Sunday Post #150

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For the last month I've been meaning to post a Sunday post. Sorry. It's been a whirlwind of all sorts of go-go-go. I'd planned on posting a few reviews this past month, but life had other ideas - Kiddo, dogs, father, cars, holiday traveling, and even a cold/sinuses.
Kiddo had 2 college tours recently, one of which was at a local college. We were there 2 hours and it was one of the best one-on-one tours at this local college. I wasn't sure this college would have what Kiddo wanted, but they did! Was very good.  After the second college, we came up with more questions for the local college Kiddo seems to be set on. So we went to visit the school again, to talk to professors since he wants to double major and the football coach.
I did participate in NaNoWriMo. And that felt crazy too. We had so much going on that there were a total of eleven days I didn't write a word. Unreal!
I even got a chance to sneak in the four new Gilmore Girls shows on Netflix.
Spellbound in a Flash:
This week I didn't post with working on writing. Sorry!
Challenged Writers:
I shared my November NaNoWriMo update.
Around the Internet...
Reviews:
Veil of Shadows by Terry Mixon
"...this story/series (so far) has everything I love in one nice, neat package. Sweet find!"
Destroyer of Worlds by J.F. Penn
"Another thing, other than the story/plot writing that holds my attention is the characters."
"Time is a tricky topic, and could be discussed in many angles for hours. The concept of time travel, daily reminders, slices of time, and much more are interesting concepts. They feel like topics I could debate and discuss with friends, based on the world created here."
Stolen Magic by Linsey Hall
"This book feels to up the anty with danger and what Cass has to face, personally, mentally, and danger wise of the whole town with the Monster."
The Cryptic Lines by Richard Storry
"If Richard were to be the creator of a mystery night or party to search for clues, I would TOTALLY be there! I was taken by the crafty design of the hidden clues for Charles and Matthew to follow. I really had no idea where the clues would take us and what Charles and Matthew would have to do to get to the next clue."
Tempered Hearts by Starla Huchton
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
The war against corrupted monsters from the Void may have ended, but much remains broken in Valentia, including its reluctant monarch. To save the kingdom from the destruction of civil war, Darius Marillion had to sacrifice his heart, agreeing to a marriage of convenience over one of love.
Lady Arden Tanarian was born to wealth, bred to be a fine wife to a high lord. Despite her mother's best efforts, however, her passion for the decidedly unladylike fields of chemistry and elvish culture marks her as a different breed of woman. Though she's always been able to see the bright side of things, Arden's hopes for her life with the dashing, but sullen prince crumble around her in learning where his heart truly lies.
Dubbed The Light of Valentia, Arden has a mystifying effect on the world around her. She inspires something in people— including Darius— that he thought he'd never feel again: Hope.
Bonds of the heart forged in battle are strong, but time changes much. When the flames of war fade to low embers, peace in a kingdom can reveal love in the most unexpected places.
Sorceress Rising by Lisa Blackwood
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
Ignorance nearly killed Lillian once.
That time, she’d known nothing of magic until Gregory, her Gargoyle Protector, awoke from his stone sleep and saved her from demons escaped from the Magic Realm. They defeated the demonic Riven at great personal cost, one which forced them both to hibernate for months while they mended.
Healed, Lillian wakes to a world greatly changed, one where her sleepy northern town has been overrun by military, scientists, and paparazzi. Apparently, her battle with the Riven did not go completely unnoticed, and her actions put her Coven family at risk of exposure.
These new tensions unearth another concern. Lillian and Gregory may be one being in the Spirit Realm, soul mates in the most literal sense, but it does not guarantee a perfect accord here on earth, especially when Gregory’s clearly defined sense of good and evil urge him to eradicate anyone he deems as evil—which, to her dismay, includes a good chunk of humanity.
But their troubles are not limited to humans, not when another, older power rises from the ocean’s depths. Tethys, a siren of the ancient world, has her own plans for Gregory. For the first time in their many lives, Lillian finds herself at odds with her other half.
And if she does not master her own magic, this battle will become her greatest defeat.
Author's Note: Sorceress Rising was previously published as Stone’s Song and was part of the Urban Fantasy series called The Avatars.
Clockwork Twist: Waking by Emily Thompson
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
Twist has never left London, until today. Now he's traveling on an airship--with a crew that insists they're not pirates--on his way to find the clockwork princess because he's the only one who can fix her.
In true Neo-Victorian style, Clockwork Twist is set in a lush and vibrant world where things are as you might expect in 1878. That is, of course, if fantastic creatures like djinn, faeries, kitsunes and vampires were commonplace. An increasing number of people are being born with supernatural senses, called Sights. While airship tourism is sweeping the globe, air-piracy is also on the rise.
Twist is among the Sighted, but his Sight is unusual. While others might be able to see and hear over great distances, find anything they can imagine anywhere in the world, or even recognize every type of flower by scent alone, Twist's Sight shows him only damage. Whenever he touches a broken clock or machine, he can instantly understand the damage and can fix it easily. If he touches a person, even for a moment, his mind fills with a terrible vision of whatever trauma or pain once broke them. Naturally, he's chosen a solitary existence and shuns all human contact.
Unfortunately, thanks to his seclusion, Twist is also unfamiliar with everything beyond his own clock shop, hidden away on a quiet and ever-drizzly London street. When a treasure hunter arrives at his door with proof that they have found the fabled clockwork princess--Twist's favorite old fairy tale--it's up to Twist alone to bring her back to life.
  4. You certainly had a hectic November. Glad the college tour went well and that it looks as though you might have found something that ticks all the boxes. Hope that December allows you to draw breath, somewhat...
    1. Thank you sjhigbee. It was definitely crazy, and it's not looking like it'll slow anytime soon. *sigh* Yea, he seems to be pleased with the college. We'll see how it all shacks out in the end, but we have a feeling which one it'll be. ;) Thank you!
    1. Oh Blodeuedd. The nights I caught up on GG were some late nights. I don't usually stay up that late, but being a veggie as I was exhausted with the family visiting, it made it easier. :) Enjoy the rest of GG!
  7. I read Linsey Hall's Ancient Magic and it was a decent read along with Lisa Blackwood's Sorceress Awakening so I plan to continue with both series. I think I have something by Simone Pond on my ereader. The Age of Mages sounds interesting.
    1. Chuckles, I liked Linsey Hall's books because it was good clean fun. Nothing stressful to read but something I could relax with. The stories are good and I like the moral compass on the characters. :) I still need to get to Lisa Blackwood's books. Have a good week!
