Sunday Post #110

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.And another week has passed riding the winds. Crazy! I don't know where all the time has been spent! And it's ALMOST CHRISTMAS!!!!
Are you ready for Christmas? I know I'm not. I think I'm going to be one of those people finishing up Christmas Eve. I never do that. But with the way time has been going with kiddo and therapy, I might after work make a stop or two. I hate doing that as I think everyone should have off to enjoy time with their family, but it might happen. *sigh*
So the week... As you can probably tell, I don't know what I've been doing and haven't gotten anything done. lol.
I think I won't be posting for the next two weeks. I don't think it's fair to the amazing books I'll be sharing and that I can't visit with the go-go-go of the holidays. So I'll be back in the new year with many great reviews for you!
Earth's Requiem by Ann Gimpel
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
Resilient, kickass, and determined, Aislinn's walled herself off from anything that might make her feel again. Until a wolf picks her for a bond mate and a Celtic god rises out of legend to claim her for his own.
Aislinn Lenear lost her anthropologist father high in the Bolivian Andes. Her mother, crazy with grief that muted her magic, was marched into a radioactive vortex by dark creatures and killed. Three years later, stripped of every illusion that ever comforted her, twenty-two year old Aislinn is one resilient, kickass woman with a take no prisoners attitude. In a world turned upside down, where virtually nothing familiar is left, she’s conscripted to fight the dark gods responsible for her father’s death. Battling evil on her own terms, Aislinn walls herself off from anything that might make her feel again in this compelling dystopian urban fantasy.
Fionn MacCumhaill, Celtic god of wisdom, protection, and divination has been laying low since the dark gods stormed Earth. He and his fellow Celts decided to wait them out. After all, three years is nothing compared to their long lives. On a clear winter day, Aislinn walks into his life and suddenly all bets are off. Awed by her courage, he stakes his claim to her and to an Earth he's willing to fight for.
Aislinn’s not so easily convinced. Fionn’s one gorgeous man, but she has a world to save. Emotional entanglements will only get in her way. Letting a wolf into her life was hard. Letting love in may well prove impossible.
Witch Wood by Melanie Karsak
Goodreads Synopsis:
Harm none, and be ready for zombies.
In the little town of Brighton, Amelia’s practice of Wicca makes her an outcast in school and the subject of disdain at home. But Amelia can’t change what she is. Knowing how to use herbs, see auras, and create spells comes naturally to her. Only Madame Knightly, the ancient matriarch and owner of Witch Wood Estate to whom Amelia plays caretaker, doesn’t seem to mind her conjoining. In fact, the library in the crumbling old mansion is full of old books and oddities.
However, when modern treatments fail to make a dent in the flu outbreak sweeping the globe, those who once ridiculed her white witchcraft turn to Amelia for help. While her eucalyptus tinctures prove no more effective than western medicine, her spell-casting is another matter. The residents of Brighton soon depend on the very magic they once ridiculed to save their lives.
** Witch Wood is a tie-in novella that complements The Harvesting Series. It can be read as a stand-alone or as Book 2.5 in the series **
His Dark Empire by M.R. Forbes
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
They said he was a cruel and unfair man, that he could never die, and that he had ruled over us for as long as anyone could remember. They said that he made slaves of innocents, that he hunted the magically gifted, and that he named them Cursed for the tears of blood they shed. They said he claimed the ones who lingered, and killed the ones who ran.
Eryn didn’t know why she ran, except that she had promised she would survive. She didn’t know the dangers of his roads, or of the monsters that lurked beyond her imagination. She would never have guessed how much she would lose… or how much she could gain.
Silas didn’t know who he was, except that he was a murderer. Destitute, alone, and imprisoned, he couldn’t grasp the depths of the memories he had forgotten, or understand exactly how much he had lost... or how much he could gain.
It could not have been foretold how his actions would change their lives, or how their lives would change the fate of his.
For nothing was as it would seem in his dark Empire.
William decides to join an underground rebel alliance to end the Repatterning and save what’s left of civilization.
Complication by K.A. Salidas
Goodrads Synopsis:
Narrowly escaping death at the hands of the Magistrate, Mira travels west, toward the coast. With three weakened human fugitives accompanying her, she searches for the mythical land of Sanctuary.
After encountering a pack of wolf shifters, headed by the charismatic—and brazen—Stryker, Mira learns that Sanctuary is real after all. Caldera Grove: home of the Otherkin. Hidden in the mouth of a dormant volcano, it has protected its residents from humans since the early days following the great cataclysm. For Mira— a vampire— Caldera Grove is a land of peace; an escape from the relentless persecution of the humans who once enslaved her, and an end to the daily struggle and bloodshed of being a gladiator.
For the humans accompanying her, Caldera Grove means death. Humans, greedy and untrustworthy creatures, are destroyed before they can penetrate its borders.
To plead her case for entry into Caldera, Mira must abandon her companions, albeit temporarily, and follow Stryker into the heart of the city. What she finds within Caldera Grove presents her with an unenviable decision between her own desires for freedom and peace, or honor and the human companions who risked it all for her.
Dragons of Vkani by Aurora Springer
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
This Science Fiction romance is set on the two remote planets of Eden and Vkani. Peaceful Eden has an independent colony of Terrans and a small population of Atrapako. The alien Atrapako sport spiky crests, sharp claws, and scales covering massive humanoid bodies. Their scales come in one of four colors, representing their traditional class system. The meeting and adventures of the Blue, Sa Kamizan Veedak, and Dr. Lucy Stannis are described in the first Book “The Lady is Blue.”
The happy family life of Sa Kamizan and Lucy Stannis is interrupted when the Space Traders bring a distress signal from his sister, Veela. They must travel to the hostile Atrapako planet of Vkani to rescue Veela, the Dragon Lady of Ravenak. In a radical break from tradition, Sa Kamizan befriends two Reds, the Ziggurak brothers, from the unnamed, dispensable soldier/laborer class. The rescue mission is combined with a scientific expedition led by Dr. Jun Danzho and Te Tamarkis Varenne to probe the Deadlands for evidence of Lucy’s hypothesis of an ancient nuclear holocaust. The rescue teams encounter new friends and deadly foes in the hostile, barbaric environment where warlords wage battles amid ferocious sandstorms. In their search across the inhabited continent, Sa Kamizan demonstrates his prowess with a sword, while Lucy employs explosives, and, of course, the dragons, as they combat treachery by power-hungry Blues.
The Infernal Aether by Peter Oxley
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
In the Fifteenth Century, the Aether held the universe together. In the Nineteenth Century, it just might tear it apart.
Augustus Merriwether Potts is a man with a dark past and an uncertain future. A failed writer, ignored by his peers and squandering the last of a sizeable inheritance, he is forced to rely on the charity of his brother, an erratic genius inventor. A chance encounter with a
mysterious stranger known only as N'yotsu sparks off a breathtaking series of remarkable events which will push their abilities to the very limits, as they encounter a bizarre realm of malevolent power: The Infernal Aether.
The Infernal Aether is the debut historical sci-fi/fantasy novel by Pete Oxley. Drawing inspiration from such writers as H.G. Wells, Arthur Conan Doyle, and K.W. Jeter, Pete Oxley has created a concept blending Victorian Era science fiction, adventure, fantasy, and horror, with a Wellsian Jekyll/Hyde duality theme and a chaotic Lovecraftian evil.
