So, now lets get started with our questions....

Discussion thoughts and questions from Carolyn Crane:
Which hero is the right one for Justine? (note: Actually, at the end of the book, I felt this was clear, but many smart readers out there differ with me on this!)

I actually thought a lot about the downsides of having a power like Packard's, to fully understand people's motivations and patterns. Sometimes when I was writing this I wondered what would be worse - telepathy, the way Sookie Stackhouse struggles with it, or Packard's total insight into people, even though he can't see their immediate thoughts or emotions. What do you think?

Do you like the gowns I made up in my head? LOL Just kidding. I spent WAY too much time on the gowns.

Robyn's Questions:
I kept waiting for Otto to be like, haha...I know who you are to Justine. Did you think that Otto was going to reveal who he really was to Justine? Or was he really that clueless?

Who do you think Justine deserves?

After reading the first book. What do you think will happen in the next one? What would you like to see?

Melissa's Questions:
Justine remembers Jordan the Therapist saying.  What do you think of the comment? When is good not good?  Is there a catch to this comment?

Will Justine accept what she does easier now or will she still second guess herself in the future?

Do you think there will be conflict between Packard and Otto in the future?  What about?

  1. I'm really torn on who Justine should be with. Both men seem they can be good for her and sometimes they seem to be bad for her.....

  2. I just kept waiting for Packard's true character to leach out. I mean I don't think he's evol necessarily, and I can't put my finger on my reasoning, but I feel like he's really going to piss me off in this next book. Am I the only one who thinks this?

  3. That's what I was wondering. If Packard is going to piss me off in the next book. He'll make me want to choose Otto....lol.

Is it really clear to anyone who she will be with?? Did I miss something??

  4. I can see Justine with both men. Otto is one she can relate to, how understands her and doesn't expect more than just her (damages and all). Packard is the one who is her opposite in a way, one who will push her and keep her going in a way.

I think Packard is the one she is to be with. Packard has told her through the book, he can see whats inside her and what she needs - not what she feels she wants. But, I think Justine needs to come to this realization on her own and to get past the anger she has for Packard using her.

SpineCracker - I think part of it is Packards methods to what he does. His outcomes are good, but its the way he goes about it that isn't necessarily on the good. Like tricking Justine into joining.

I think Justine is enought like Henji/Otto that, that is why Packard picked her. He even said in the end she would be his greatest ally or his worst enemy. Justine took a different path than Henji and came out on the right side.

But, I can see Packard making me not to happy with him. But I still love him. I think I like him even more than Otto. Although Otto is a great character.

  5. I do see tenion coming between Otto and Packard though. And the tenion will be related to work, but I think mostly because of Justine. As much as Justine wants to be with Otto, she still hasn't ruled out Packard yet. And now that he is out and free I think he is going to be more of a challenge for Otto with Justine.

Part of me wants Packard to win though. :)

  6. There is definitely going to be a triangle going on in the next book.

I'm curious to know how far each guy will go to be with Justine.

  7. Thinking on the question possed by Carolyn on powers like Packards. I think that one would be a hard one to possess. I was thinking as well that maybe some of Packards "righteousness" might be because of this power he has. He "knows" people on the inside. What they are. I can see already having this knowledge when talking with someone could make you sound smart with them. I think in part that is what makes Packard a wonderful leader type as well.

  8. I think the next books might also include the idea that The Therapist Jordan dropped in Justine's mind, When is good not good?

I wonder if this will be a struggle for Justine. She seems to learned here that there is a good result to the disillusionists. But when is it to much? Could the end still not be good with all the good around?

I think this is a great angle to take and I am really curious to see how Carolyn may handle it, if it is used.

  9. Oh!! I foresee a love triangle in the future of Mind Games!

Packard and Otto clearly are drawn to Justine.

I wonder how it will all go down though.

@ Melissa, I agree about Packard.

Really, I think Justine has some growing to do. What do I mean? Now that she is able to zap away her fear she doesnt not have the fear eating up all her time. She would eat and breathe the disease- reading everything about the matter and obsessing. Now she is left with no fear (until she needs to zap again) and a lot of time. Justine will have to learn who she is w/o the fear of death.
I think Packard is just the person to help Justine realize who she really is.
Otto- has the same frears as her that I dont think a long term relationship would be healthy for Justine unless he too learns to release that fear but I doubt he wants to zing ppl.

  10. That's true. Otto and her might not work since they have the same fears.

I also see Otto and Packard working together though in order to help out Justine if she gets herself in danger.

  11. Chasity, you are right. Justine has a lot to learn now that her fear is curbed a little bit. There is a lot she really hasn't realized yet. I look forward to watching her grow though. :)
