Monday's Beginnings (152)

And it's Monday....of course.  Can we ban Monday's from now on?

It's been a rough morning already.  All the animals were on the strange side this morning before the day even really got going.  Yea, that just cramps my day to start.

I didn't get a lot of reading done last week, and wasn't feeling well on Saturday so I vegetated all day...not really reading though.  I did however work hard last week to get some posts pulled together for the week long blogging celebration here.  My Three years Blogging!! Yes, I read this one but I HAVE to have the print copy for my shelves as well.  It's a keeper to me. :)
Exhumed by Skyla Dawn Cameron
Goodreads Synopsis:
Zara Lain, narcissistic vampire and assassin, cleaned up after a crazy warlock tried to build a vampire army, made some cash when the North American covens were left in shambles, got away when framed for the murder of a Demon Hunter, and dealt with some idiots who tried to jumpstart Armageddon. None of that could prepare her, however, for the moment when her lover of the undead persuasion awakens...

And promptly tries to kill her.

She’s raised a handful of orphaned baby vampires during the past six years and she knows the score: if they don’t get sane again, they have to be staked. And even if she can fix her would-be boyfriend, he’s not the only formerly deceased one in town who wants to kill her. Old enemies are back to put a cramp in her love life, ruin a good pair of heels, and just maybe end the world.

An apocalypse is nigh...and it gets a lot worse than having nothing to wear to the occasion.

Free on Nook:
This was the Free Friday for Barnes and Nobles, and I liked the sound of it for the kid, and myself. :)
The Lens and the Looker by Lory S. Kaufman
Goodreads Synopsis:
There's hope for the future, but what about the past?

It’s the 24th century and humans, with the help of artificial intelligences (A.I.s) have finally created the perfect post-dystopian society. To make equally perfect citizens for this world, the elders have created History Camps, full sized recreations of cities from Earth’s distant pasts. Here teens live the way their ancestors did, doing the same dirty jobs and experiencing the same degradations. History Camps teach youths not to repeat the mistakes that almost caused the planet to die. But not everything goes to plan.

In this first of a trilogy, we meet three spoiled teens in the year 2347. Hansum almost 17, is good looking and athletic. Shamira, 15, is sassy, independent and an artistic genius. Lincoln, 14, is the smart-aleck. But you don’t have to scratch too far beneath the surface to find his insecurities.

These three “hard cases” refuse the valuable lessons History Camps teach. But when they are kidnapped and taken back in time to 1347 Verona, Italy, they only have two choices; adapt to the harsh medieval ways or die. The dangers are many, their enemies are powerful, and safety is a long way away. It’s hardly the ideal environment to fall in love – but that’s exactly what happens. In an attempt to survive, the trio risks introducing technology from the future. It could save them – or it could change history.

(And when you've finished reading this, you don't have to wait for the sequel. The Bronze and the Brimstone is already out and getting even better reviews.)

So I was a little caught up with the Free Comics...
The Pack - Prequel
Barnes and Nobles Synopsis:
Experience the prelude to the upcoming story "The Pack" by Th3rd World Studios.

The Paranormals
Barnes and Nobles Synopsis:
In Edinburgh, Scotland, a demon hunter, Andre Jai, is sent to watch over and protect the peculiar and strange Jenni Mi Huen...or to kill her. He doesn't know which. Meanwhile a serial killer strikes and private investigator Mason Lynch is confronted with a decision.

The Awakened
Barnes and Nobles Synopsis:
(this is for teens)
Gabe had a late night craving for some Taco Stix®. His usual order was a sack of Taco Stix® and a large Cola Pop® with lite ice. So he was quite surprised when the universe added a hip hop spell caster and a demon who wants to kill him as well. He should have realized beforehand that satisfying his hunger meant enlisting in an adventure of biblical proportions. He probably would have eaten somewhere else...

Soulfire Dying of the Light: Beginnings
Barnes and Nobles Synopsis:
(can I say I love this cover! That's what caught me first.)
There is a plague spreading. Slowing infecting those with magic. Is there a cure? Is there any hope?

Spy 6 Teen
Barnes and Nobles Synopsis:
The debut issue from Sandbox Comics, Spy6teen-- which originally appeared on Zuda, bursts into an on-going series! CallyCalhoon wants to be a model student, but that's not easy when herafter school job is with a secret government unit called THE QUAD! Hi-Spy espionage before the first bell rings!

And how does your week look?  I'm hoping for a better week in books, but I think there is some stuff going on this weekend that might delay that wish.  Oh well.

Here's wishing you all the best in words and pages.
