My Thoughts and Summary:
*I read this book for my own enjoyment.

Kate and Morales are called in as consultants at a crime scene. A body with his limbs cut off. Kate knows the victim, Charm, from her days in the coven. Uncle Abe's enforcer. Charm's death could be the very excuse the covens need to start a coven war in Babylon city. Kate and the MEA force need to act fast to find the real killer before war breaks out, destroying the city. Kate also is distracted as Charm's death stirs old memories of her mother's death. Then there's life with making sure Danny is taken care of. He is a teenager, and troubles do pop up.

I love going into this book that I know each chapter and scene has something big in it. It may be dealing with Danny or it may be Kate's job. Or, if we are lucky something with John Volos or Morales. Oh John Volos. That usually involves a double whammy of work and sparks. And the same could be said of Morales. I love that Kate is working her way through raising her brother, which gives her a family feel as she stumbles through parenting like many of us do. Family and work are hard to balance, and choices need to be made. Kate does just that.

Speaking of family. Kate learns more about her mothers death. Wow. That's a punch to the gut. I like how Jaye left us with hints about Kate's mother at the end of Cursed Moon, and with this case Kate is drawn to the memories. Kate is determined to know what happened with her mother. I'm not saying any more because you need to read to learn what Kate learns. Oh, and what we learn from John Volos and Morales. Interesting!

Then there's Kate and her own personal life. She feels there's really no time for it with Danny and work. But Kate starts to open up a little bit here, for herself.

This book feels as it expands the world for us. There are other suppliers and covens that we learn about. These expand outside of Babylon city, but are a threat to Kate's home city and the way of life here. This opens up the series for us in a big way.

The book has all the elements I enjoy in one place and constantly has me glued to the words. I have enjoyed this book, world, and characters.

My Thoughts and Summary:
*I read this book for my own enjoyment.

Halloween's in two weeks. The full blue moon is the double full moon this month and has people acting all sorts of crazy. The police have their hands full so MEA, Kate's team, is helping to subdue events. Then things take a turn for a scary future. Aphrodite Johnson has one of her Houses of Worship robbed, $50,000 of powerful sex magic potions stolen. The hint of the Raven, new thief in town, they are looking for comes from Kate's Uncle Abe. The big show from this new threat is planned to happen on Halloween when the blue moon is at it's fullest.


No more introduction. We know Kate and her close friends, or those that she doesn't consider friends, well and get right into work. Yes! This is what I want. Jaye does remind us of events in the previous book as the story goes because those events affect current places of the characters mentally and physically, but we are fully focused here in this book.

I feel for Kate in this book. She's working hard to keep her family and dear friends safe along with keeping her big secret from them all. The guilt over the secret has her feeling worse and worse with everything that happens, and seeing John Volos getting all the admiration and love from her littler brother... which is part of her secret. It's eating Kate from the inside out. It seems like no matter how hard she tries, everything just keeps piling on.

This is what I wanted! Kate's anxiety and internal stress is growing and I can feel it. It's terrible to watch life as people react to what you did, but they don't know it was you. The good and the bad that resonate from it, the love and hate that's felt.

Kate and her friends. Her relationship with her brother Danny is cracking. Danny's upset with her not being around like she use to be, but there's more to it too. Pen knows something is up with Kate, she's been drinking more and gets a feel for something else. John Volos... oh he's a slippery slope for Kate. She hates him, yet there's something else. I guess that first love never really leaves, but you know it's not a good relationship. John's not as prominent in this book but he's here, a shadow in Kate's life and mind. Is he holding the secret over Kate's head? Will he act against her uncle? Or will John get in more trouble? Only time will tell. Then there's Morales. I really enjoy him and Kate together. They have an easy banter and sixth sense as partners when it comes to work. They trust each other and know how to work together.

Kate feels the temptation to read potion signatures and cook. This is the withdrawal from cooking in the first book. Just that one time has a pull on her. And she likes it. Kate fights herself and pulls through, but she'll realize that magic is a part of her. She has to figure out how to handle that. For me, I loved this part of the book. Kate faces her demons in magic and who she is. This makes Kate stronger to me.

Another demon Kate faces is her uncle. I love seeing her go toe to toe with the man verbally. I just hope she can stay ahead of him because there is a lot of work to do in order to not fall under his thumb.

We learn more about Adepts. We know they aren't suppose to be affected by potions. But in this book we see it happen. The double blue moon causes the immunity usually seen to not be as strong, and Adepts are struck with the same results as humans.

Yes! This is what I want. Police in a world that uses potions (magic-ly made). I am once again taken with how closely related the magical potions run to drugs in our world. The magical potions gives the story an urban fantasy feel but it could very easily be replaced with drugs from our world. The world is a bit grittier here too. A feel I really enjoy.

My Thoughts and Summary:
*I read this book for my own enjoyment.

This is the beginning of Kate on the force and in the home she lives in during the novels. We are introduced to Kate's world and what revolves in it to drive her on her path in life - her past, her little brother, and the city she hopes to help make a difference in.

This novella is before the series starts in the novels. It's Kate fresh out of the academy and doing her rounds with experienced cops before becoming a beat cop herself. Kate is gun-ho about doing what she can to stop the dirty potions that people buy on the streets, and ultimately kills them. Potions are like a drug and Kate wants to stop them, she knows all to well what the end result can be.

Kate's last round of shadowing veteran cops is on the river boat. It's boring, but Kate knows many potion dealers use the river for their transporting. Kate finally gets the aged cop she's with to act, getting her wish to move on someone she believes is dealing and mixing.

Kate gets some great advice from veteran officers here. I felt these were truly heartfelt from the experienced cops and worth noting. I think these are things that will stick with Kate as she works on in the years to come.

This novella is set in the same style as Jaye's first book. We get to meet Kate and those around her, and how her life is at this moment in time along with what her hopes are. Then we dig a little deeper into her work and get to the case.

This was a nice novella to get a glimpse at the world Kate lives in and her motivations. If you are looking for a quick sample, give it a try.

My Thoughts and Summary:
*I read this book for my own enjoyment.

Kate Prospero is put on suspension from the force due to a deadly encounter on the job. A man with oddly predatory eyes, fast running, immune to charms, and growing hair all over who's drawn to blood. This man was connected than Kate had ever imagined. Drawing her to an opportunity on a new task force to help clean up the dirty potions and the top of the chain of who's making and selling them. Kate was raised on the streets of the Cauldron and can help with her knowledge, and maybe contacts, to help find who's making the new deadly and dangerous potion.

First thing I noticed, Jaye's descriptions. Nicely done. Her writing feels to have grown greatly coming into this book.

We start into the world with a quick insight to a new potion and what it does to its users. We then take a step back and see Kate Prospero in her life, with family and friends. Her family is a huge thing in Kate's life. She has complicated...issues with some of her family, but her younger brother lives with her. Taking care of Danny and keeping him out of magic, whether clean or dirty, is her goal in life along with helping to clean up the streets as a cop. This is a huge motivator for Kate through out the book.

Then come to the team she'll work with. The crew is fun and I enjoy their interactions with Kate. Especially Morales who becomes like a partner on the beat to Kate. He gives Kate a hard time, but it feels as it turns into innocent picking on a friend a the book goes. They do grow closer as the story goes. We have the cool science guy, Mez, who's a wizard and mixes clean potions for the team going into dangerous situations. And Shadi, who I feel we don't see enough of in this book. She's part of the team but does different parts to the same mission.

This book felt like it was one that anyone who loves cop shows could read. The story didn't feel high in the magic field that others would be distracted by it. The story feels as though it's more character driven based on Kate and her wants and desires to do or not do things, also her complicated family connections don't help her but make her beliefs stronger in her mind.

The magic part of the story is very low key. There is no spells whipping around like Harry Potter. The magic is discrete and in the sense of mixing potions, which are similar to drugs. The making of the potions actually feels more science than magic to me, though there is a moment of magic in making them. The world of drugs and a dangerous city is replaced with the obsession with potions that can make you prettier, faster, to lose weight, to protect you, and much more. But! These potions come at a cost. If you over use them, which we see is very possible as people become addicted to them, you could turn colors like purple, or lose all material possessions with the need for more and end up living on the street. Or, the worst cost to potions, you could lose your life. And we do see this example in the book.

The story is well constructed in we see how the characters are lead to where they go. There are strong beliefs that they don't want to deal with, yet by fighting it they are lead to face what they don't want to. Kate has much going on in her personal life with raising her younger brother, it's hard having a teenager. But Kate also has to deal with a prejudice at the police station because she's a female and because she's an adept. There is plenty of action to go with the story after we get through the introduction phase of the book.

I was impressed with how well all worked together to create the world of potions and the cop scenarios. Well done. I'll be looking to pick up the next few books when I get money.

My Thoughts and Summary:

Liza is an average college dorm student. She doesn't eat properly, plays video games, and doesn't much care for her roommate. She heads out for a late night snack with her friends, Felix and Darcy, but each time she sees her reflection it looks strange. She sees blue lights, it seems to ripple, or look disconnected, and she feels dizzy. Then, the hot guy on campus, Fathom Burke, knows who Liza is let alone talks to her.

Darcy works at Turn the Page, where she's seen a strange woman come in and sit all day writing in her journal, drinking tea with her own tea bags. Felix decides they can solve the mystery of the woman and Liza joins him on his adventure.

Kristin is the voice of Liza and her friends for us. We get the Boston accent for Fathom and it seeps through for Liza from time to time, when she is shocked or surprised. We get an actual knock when someone knocks on the door. Cool. I am a fan of sound effects.

This is a gentle book. Liza doesn't have a terrible evil that is after her, at least not yet. Liza is learning about who she is and what she can do. The first chapter is spent introducing us to Liza, her roommate Ashley, and her best friend Felix. It was a bit boring as we learn what Liza likes. The story picks up for me with Felix and learning about his special connections. I even enjoyed seeing Fathom with Liza and learning his connection in the world.

There is a charming blend of video gaming and magic. Something that is a little different and interactive for Liza.

I'm curious to see who Liza is in the magical world and how she'll get her powers under control.

My Thoughts and Summary:

Anya watches the handsome blond dive and swim in the ocean near her family's island each day for the last five days. He's human, but comfortable in the water. Luke is surprised by what he saw so near to his boat. It couldn't be. But he knows what he saw. And maybe she has something to do with the changes of the ocean. He knows there is something with the ocean but doesn't know what. Anya's been studying the changes as well, and fears for her island and home with what she's found. Maybe Luke's research with Anya's will help them all.

Kristin's gentle voice easily transitions between the different people, male and female, with different tones and personalities. I love how she brings them to life for us. Kristin even voices an alarm when it sounds, a small sound affect for us.

This story has a mystery for us, with a purpose other than the romance that blooms between Anya and Luke. The ocean is changing. And more. There are light orbs that Luke's crew sees on their research boat. Then Anya knows where it's coming from, but she doesn't know what cased the energy source or why it's there. I'm really curious of the light orbs from the trench in the ocean!

We rotate chapters between Anya and Luke as they investigate the sea for the same reasons. The attraction between Anya and Luke seems to grow at a nice pace through the story, making it feel as they are connecting on more than a physical attraction level. We see each in their own lives and a growing attraction and connection between them as at first they see and think of each other then brought together with their concerns for the world. I found I was worried for the world and Anya's island because of the crack. The thought that Luke could help was wonderful. But then I worried that the truth of mer-people would get out and destroy the peace they have here.

Anya is a mermaid. There is a whole world and system to mer life we start to see unfold here. I really liked that at a moment of weakness Anya admits she had jumped the gun. People do that but she was able to stop before it went to far and pointed out the influences of it. I really liked her for this as she knows what she should do but what she wants too. And sees deeper than the physical separation of human and mer.

Okay. If you don't like cliffhanger endings, I suggest waiting for the next story to come out. This ends with a bang and I WANTED TO KNOW what happens.

I did enjoy the story and I'm curious as to what has happened in the sea and the light orbs. Is it in reference to the old stories Anya's people know or something else completely. I'll be waiting for the next tale, The Soul of the Sea, to come.

My Thoughts and Summary:
Sabina is returning home from her duty filled European trip. A home town that livens up at Halloween, New Orleans. Halloween is just days away. Gighul gets the night away from home and wants to hang with Sabina and Adam, like the old days, at Erron's for dinner. Erron shares news that his concert won't happen on Halloween after what his psychic bassist saw. And Brooks rushes in late with terrible news of a missing waitress who had a date with a vampire two nights ago and hasn't been home since. Brooks is terrified for the girl as she once was into drugs and, well, vampire! Gighul and Adam are ready to go find Candy, but Sabina isn't as gun ho especially after she learns the girl is an ex of Adam's.

I don't want to say to much and give the story away. I enjoy this world and seeing these characters again.

I was a little surprised to see Sabina was living in New Orleans, then not so much with the friends she made here and the thinness of the veil between life and death - with her connections and all.

Sabina. Oh I loved the evil and wicked Sabina. The saucy woman ready to draw her gun and shoot first. Sabina has grown and changed with the position she has inherited. And the people around her have loved her and it shows. Sabina seems to be managing well as head of the Dark Races Cabinet. Sabina has matured! She still has a stubborn streak, but she's learning.

We hear, see, names we are very familiar with. Michael Romulus, Queen Maeve, Rhea, Maisie, and yes Adam. Then we have the one and only Gighul. But there are so many more that are present in this short read. It's amazing how Jaye was able to bring such a cast together in a quick read.

It is so cool to see them all again. To see where they all went and became. They are all still the same feisty bunch we meet but time and life has taken each to a new level in their lives.

Definitely read this AFTER you finish the series up. The first page tells you how it all ends and the way things are now for everyone.

Aaaah, I've read the first two books of thise YA series and really looking forward to the conclusion of it.  Now seeing this cover, I'm reeeeeally excited for it to come!

AND that's not all folks...

She has agreed to write at least two Sabina Kane eNovella's!!

My Thoughts and Summary:
Days after the ending of Silver-Tongued Devil, Sabina, Adam, and Giguhl are in New Orleans heading to see Erron Zorn to talk him into helping them find Abel, his contact in Italy who knows all about stopping Cain.  But a wrinkle occurs, Asclpius the god Sabina owes not one but two favors to makes a dramatic entrance.  Asclpius is taking priority over killing Cain with his trump card, and wants Sabina to kill someone and return a magical item to him.  The ace is, this vampire's in Italy as well.  Sabina and her crew find their way to Rome looking for a man full of secrets...many of Cain and containing him, and many more.  With few leads Sabina has to find a man hidden away for decades and a gorgeous vampire, two separate cases.  The vampires in Los Angeles are rioting with out a strong leader, the previous leaders dead and one remaining turned tail and ran.  She needs to be found and convinced to return.  While the vampire system is falling apart can Sabina find someone to lead them in time?  Can Sabina prove she is the Chosen One, even if she never believed it before, in order to take care of Cain?  And actually make it through all the trials to do so?

EVERYONE makes an appearance in this novel.  Whether we see them or talk about them in memory, they are here.  It was bliss to be reminded of the people we lost along the way, and visit the memories again.  To see where Sabina came from and where she's come to.  Sabina has to do a few things that we would have never have thought her to think about a few six months ago where this started.  Sabina and Adam have some issues to work through in this book, and find a way.

I was happy, mad, and cried with these characters.  Then sad that it ended.  But Jaye didn't pull any punches in the end.  She laid it all out for us, rough to our hearts as it might be.

Jaye had to have known exactly where she was going from the first words of the first book, Red-Headed Stepchild.  Everything we (and Sabina) experienced along the way leads to this finale.  Whether to wear on us and worry us or to help us to the answers.  The pieces fit together perfectly.  This series all comes together as one and closes completely.  BRAVO JAYE!!

Recommendation:  Oh yes!!  Ruthless vampires, fun to laugh, and worries to be had. 

Book Synopsis:
Things To Do:
1.) Learn how to be a team player
2.) Find a murderer
3.) Save the future of the dark races

Now that the threat of war has passed, Sabina Kane is ready to focus on the future.  Her relationship with Adam Lazarus is getting stronger and she's helping her sister, Maisie, overcome the trauma of her captivity in New Orleans.  Even Giguhl is managing to stay out of trouble.  Sabina wants to feel hopeful about the future, but part of her doesn't believe that peace is possible.

Her suspicions are confirmed when a string of sadistic murders threatens to stall treaty negotiations between the mages and the vampires.  Sabina pitches in to find the killer, but her investigation soon leads her down dark paths that have her questioning everyone she thought she could trust.  And the closer she gets to the killer, the more Sabina begins to suspect this is one foe she may not be able to kill.

First Sentence:
Blue lights flashed off the undersides of leaves.

My Thoughts and Summary:
Three months after Green-Eyed Demon ends, things are good, bad, and okay... Sabina is drawn to a crime scene by the smell of fresh blood, only because she'd been drinking bagged blood for months now.  But as she's there she hears the coroner wonder of the lack of blood at the scene and obvious attack point.  Sabina suspects a new vampire, an inexperienced one at that, is now killing in Slades territory.  Then a second murder, at the Vein, pulls Sabina, Adam, and Giguhl into working on the case that Sabina doesn't want to be on.  Which all needs to be solved ASAP with as the treaty amoung the three races; Vampires, Mages, and Fey, is coming close to signing.  Maise appears to be getting better, on the surface, but no prolific dreams, but things are going wonderfully with Adam...or are they?

If you haven't read the first three books, I guess you could start with this one.  The main arc of the first three books has pretty much closed, and the threads still open are briefly explained, and carried on from here.  But I would definitely start at the beginning, so you see what all has transpired with Cain previously, and appreciate the growth and changes in the characters.

Sabina has turned over a new leaf, and is really trying to be a part of the group now, a team player.  She still has her moments where she rather flight than talk with her friends and ask for help.  But she has come a loooong way from Red-Headed Stepchild.  Sabina seems to need her friends around now and likes having them.  And even though she has a quick tongue with Giguhl she still wants him happy.

Giguhl has gone from Demon Fight Club to Roller Derby. lol!  That is just fun, and the names. Oh my. lol.  Giguhl and Sabina come back as a team again here.  There are a few touching moments where they talk, and then are the old team again.

We have many names from the last three books popping up here; Pussy Willow, Mac, Georgia, Errol, and others.  It's really great to see them all come together here.  But of course, you know they can't stay that way.... so what pulls them apart?  What happens in their lives?  You just have to read it.  Oh, we have full out action here, and some tragic losses. But I'm not telling you who.

Sabina is thought to be crazy for thinking Cain is still after her... And the Vampires have a new "Leader" who still doesn't care for Sabina, which might make certain actions difficult for Sabina. 

I enjoy reading the books of Sabina.  There is always great action, and so much fun for me.  I enjoy laughing and worrying about the characters.  Then reading the fights as well.  This one in no way disappointed.  It lived up to the other books in the series, even with Sabina growing as a character.  This one did have the middle child feel, only in the fact that it left me WANTING the final book ASAP. lol.

Well done.  I'm awaiting the fifth and final book of Sabina, Blue-Blooded Vamp.
