I have to say I like the look and the sounds of this.  I like magic with a bite of grit to it, and this sounds like it.  What do you think?

Cover Release! The Resurrectionist

Didn't know if any of you had heard of this yet or not.  I found this on the author, Devyn Quinn, site.  Devyn has written books in different areas; mermaids, vampires, shapeshifters and now Steampunk!!  I love the sounds of it, and its steampunk! :D

Sound good?  Well, there is a vampire mixed in this steampunk world.  I think it sounds like an amazing read, mystery and romance, and so much more!

I read the first book of another trilogy by Devyn Quinn and really enjoyed what she created in the book with mermaids.  And I enjoyed her writing.  So, while looking around her site I saw she had this new book to be released in August.  It sounded like one I would enjoy.

Cover Release

Devyn Quinn announced over the weekend the cover for her third and final book in the Dark Tides Trilogy.  With mermaids!

I read the first book and really enjoyed it.  Review HERE.  I'm needing to get the second book which is from Tessa's view, Gwen's sister.

Interview & Giveaway with Devyn Quinn

I have an interview with a wonder author for you today.  Had you seen the book I was reading that had Mermaids in it?  Siren's Call was the name of it.  Well, today's interview is with the author, Devyn Quinn!  And if you read through to the end, I think there is a Giveaway!

M:  Hi Devyn.  Thank you for doing the interview today.  And I am thrilled to be on your virtual tour this month for the second book in your Dark Tides series.

DQ:  Thanks for having me today. I’m delighted to be here.

M:  Is there just a little bit you can tell us about your novels to let the new comers to the series know about Tessa, Gwen, Addison, and Kenneth?

DQ:  The Dark Tides series centers around three mermaid sisters and their search to discover where the Mer might have come for, and the reasons behind their extinction.

M:  I think one of the big attractions to the series is the idea of Mermaids.  I haven’t read anything until now with mermaids as the main characters.  And it seems many people fall into the same category.  What brought you to mermaids?

DQ:  Lindsay Nouis at NAL was looking for dark material and had contacted my agent. I actually submitted another proposal, but Lindsay wasn’t looking at vampires at the time. She wanted mermaids. On a whim, I wrote up a proposal and submitted it through my agent. I wasn’t really expecting to sell it. I had just thought maybe it would open the doors to having NAL look at some of my material at a later date. Imagine my surprise the proposal sold.

M:  In your Bio you mention you spend a lot of time reading history.  What kind of history really interests you the most?  Does this help in your writing? 

DQ:  Oh, definitely. Even though I write fiction, I try to do as much research as I can so that any subject I write about will at least have some roots in reality.

M:  I also saw on your bio you have several tattoos and one special one on your back {I’m sorry I’m guessing that is your back in the picture}.  Would you like to share the scene? 

DQ: That is my back, and the scene depicted is from my Keeper of Eternity series. Echoes of Angels, the first book in that epic, was just re-released in eBook from MojoCastle Press and it is now available through most online venues. I am thrilled to see Morgan Saint-Evanston, my favorite character, making a comeback.

M:  Now, let’s get to book 2 your new release ~ Siren’s Surrender.  From the synopsis it sounds as the book might be more from Gwen’s view point rather than Tessa’s.  Is that so?

DQ:  Yes, Siren’s Surrender is Gwen’s story and takes up about a month after the first book left off, where the sisters are dealing with the aftermath of Tessa’s discovery in the Mediterranean Sea.

M:  But our friends and foe from book one will be present as well correct?

DQ:  Absolutely. Both Jake Massey and Mer Queen Magaera are back on hand to cause trouble for the sisters.

Oh, that Jake Massey.  I want to love him, yet hate him.  I do like how you've written him.

M:  How many books do you have planned for this series?

DQ:  So far, three. Siren’s Desire will be releasing Feb 2012.

M:  Will they all be from different points of view of a different sister, or character?

DQ:  Each sister plays the star in her book, though all sisters appear  in each other’s books.  The third is a bit more complicated, as events from book 1 and 2 all play a part in Addison’s story.

M:  After reading the first book, I am just curious… Could we eventually meet the girls’ family members that have discarded their heritage?  It seems they just might have a piece of history that the Queen could be after and the girls might want to find first.

DQ:  At this point, that is up to my editor and NAL as to whether or not they will want to continue the series. At this time, that is open and we’re discussing the idea of more Mer books with other characters.

M:  Is there a scene in these books that was difficult for you to write, for any reason? 

DQ:  Action scenes are hard for me to write, as I have a hard time finding the correct words to describe what I see in my head.

M:  And what was one of the most enjoyable scenes for you to write?

DQ:  The last one, LOL. It meant the book was finished.

M:  One last quick question that I ask on my interviews here.  If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you like to go?

DQ:  Ireland!

Book Review: Siren's Call

Recommendation:  Oh Yes! Lovely read with magic and some archaeological expedition, and Mermaids!  Lovely little romance with a wonderful story.

Book Synopsis:
There are some things that can't stay buried - even in the deep of the ocean.

As a woman with a secret, lighthouse keeper Tessa Lonike savors her solitude on the island of Little Mer, off the coast of Maine.  During a violent storm, Tessa spots a man thrashing in the ice-cold waters and dives in to save him, using her ability as a mermaid to easily pull him to shore.

When Kenneth Randall awakens on the beach, he is alone, left with the haunting memory of his beautiful flame-haired savior.  And a year later, when Kenneth meets Tessa again, he's determined not to let her slip away.  Just as the desire between them begins to burn, Tessa's archaeologist ex-lover comes back to town with a tantalizing clue to her murky heritage.

The trio travels to the Mediterranean in search of answers, and what they find there will change Tessa's life forever.  She'll have to choose between the world of her people and the call of her heart...

First Sentence:
Kenneth Randall walked along the craggy beach.

My Review and Summary:
We learn quickly in the Prologue of Kenneth's world shattering loss that drives him to suicide, then the secret Tessa keeps while she lives on the small island owned by her family, with the lighthouse watching over the Bay.  Tessa uses this secret to save Kenneth's life.  Ten months later the book starts with Kenneth who dreads thinking of that dark day, but having a feeling he was not alone in the waters that day.  That he felt a feminine presence with him.  He returns to the island he washed up hoping to talk to the woman how found him in hopes she might add some pieces to the day.  Tessa is a grumpy, beautiful, young woman who lives by herself and is very anxious to turn Kenneth away before he remembers anything.  Yet she finds she is very attracted to him.  Kenneth finds himself offering to help Tessa, for free, to maintain the house and lighthouse which are in desperate need of tender loving care.  Tessa finds she has no choice but to let him with the ultimatum her sisters give her.  As the two are attracted to each other, the other doesn't want to push to far or fast.  Then when things look to be going steamy for them, Tessa's ex-fiancée shows up with news of possible mermaid archaeological history.  Tessa, Kenneth, and Jake make a journey to be the first to find these artifacts, only to find so much more than expected.

I've never really read anything with Mermaids before and loved the mixture of romance, magic, and the adventurous story of the aquatic archaeological discoveries.


I felt the story was well written.  Devyn leaves indications as to explain the quick attraction between Kenneth and Tessa.  And gives you the time you need to want these two together and enjoy the characters they are.  Then just as you start to feel comfortable with them Devyn throws a wrench in the works and the characters have to react.  I have to say the characters really stayed true to their persons.  Even through there where times I wanted Kenneth to do something more or different, he did what he should do and held to his true self.  I really liked that and loved Kenneth for it.  He is definitely a keeper in all women's books.  I enjoyed the romance with Kenneth and Tessa and the challenges Kenneth and even Tessa had to over come.

Yes, you have your romance and love story here but the story is much more than that.  The next part of the story was the adventure to find the artifacts of the lost Mermaid people and city.  The adventure they go on in the Mediterranean Sea is fun and pecked my curiosity.  I enjoyed the adventure in finding the unexpected and the troubles that came from it.  So much to learn and see with the Mermaid finds here.

And the magic!  The mermaids are full of wonderful unknown unexpected magic.  Tessa has a lot to learn.  The story ended with an ending and with a hint of what may be to come in the future books.

I will definitely be looking for Siren's Surrender to be released February 1, 2011.

Today I'm diving to the deepest depths of the Mediterranean sea.  So deep no person or machine can go.  I'm with Tessa, the mentally strong mermaid.  Her boyfriend and ex-fiancée are waiting in the boat above to hear the news of what great lost artifacts of Ishaldi we find.  But we cross more than what we where hoping for.  A surprise I'm hoping to learn more about.
