Flash Fiction Friday (8)

Dottie over at Tink's Place have come up with the idea for a Monday Morning Flash Fiction challenge. Each Monday a new picture prompt will be posted and if you choose to participate you post your story on Friday - 350 words, give or take.

I have to thank Blodeuedd at Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell for introducing me to this fun meme. I don't know if I'll be able to keep up with every week, but I'll give it a try from time to time.

Sorry, this one was one I pulled together quickly, so isn't my best creativity. Thank you and hope you enjoy anyway.

Kiara heard the storm rolling toward her and closed her eyes.  She new what would happen.  Her eyes will change color to match the grey storm rolling across the sky to her.  The demon inside will take over and its rage will surge as her master pushed it to the surface in her mind to do his bidding.

She'll be seeing red soon.  All though she never understood where that phrase came from as black was what clouded around her vision and engulfed her.  However, she would see red when she came back to herself.  The deep red of blood and muscles from her object of destruction.

As expected the rain started pelting the roof, with the power of canon shots from the sky.  Even the sound of thunder sounded like the canons being shot.  This was her masters way of keeping the mortals in their homes away from the gruesome work she had to perform.  As cruel as the Storm God was at least he didn't take it out on un-expecting innocents.

~~~~~~
Opening her eyes with new sight, she - it - walked out into the pelting down pour of rain.  The rain slammed into her at first, but then parted as she bolted to the victim of the monstrous rage surging through her blood.  Their would be blood to pay the price for crossing the Storm God tonight.  Everyone thinks they can escape the rains, but no one ever has...
~~~~~~

Kiara opened her eyes, closing them quickly again jerking her head to the side not wanting to see the horrid display before her.  Every time, the first view, the sight completely, made her nauseous.  Never knowing what the demon would do to its victim, but always knowing it wasn't a sight she wanted to see.  Bringing her hands to her face, covering her eyes, she opened them again peeking through her bloodied fingers at the ghastly sickening scene around her.  Next thing she knew she was on her knees, body spasming, as her dinner was finding its way out of her.  With all the muscles, blood, skin, and bone splattered around the room, her vomit would not be noticed.  It would be best to burn the house down than to try to clean this mess, was a quick thought Kiara had.

Staggering to her wobbly feet, Kiara turned, walking out of the small house to a beautiful orange and pink sun rise.  Turning, she walked the muddied road out of town. She didn't know where she would go, but hoping the sun will keep shining.  But knowing the rains will always find her.

Looking Forward To...(54)

There are so many amazing books already on the shelves and new ones coming out.

For a list of books yet to be released I'm looking to get, you can also look on my right Sidebar at the ever growing list titled Desired Reads - just scroll down. Of course there are tones of other new books to come out that are amazing as well, but these ones are part of series I have already started or for one reason or another caught my eye (and haven't seen much on other blogs yet). But I will highlight one here each week.

(mentioned in order of Release Date then Alphabetical if there are more than one book coming out on the same date.)

Next Book Is...

Dead Iron
Age of Steam #1
By:  Devon Monk
Due Out:  July 5, 2011

I just caught sight of this book the other day, and I have to say it caught my attention.  So many elements here.  I'm finding I'm starting to enjoy my steampunk type reads, but this one has more added to it; magic, steam, and so much for.  Check out the description here!

Goodreads Synopsis:
Welcome to a new America that is built on blood, sweat, and gears...

In steam age America, men, monsters, machines, and magic battle for the same scrap of earth and sky. In this chaos, bounty hunter Cedar Hunt rides, cursed by lycanthropy and carrying the guilt of his brother's death. Then he's offered hope that his brother may yet survive. All he has to do is find the Holder: a powerful device created by mad devisers-and now in the hands of an ancient Strange who was banished to walk this Earth.

In a land shaped by magic, steam, and iron, where the only things a man can count on are his guns, gears, and grit, Cedar will have to depend on all three if he's going to save his brother and reclaim his soul once and for all...

Throwback Thursday (18)

Let's talk about those books already on the shelves, yours or the stores.

I have a post for books I'm looking forward to coming out;
Looking Forward To...
But what about all those wonderful books that are ALREADY on the shelves.
Whether it be on your shelf waiting to be read or on the shelves in the stores waiting for you to give it a good home.

So, I thought I would share a book a week that is just waiting for me to travel through it's world.

Now... where do I start? Lets go by Published Date on the books...

This Week:

I won this one in a pack of young adult books and thought it sounded good.  I've heard good things and well... But it still sounds good to me.  I will one of these days be able to get to all these books.  Maybe when I retire? :)

Goodreads Synopsis:
Quincie Morris has never felt more alone. Her parents are dead, and her hybrid-werewolf first love is threatening to embark on a rite of passage that will separate them forever. Then, as she and her uncle are about to unveil their hot vampire-themed restaurant, a brutal murder leaves them scrambling for a chef. Can Quincie transform their new hire into a culinary Dark Lord before opening night? Can he wow the crowd in his fake fangs, cheap cape, and red contact lenses — or is there more to this earnest face than meets the eye? As human and preternatural forces clash, a deadly love triangle forms, and the line between predator and prey begins to blur. Who’s playing whom? And how long can Quincie play along before she loses everything? TANTALIZE marks Cynthia Leitich Smith’s delicious debut as a preeminent author of dark fantasy.

So, I'm only on the second book at the moment, but I have to love these covers.  All are beautiful!

Who? What? Where? (21)

Who are you with? Where are you at? What's happening?

Share with us just a little bit of what is happening in the book you are reading, right where you are now.

Just a tiny taste of what's happening, remember try to not give spoilers of the book.

(This is a new meme I'm going to try and will tweak as I go. And please don't laugh at my lame attempt at drawing. ;D )
I'm moving this post from Thursdays to Wednesdays as I have another idea for Thursdays.

I'm walking with Meghan and Tiaothin from Meghan's room in the Unseelie Court. Now that Queen Mag has finally called to see us since our first arrival to Tir Na Nog, which seems to have been quite a while.  And I'm curious about were Ash is as we haven't heard from him.
