutched the headrest of the backseat. “Oh my goodness. Celia, slow down before she breaks a hip.”
I didn’t care what Emme said. A glance at the mirror told me slowing down ranked up there with mooning a weregator. We might as well have kicked our own asses. Mrs. Mancuso was a woman possessed by fury and ill-fitting support hose.

*****

The demon’s skin shone lime green. Like his brother, he bore wings the size of sails and clawed hands and feet. Except he had four arms, and four legs, and a tail as thick as a baseball bat. A white stripe of fur covered the top of his wrinkled and turtlelike face. He grinned with four very long and extra-pointy teeth. His tongue slurped across them as if he could already taste our livers. Somehow I thought we’d gotten the short end of the demon stick.

*****

“I want to be inside you,” Aric murmured between intakes of breaths. “I want to wake up with you naked in my arms.”

BONUS:
CURSED BY DESTINY

Misha had recognized Aric’s snarls just as I had. I’d heard them a thousand times out of fear for my safety. Misha had heard them on the receiving end of Aric’s wrath. I’d definitely experienced the cuddlier side of that werewolf.

*****

“Where the hell are you going?”
Vampires weren’t the friendliest of creatures. I muttered a curse and veered toward where Hank stood in the driveway. His black hair was mussed and his white-collared shirt spread open from the cold breeze. All the buttons were missing and lipstick marks ran the length of his excessively tanned torso. I raised my chin and adjusted my cream-colored sweater over my skinny jeans. “Go back to your room, finish deflowering whatever co-ed you managed to dupe into thinking you know Rob Pattinson, and leave me alone.”

*****

I jumped out of my seat when my sisters boarded Misha’s private jet. They smiled and waved, and apparently had been shopping. They slipped off their long coats to reveal matching camouflage tanks and cargo pants. They even wore army boots. I think they were trying for military chic, but the results were more like Special Forces Barbie. Taran, sat down like she owned the plane, tossed back her dark hair and started applying more lip-gloss. Because God forbid we take on demons with chapped lips.

*****

Maria held someone’s leg and waved it as she spoke. “Whose foot is dis? Oops—sorry, Celia,” she said when blood from the severed limb splashed me in the face. “Hello, I’m trying to sort here.”

*****

A jeep skidded to a halt next to us. Two sexy males stumbled out in their tighty-whities. Their dark skin glistened with perspiration despite the cool night air and they panted like they’d run with the bulls. Edith pulled the emergency brake, crawled across the front seat, and yanked each to her. She kissed them like her diamond earrings had fallen down their throats and only her tongue could retrieve them. The men staggered back when she released them. “Adios, Edeeth,” they both chimed.
Edith waved to her fans. “Addy ose!” She adjusted her thong beneath her tiny plaid skirt, snapping the back against her butt cheeks. “You freaks coming?” She asked without bothering to look up.
This was the vamp assigned to keep me safe from death. I pinched the bridge of my nose. “Yup. We’re coming.”

*****

Genevieve was the Tahoe region’s head witch. A position I helped her secure, though it hadn’t been my intent. She was a beautiful woman with dark brows, waist-length ebony hair, and blue eyes that glowed like melted sapphires. When she walked into a room and raised her arms, I could swear doves and butterflies flew out of her armpits. When I raised my arms it was usually in defense of the evil creature trying to chew them off.

*****

Misha glanced at her breasts, just long enough for her to notice he did so. I looked, too, just to see if he affected them like mine. He did. Bastard. And although he wasn’t even looking at me, mine tingled slightly. When the powers that be handed out the vamp mojo, I didn’t understand how or why “capable of stimulating nipples” needed to top their superpowers list.

*****

Misha’s eyes never left mine. He stooped in a crouch and charged. He was fast, but not fast enough. I spun him past me and sent him face first into a dirty pile of snow. The vampires gasped. Misha rose surprisingly slow and turned to shoot me a death glare. Slush dripped down his perfect face to stain his white silk shirt.
“Not as fast as you thought, are you, old man?”
The vamps jumped at my words with their mouths covered. Misha seemed oddly amused by my comment and laughed. However, it wasn’t a “golly, aren’t you funny” kind of chuckle. It was more like an evil scientist laugh complete with thunder crackling above us. Like shot from a gun, Misha attacked.

*****

It must have been a beautiful and magical place inside Emme’s head. I almost told her to give Tinkerbell a shout out for me.

*****

I had a major freak out. I had to admit, it was downright embarrassing. Misha cleared the solarium. Everyone regarded me like the slow village girl Dracula had unwittingly been stuck with.
