Throwback Thursday (76)

Trinity-college-library-dub-3 with blog title
I found this picture of Trinity College Library, and thought it would work for this meme with a little play with lighting and adding the words.

Let's talk about those books already on the shelves, yours or the stores.

I have a post for books I'm looking forward to coming out;
Unk
Looking Forward To...
But what about all those wonderful books that are ALREADY on the shelves.

Whether it be on your shelf waiting to be read or on the shelves in the stores waiting for you to give it a good home.

So, I thought I would share a book a week that is just waiting for me to travel through it's world.

Now... where do I start? Lets go by Published Date on the books...

This Week:

I read the first book in this dark urban fantasy series with fey as well.  And yes, I think there is dark elements in this one, and could get darker and better as the books go.  I'm very curious about Genny and the spellcrackers.com.

Goodreads Synopsis:
All Genny wants is to live the quiet life and to do her job at Spellcrackers.com but there's her tangled personal life to sort out first. She's being haunted by ghosts who want her help. Her witch neighbours want her evicted. Genny's sort-of-Ex - and now her new boss - can't decide whether he wants their relationship to be business or pleasure now he knows all her darkest secrets. And then there's the queue of vampires all wanting her to paint the town red - how long will it be before they stop taking 'no' for an answer and Genny's life becomes even more complicated? But when one of her human friends is murdered by sidhe magic, Genny is determined to find the killer. Her efforts to find the real murderer lead her to some of the most dangerous and seductive fae - but her search is hindered by the vampires, who have their own political agenda. Then when all the evidence points to Genny - she's the only sidhe fae in London - and she's named the main suspect; it's not long before she's on the run - and not just from the police - but from some of London's most powerful supernaturals.

This Week:

This one I DO need to get too!  I'm very curious about this world created, with the fae take.  It has a dark feel, and I do enjoy my dark urban fantasy.  And this is it!

Throwback Thursday (54)

This Week:

Oo, I'm so happy this one came up.  It too is a recent addition to the TBR pile, but going by publish dates it comes next.  I enjoyed the first book, and I really want to see where this series goes.  It's a fae thing. ;) I seem to be falling into that pattern lately.  And that's A-okay with me.

Book Review: The Sweet Scent of Blood

The Sweet Scent of Blood

By:  Suzanne McLeod

Publisher:  Orion Books

Publish Date:  April 2009

Format:  Paperback 363pgs, pocketbook size

Genre:  Fantasy

Series:  1st book in Spellcrackers.com series

Recommendation:  Yes, If you like gritty worlds of magic and fae along with witches and not so pleasant vampires.  Not everything is white or black here, there is loads of gray.

Book Synopsis:
My name is Genny Taylor.  I work for Spellcrackers.com.  It's a great job, pays the rent, lets me do the thing I'm good at - finding magic and cracking it - and the bonus is it's run by witches, which stops the vamps from taking a bite out of me.

Not that vampires are the big bad any more, not since they launched a slick PR campaign - oh, and they brought the goblins on board.  Now the vamps are sought-after celebrities, and Getting Fanged and taking the Gift are the new hight of all things cool.  But only if you're human.

And I'm not.

I'm Sidhe fae.

And I know firsthand just how deadly a vampire can be.

First Sentence:
The vampire looked a beautiful, dangerous cliche.

My Thoughts and Summary:
I liked Genny's character as well. She kept me guessing through out the book and wondering about her and what she was going to do. But at the same time she had me a little confused....

Curious about my thoughts and want to read more?  Hop over to WonderBunnys blog Cookies, Books and Bikes as her and I teamed up for our first joint review.   Please jump over there to read our thoughts on the book.  We had a great chat on a few wonderful points of the book.  Hope you enjoy the review!  And feel free to say hello in the comments there.

Who? What? Where? (17)

Who are you with? Where are you at? What's happening?

Share with us just a little bit of what is happening in the book you are reading, right where you are now.

Just a tiny taste of what's happening, remember try to not give spoilers of the book.

(This is a new meme I'm going to try and will tweak as I go. And please don't laugh at my lame attempt at drawing. ;D )
I'm moving this post from Thursdays to Wednesdays as I have another idea for Thursdays.

Genny and I are sitting in her room.  Finn has just shared he knows our biggest secret that only a tiny well trusted few know of.  And the police are now here, starring at me from the door with Finn.  Our job may be gone now...
