Sunday Post #52

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

Happy Mother's Day to all. Being a mother comes in all forms and we need them all. :)

*phew* That was one crazy three weeks. Sorry I've not been around, lots of family stuff. What have I been doing? Well...the kiddo has lots going with his last few track meets, training starting, and then we signed him up for a football recruiting scout program. We are thinking of his college years already. Then I've been helping with my grandma, my dad, and all between a sick dog with many visits to the vets and a husband who got his foot caught between a pallet and his machinery. Luckly all are well. However, it's all been rather time consuming.

I've so much to do. A very long list of loads of things to scratch off. I have a secret project I'm working and hoping to have go live the weekend of the 17th. *eyes calendar* I can do it. I can. And so many other things that need to be done before the end of the month, preferably by end of weekend but we'll see if time allows.

Review:
A Curse Awakened by Cecy Robson
Goodreads Synopsis:
Discover Cecy Robson’s sensational Weird Girls series—or return to where the magic first began—with this eBook original prequel novella about four sisters coming to grips with their unique supernatural powers.

Celia Wird shouldn’t possess the ability to transform into a tigress. Her three sisters should never be able to burst into flames, heal wounds, or transform common objects into deadly weapons. And yet they do.

Before they were born, the Wird Sisters were cursed by a spell that was intended to destroy them, not endow them with extraordinary powers. The sisters’ magic is untamed and explosive at best, and time is running out for them to take command.

Vampires have targeted Celia’s sweet, tragically human ex-boyfriend Danny. The sisters rush to his aid, but in order to take down the vamps, first they must face their dark past and break a spell that’s screwing up their powers. Except this curse wasn’t meant to be broken . . . and the witch who cast it isn’t done toying with them yet.

Cybrosis by P.C. Haring
Goodreads Synopsis:
For Agent Ciris, the mission should have been simple: get in, apprehend the target, get out. But when the simple snatch and grab goes horribly awry, the worlds first cyborg finds herself backed into a corner. At odds with her superiors, she becomes embroiled in two conspiracies — one intended to destroy her with a cybernetic virus that will neutralize the technology that keeps her alive, the other intended to keep hidden the untold secrets of her origin. With the walls closing in around her, Ciris becomes a rogue agent with no one to trust and only one objective — unravel the shrouds of secrecy before time runs out.

Walking Sticks: The Gift by Sharron Riddle
Amazon Synopsis:
When her best friend gifts her with an eerily realistic skull walking stick, Riva's already crappy life descends into terror. As if dealing with the local queen bitch out for revenge and her drunk mother weren't bad enough, Riva's "gift" has sprung to life, unleashing a spirit hell bent on stealing her body. A curse set into motion. Three possessed walking sticks, three girls turning to wood. Riva won't go down without a fight, but can she reverse the magic before it's too late.

Purchased/Winnings/Gifts:
Salted by Aaron Galvin
Goodreads Synopsis:
Life isn't better under the sea. Lenny Dolan is all too familiar with this reality. A Selkie slave in the realm beneath the waves, he has no choice when charged with leading a crew ashore to capture an elusive runaway. If unsuccessful, the loved ones kept behind will pay for his failure with their lives. But when their target leads Lenny and his crew to deeper, darker secrets, the Selkies are faced with a moral dilemma. Secure their own freedom at the expense of others, or return empty-handed to face the grisly consequences? How Lenny and his crew answer the question will teach them the harshest truth of all. Only through the loss of innocence does one become Salted.

Bite Me by P.J. Schnyder
Goodreads Synopsis:
Book one of London Undead

Few people walk the streets of London since the zombie outbreak, but that's not an issue for Seth. As a werewolf, he can handle himself and save humans reckless enough to take a nighttime stroll. While on patrol he comes across a group of people under attack. The one woman brave enough to take a stand against the zombies catches his eye—and not just because of her way with a gun. Learning the beautiful woman is homeless and fends for herself only intensifies his urge to protect and care for her.

Maisie can't help but admit that she's attracted to her werewolf rescuer. She's drawn to Seth's strength and ferocity, and finds herself opening up to him in ways she never imagined, even though she's determined to not rely on Seth or anyone else. She doesn't want another person to get hurt—or die—for her sake. She has enough scars, physical and emotional, from the last time…

But when Seth realizes something is drawing the zombies to Maisie, there may be nothing he can do to save her…

Tyrant Moon by Elaine Corvidae
Goodreads Synopsis:
It is the late Bronze Age of another world. Iron is unknown, only barbarians ride horses, and the stirrup will not be invented for centuries. To the north, the nomadic Skald roam the treeless steppes with their vast herds, while in the sub-tropical south the first dreams of Empire begin to be fulfilled.
Thraxis was once the most powerful of the Athraskani wizards, before the rogue mage Balthazar cast a death curse upon him. Now any use of magic only speeds the progression of the curse that is devouring his life. The Arrow that Flies the Farthest was the Champion of her clan, until the coming of Balthazar plunged them into the madness of warfare. Her only hope of stopping the war lies with the dying Thraxis, who alone knows how to destroy the jewel that gives Balthazar his power.
Together, Athraskani mage and barbarian warrior must begin an incredible journey that will take them from the civilized bounds of the Empire to the wild steppes of the Skald. But can a man sworn to do no harm and a woman born to kill find the common ground to defeat their enemy…before time runs out for them both?

Aetheric Elements: The Rise of a Steampunk Reality by Travis I. Sivart
Goodreads Synopsis:
Automatons and airships, bustles and beasts, corsets and curses, dandies and dastardly deeds, all await you as you explore the cultures which evolved into a Steampunk industrial civilization. Learn about the people who made history and created the events that molded a world into a near utopia, only to be torn asunder as the society was about to achieve the pinnacle of its existence. Enjoy a savory sampler of Steampunk society and sinister scenarios to whet your appetite for the author's upcoming full length novel.

This anthology of nineteen tales of terror, mystery, and adventure takes you into Travis Sivart's weird and wonderful world.

The Normans from Raiders to Kings by Lars Brownworth
Goodreads Synopsis:
There is much more to the Norman story than the Battle of Hastings. These descendants of the Vikings who settled in France, England, and Italy - but were not strictly French, English, or Italian - played a large role in creating the modern world. They were the success story of the Middle Ages; a footloose band of individual adventurers who transformed the face of medieval Europe. During the course of two centuries they launched a series of extraordinary conquests, carving out kingdoms from the North Sea to the North African coast.

In The Normans, author Lars Brownworth follows their story, from the first shock of a Viking raid on an Irish monastery to the exile of the last Norman Prince of Antioch. In the process he brings to vivid life the Norman tapestry’s rich cast of characters: figures like Rollo the Walker, William Iron-Arm, Tancred the Monkey King, and Robert Guiscard. It presents a fascinating glimpse of a time when a group of restless adventurers had the world at their fingertips.

  5. I like the sound of Walking Sticks-a bit different from the usual story you get in the genre. I'm not a fan of sci-fi but Cybrosis sounds like it might be worth checking out!
