Who? What? Where? (46)

Who are you with? Where are you at? What's happening?

Share with us just a little bit of what is happening in the book you are reading, right where you are now.

Just a tiny taste of what's happening, remember try to not give spoilers of the book.

(This is a new meme I'm going to try and will tweak as I go. And please don't laugh at my lame attempt at drawing. ;D )

I'm with four men, all of supernatural dealings, in Narkane a supernatural neutral ground for all from different dimentions.  Listening to the story about the cockroach faeries!  I know, sounds bad but not really...at least yet. :)

Book Review: Aftershock

Aftershock

By:  S.A. Archer

Format:  Ebook, 9,000 words

Publisher:  Ravynheart Publishing

Publish Date:  October 2011

Series:  1st of The Rise of the Unseelie series; affiliated with Champion of the Sidhe series and Touched series

Book Synopsis:
The day the Mounds collapsed Jhaer, leader of the Unseelie Elite, sacrificed his strength, his magic, and his very life to save his world.

It wasn’t enough.

He thought that was the end of his story… Instead it is the beginning.
#
Rise of the Unseelie is one of the interlacing story lines, that makes up The Sidhe saga. Each thread can be read alone, but if you read them together in the suggested order, you will get the full experience.

First Sentence:
Jhaer dodged through the local fey crowding the market street of the village built up around the Seelie castle, thankful that his plain, loose-fitting clothing disguised him.

My Thoughts & Summary:
This story starts back where End of the World starts, but we get the view through Jhaer's eyes, and Unseelie leader's eyes.  The day when everyone, except Jhaer, is celebrating the union of Seelie and Unseelie and the day the fey world fell apart at his feet.

We get the other side of the coin here.  A thought is planted as to why the fey world crumbles and it could be the same reason the Seelie are celebrating.  Jhaer, having the Earth magic, survives the collapse and decides to collect other fey to protect and teach them how to survive with the help of Earth born fey.

This short story creates a bigger world.  We learn a tad of the courts and Danu's pick.  And of exiles surviving in the world without the fey help.  Jhaer has started searching for some of the Earth born fey, and finding them usually in tight spots, "saves" them.  This is where we learn of the sidhe and fey enemies in the world; wizards, vampires and changlings.

I liked the Unseelie story side better.  Things are not always "good" and you have to adjust with it.  The writing descriptions here seemed to resinate in my mind better too.  Jhaer has the dark, bad boy feel yet he is doing right by others, but to save himself too.

I read this at my leisure for my enjoyment.

This Week:

Bosun didn't seem interested in volunteering any more details, and Aysa wasn't interested in asking.  She was just glad to have some form of defense against the gang of Fae that wouldn't leave her alone, whatever it might be.

I did write a Flash Fiction last week, but not one of the best as I rushed it.  But you are welcome to go read it. :)

I don't think I had any special posts last week.

My WANT List...I added two books. Hmm, I think there must be something wrong with my computer. ;)

Books Received:
I've been wanting to listen to the Podcasts for this story, but seem to run out of time to sit down and listen.  I wish I could take it with me and listen, but things just don't seem to work right for me to do that...cell phone and tech stuff I can't seem to get to work.  So I was THRILLED to see he put it in reading format.
Goodreads Synopsis:
For Agent Ciris, the mission should have been simple: get in, apprehend the target, get out. But when the simple snatch and grab goes horribly awry, the worlds first cyborg finds herself backed into a corner. At odds with her superiors, she becomes embroiled in two conspiracies — one intended to destroy her with a cybernetic virus that will neutralize the technology that keeps her alive, the other intended to keep hidden the untold secrets of her origin. With the walls closing in around her, Ciris becomes a rogue agent with no one to trust and only one objective — unravel the shrouds of secrecy before time runs out.

So, how does your week look?  Hope it looks like a good one for you.

Me, yeah.  I'll be doing more running this week with kid and his stuff and preparing for holidays and going to Christmas parties.

Here's wishing you all the best in words and pages.

Now for the song of the week... we are in December right? ;D  I want to have fun.  So I'd like you to meet the Miser brothers....

Double Book Review: End of the World & Champion of the Fey

End of the World

By:  S.A. Archer

Format:  Ebook, 5,000 words

Publisher:  Ravynheart Publishing

Published:  October 2011

Series:  1st in Champion of the Sidhe series

Book Synopsis:
The day Lugh, Champion of the Sidhe, has long fought for finally manifests; all Sidhe unified under one Court.  No more Light versus Dark.  No more wars.  Brothers, one and all.  But on the day that should be celebrated as their greatest triumph, treachery brings his world crashing down, literally.  Now if he can't find a way to stop it no fey will survive.

First Sentence:
"The world as we have known it ends this day."

My Thoughts and Summary:
We start this series of short stories with the opening of the Sidhe and fey world here.  Things are about to change with an agreement between the Seelie and Unseelie fey.  As Lugh stands his guard as champion of the Sidhe Jhaer, of the Unseelie Elite, attackes.  Something goes wrong Lugh thinks its Jhaer with his Earth powers bringing down the building where their All-Mother Danu is.  But it's something else that's wrong.

This was a quick short read.  An introduction to a fey world set away from the human world of technology.  I read this one and had the feel of the starts of something more here.  This felt like a few chapters at the beginning of a bigger book.  Which the author has started three short story reads from this world.

We meet Lugh and his fey realm, then watch it crumble around him leaving us wondering if he can find the needed items in time to save the few remaining fey and create a new realm for them to live in.  And we get a brief introduction to Jhaer, but the story is from Lugh's view point.

Champion of the Fey

By:  S.A. Archer

Format:  Ebook, 7,000 words

Publisher:  Ravynheart Publishing

Published:  November 2011

Series:  2nd in Champion of the Sidhe series

Book Synopsis:
The fey are Fading.  Extinction is inevitable.  Lugh, one of the few fey to survive the Collapse, is already beginning to suffer the effects.  Only a long shot quest to recover the artifacts might be able to restore the source of fey magic.  And the first artifact Lugh seeks is dead in the heart of wizard territory.

First Sentence:
The enchanted gold dust spiraled in a vortex as if a miniature tornado spun within the vial.

My Thoughts and Summary:
Lugh has learned of where one of the artifacts he needs to try and create another fey realm is at, but getting to it could be tricky and dangerous for him.  Going to get the artifact Lugh comes across a beautiful young woman who can see through his glamour, but could possibly get him close to the artifact.

This is where we really start to see Lugh in full action; sidhe sexy and fighting wise.  Lugh feels like the "golden child" to me, which he is also named as for his magic with the sun.  He is the good boy always trying to do what he feels is the "good" and "right" thing to do.  Not that his heart is not in the right place, because it is but he has the "champion" mentality and hero complex.

It's a nice read in a fey view while in the human world.  This is a few chapters in addition to the first story, End of the World, which is on one artifact.  Lugh has a few more finds to go through.

I read these at my own leisure for my enjoyment.

Looking Forward To...(79)

There are so many amazing books already on the shelves and new ones coming out.

For a list of books yet to be released I'm looking to get, you can also look on my right Sidebar at the ever growing list titled Desired Reads - just scroll down. Of course there are tones of other new books to come out that are amazing as well, but these ones are part of series I have already started or for one reason or another caught my eye (and haven't seen much on other blogs yet). But I will highlight one here each week.

(mentioned in order of Release Date then Alphabetical if there are more than one book coming out on the same date.)

Next Book Is...

The Mortal Bone
Hunter Kiss #4
By:  Marjorie M. Liu
Due Out:  December 27, 2011

I have been loving this series since the first book.  I love Maxine and her family history, then "her" boys make the whole thing even better.  And we now have her boyfriend Grant, who showed up much more in the last book.  All great elements here.  Dark Urban Fantasy!  I love my dark urban fantasy, and this is right there with the best of them for me.

Goodreads Synopsis:
When the bond Maxine Kiss shares with the demons tattooed on her skin is deliberately severed, the demon hunter is left vulnerable and unprotected. For the first time in ten thousand years, the demons have a taste of freedom. And as the little demons grow more violent and unpredictable, Maxine starts to fear they will lose their minds without her. Reuniting won't be easy, since a greater temptation waits for these hellions: a chance to return to their lives as Reaper Kings, and unleash hell on Earth.

Flash Fiction Friday (28)

Dottie over at Tink's Place have come up with the idea for a Monday Morning Flash Fiction challenge. Each Monday a new picture prompt will be posted and if you choose to participate you post your story on Friday - 350 words, give or take.

I have to thank Blodeuedd at Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell for introducing me to this fun meme. I don't know if I'll be able to keep up with every week, but I'll give it a try from time to time.

The Image This Week:
(I did this one quick and on the fly, so I'm not really all that thrilled with it, but it will do for the week.)

I know I'm pushing my time at this school, but just a few more days then I'll move on somewhere else, or to the next school.  No one would ever think of looking in a dreary high school full of naughty hormone crazed teens for a demi-fire god, right?

These kids here are all just as petty and sex driven as the gods, but at least I wasn't annoyed with the family drama's; Athena is Zeus' favorite sparring on grandma's (I'm sorry, Aunt Hera as she wants me to call her) complete and utter jealousy of Athena, and daddy dearest being Hera's favorite, Daddy arguing with both Zeus and Hera on whether Zeus is technically "Grandpap" Zeus or not (no one really knows if Zeus is daddy's father or not - Hello!  Over run sex drive, just like teens.).  Then there was that whole thing with Hercules. Gaa.  Just annoying.  They always have the same arguments.  Instead I listen to humans fuss about their hair, clothes, and what boy or girl they like, and complain about their parents.  In all, really not much different than the gods, but at least I'm not in the center of it.

Walking down the hall I realize how much I like these little men here in on solid land.  They have huge eyes that caress my skin as I walk down the hall.  And when I smile at them, or give them the willing eye. Ha!  They almost swim to me across the floor.  That is always a fun game.

I'll go to this class today, I think that hunk of a quarterback is in this one.  I will have to see what he's doing this weekend.

With a spark of lightning from my fingertips I turn my grimoire into the book choice of the classes teacher as I walk through the threshold.  Pausing a step in I realize what class this is. Oh really?  Greek mythology. Ga, I roll my eyes.  Not any more of this boring stuff I tired of it already.  I could give them the whole life stories if they wanted me too, but then they wouldn't believe me.

Okay back of the class today.  There's my next victim, um date.  Mason Joe, yes not really that hot of a name but if you saw the long lean arms, and the ripped chest all the way down to the flat stomach on that boy, phew.  He was six feet two inches of pure handsome who could give the gods a run for their money, and I've seen some gods in my time.  And I thought my little sparks of flame where hot.  Yes, high school boys have matured so quickly over the years.  They've never looked so good.  I lick my lips and saunter over to the last seat in the row.  I've caught Mason's eye and he knows I have my eye on him.  He tells his friend bye, grabs his books trying to look calm, but he's getting heated up already.  My gaze does that from time to time to these poor mortal men.

"Is this seat taken," Mason tries to joke as he slides in between the chair and desk, beside me.

I tilt my head to the side to look up at him, and smile.  "Any plans this weekend?"

"Just the big game Friday, then I'll be at the Shack.  Will you be by Sera?"

"Mhmm," I sing the answer to him.

Then the door bursts open with sparks of flames behind us and a bellow of a deep harsh voice, "Seraphina!"

Shit!  I jump from the chair knocking my books to the floor. "Daddy!"  I extend my wings of flames, sending a shock through the floor to daddy dearest to slow him with a stun and jump out the window.  Everyone yells as the class room is two stories up.  But they need not worry.

Everyone ran to the windows and I disappeared from their view with the help of the clouds by way of my lightning touch, yes Zeus is my grandfather whether he knows it or not.  I had got his touch along with my father's fire, but I wasn't telling them that.

As I turned to fly away on my wings of flame I saw Mason standing in the window looking as shocked and pale faced as everyone else, but most important he stood with my grimoire in his hands.  Double shit.  I couldn't go back for it now, I would be busted.  I just hoped he didn't open it or all hell was going to come tumbling down upon this little town.
