Sunday Post #84

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ug. I feel like I lost a week! I had really thought kiddo's track meets were over, then we found out he made it to the next competition to qualify for states. I'm so proud of him! But, his 4x4 team didn't qualify for states. Truthfully, he's okay with it as he's ready to be done with track season and start into football camps. Yeah, so I guess we don't ever get a reprieve. lol.
I've got to get to my posts from the last week and comment back. That's one thing I really pride myself on and try to follow up with replies, even if they are a week late. And I've got visiting to do as well. But I think that will be tonight when I get home and relax for a bit.
I have started a schedule of rotating nights between blogging and writing. And I actually started that this week. So I'm back to re-writes on one of my wips. I really want to get going and writing again, so that means I have to get serious about re-writes and get them done. :)
Next weekend I'll not be joining Sunday Post. Don't fret! I'll be back the following weekend. But next weekend (Memorial Weekend in the States) is Balticon. I'll be there and on panels all weekend, Friday through Monday. So if you happen go, say hi. :)
I did pick up a good bit o SciFi Romance books. I'm not sure if they are my type of read, but they were all free and I'll have to try them out. ;)
The Fit Booker:
Goal:  Workout in any form of exercise (or on Wii Fit) 2x's a week. (to feel better and hope to drop a few pants sizes)
How did I do last week... Well, it seems to be my thing, I got one day in push mowing grass. And! I did the dreaded hill my kiddo usually does. So that's a bonus in exercise! lol.
Received Last Weeks:
Review & Review Consideration:
Birthright by E.J. Stevens
Goodreads Synopsis:
Being a faerie princess isn't all it's cracked up to be...
Ivy must go to Faerie, but the gateway to the Wisp Court is through Tech Duinn, the house of Donn—Celtic god of the dead. Just her luck.
Unable to share her secret with Jinx, and with Jenna called away on Hunters' Guild business, Ivy must rely on Ceff and Torn to lead her to Death's door, literally, and back again. As if that wasn't dangerous enough, there's no saying what horrors lay in store within the Faerie realm. Too bad the Wisp Court is the one lead Ivy has in the search for her father—and possible salvation.
Maybe hiding away and dodging sidhe assassins isn't so bad after all...
His mild concussion might explain the hallucinations, but Eric thinks he’s going crazy. They murdered someone and left the scene. Now her ghost is haunting him.
Accidental Abduction by Eve Langlas
Goodreads Synopsis:
Abducted by a space pirate, she fights the temptation to let him plunder her goods.
A boyfriend’s attempted murder leaves Megan floundering in the ocean. Sinking without hope, the bright light she sees in the night sky isn’t her doorway to heaven, but rather the beginning of her accidental abduction by a space pirate. While thankful of his rescue, Megan stays true to form and just can’t keep her mouth shut, even when he keeps threatening to kill her--or auction her off to the highest bidder. Even odder, despite her decision to not get involved with her wickedly hot captor, she can’t help craving his touch.
Tren retired from his job as a mercenary so he could enjoy life, but he never counted on the boredom of normalcy. The acquisition of rare items has somewhat filled the void, but his accidental abduction of an outspoken earthling, who doesn’t know when to shut up, turns his life upside. Her fiery spirit draws him while at the same time drives him insane. Struggling with his urges, he must decide-- throttle her barbarian neck or ravish her delectably lush body?
Despite what his heart tries to tell him, he’s determined to sell her to the highest bidder even as he seduces her body. However, despite his best intentions, he discovers he can’t let her go. And when a foe from his past thinks to steal her, he’ll do anything to get her back.
Solia's Moon by Lyn Brittan
Goodreads Synopsis:
SciFi Love Bites: Quick and Steamy Futuristic Romances
When the creatures they want to liberate start turning on them, figuring out where the real danger lies is the only way to leave the colony in one piece.
A Viking's Peace by Zoe York
Goodreads Synopsis:
Thrown together in an intergalactic diplomatic mission, Reinn and Ashleigh know they must fight the burning attraction between them. But this Viking has finally found his mate in the beautiful Earth officer, and nothing else matters.
Mercenary Instinct by Ruby Lionsdrake
Goodreads Synopsis:
Skulking around in the ruins on a planet swarming with treasure hunters, slavers, and bounty hunters isn’t good for one’s health. But Ankari Markovich needs a few archaeological samples for her latest business venture, a venture that might prove lucrative enough to move her family off the impoverished planet where she grew up. Unfortunately, she has no sooner collected her samples than she’s captured by a band of brawny mercenaries. The captain might be handsome, but he’s intent on turning her over to some finance lord who has, for reasons unknown, put a bounty on her head, a ridiculously large one at that. If she can’t figure out a way to escape before she’s delivered to the lord’s home world, she could be forced into a life of indentured servitude—or worse.
Captain Viktor Mandrake doesn’t usually take on piddling bounty hunting gigs, but when his intelligence officer informs him of a criminal on a nearby planet, he decides it wouldn’t hurt to take a shuttle down to collect the woman. But Ankari Markovich is trouble from the start, nearly eluding his elite forces, then fighting and tricking his people left and right. He finds himself admiring her spirit, but according to her warrant, she’s a criminal. The safest thing is to keep her in the brig and ignore her until she can be handed off to the man who wants her.
But the situation grows more complicated when other bounty hunters show up, wanting to claim Ankari for themselves. Thanks to this woman, Viktor’s ship is in danger, his crew members are going missing, and he’s fighting enemies he never asked for in a jungle in the middle of a hurricane. He’s either going to strangle Ankari… or fall in love. Either scenario could get him killed.
Mercenary Instinct is a full-length, stand-alone novel of 90,000 words. It is part of the “Mandrake Company” series of science fiction romance stories and is recommended for readers who enjoy space-based adventure (such as Firefly) and steamy love stories (in the style of Linnea Sinclair).
The Ruins of Karzelek by Ruby Lionsdrake
Goodreads Synopsis:
Kalish has been a successful treasure hunter for years, relying on only herself to deal with deadly predators, impenetrable jungles, and diabolical booby traps. But with her father kidnapped, and a notorious pirate demanding an ancient alien artifact that may or may not exist, Kalish needs help.
She hires a mercenary company because she needs their combat experience and their piloting skills—the intelligence officer with the background in translating alien hieroglyphics could come in useful too. Sedgwick Thomlin is charming and handsome, when he isn’t busy sneezing at something from his long list of allergies. But she’s not sure if she can trust him or the mercenaries, not when the most valuable and coveted relic in the galaxy might turn out to be real.
The Ruins of Karzelek is a 95,000-word novel of space-based adventure and romance that can be read as a stand-alone. It is also part of the Mandrake Company series and brings back characters from the other books, such as Val, Gregor, Tick, and Striker.
Breath of Life by Christine Pope
Goodreads Synopsis:
Anika Jespers, a homesteader's daughter on a Gaian colony, thinks she's destined for a dull existence on her family's farm. But when her father makes an impossible bargain with their neighbor, one of the alien Zhore, she faces a future different from anything she could have possibly imagined.
The familiar story of Beauty and the Beast takes on new life in this inventive SF romance novella, with the Beauty a homesteader's daughter and the Beast an alien on a faraway colony world.
Novella: 32,000 words, approximately 120 pages
Noelle in His Heart by C.E. Kilgore
Goodreads Synopsis:
A Christmas romance with a Sci-Fi twist!
Noelle has made the same wish for the past six years to the angel on top of Father Nathan's Christmas Tree. All she wants for Christmas is someone with warm arms to hold her and who can understand that she has commitments - commitments which include the twenty-six children at the foster center she volunteers for.
Stranded on Earth six years ago, Steve and his crewmates have done a pretty good job of secretly finding a place in human society, but it doesn't erase the loneliness that hits hardest around the holidays. He longs for companionship and someone who will understand that his alien heart can love just as deeply.
    1. Hi Amy! Glad you could visit for a bit and enjoyed your visit. :) Hope you get to return in the future. Thank you, I'm very proud of him. He's done an amazing job. He doesn't always seem to think the same way, but I keep telling him he's only a sophomore in high school and accomplishing things that many others aren't. He'd done great. Maybe Ever Shade is still free in ebook on Amazon for you to pick it up. :) Thank you!
    2. No problem :D I don't mind paying for books so it's ok if it isn't free any more. He should be really proud though, a lot of people stop because they don't think they can do it, they have no motivation. Pep talks are always good and encouragement can go a long way to settling nerves :) Bless him I love it when they're modest :D It's cute!
