Sunday Post #107

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First, what on Earth happened in Paris!?! I hope all my friends and blogging buddies in Paris are safe. You and your families. I've not watched much television, so I'm not sure what all has happened, but my thoughts are with you all.
It's been a rough few weeks. I know I didn't post my Sunday Post last week. I was rather busy tending to kiddo last Sunday and didn't get to write it up. As many of you know he had reconstructive ACL surgery along with stitching a tear in his lateral meniscus. The muscle used to replace his ACL was taken from the front of his knee. Ouch. He went in Friday morning and, of course as everything is going these days in the States, was sent home Friday evening as out patient surgery. However we didn't get home until late Friday night. Anyway, he came home with a nerve block in his leg and was on pain meds and the best way to keep something in his system ended up being that he took something every two hours. So, I set my alarm on my cell phone and slept on the couch by him on the pull out bed. We were up every two hours for... I believe until Tuesday. The nerve block was easy to remove when the ball was empty, and most of the surgery pain was gone. Though he still hurt. We finally got him down to just the prescription Tylenol and he's even backed off that to as needed here Friday. In a weeks time he's gone from terrible pain to feeling pretty good.
However, there is always a but. He's started his exercises on Monday. But, as hard as he tries, he can't seem to do them. The exercises are the easiest things when I tell you them, but with losing a tendon in one place and having a new one pinned into place makes it rather hard. There are 3 exercises, leg raises, heel slides, and pressing the back of the knee down (muscle wise) to touch the floor and have the leg straight. Easy. Yeah, no. He still can't lift his leg, which makes crutches a bit difficult. So, mom gets to help move him around and help push him to do his exercises.
Oh, we've had our bouts of loud moments, but that's to be expected with us. I'm just hoping he'll be okay to go back to school on Monday. We have a wheelchair for him to get around easier, but he really needs to be able to move that leg.
As that all sounds like it shouldn't be time consuming, it was. I've barely gotten through anything this last week while helping Kiddo around the house and taking care of him. And trying to get sleep between it all.
And after all this, I realized I didn't do a NaNoWriMo post as I had said I would. I started it but never finished and posted it. *head desk* I'll have to do that.
Dissension by K.A. Salidas
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
The great cataclysm wiped almost all life from the face of planet Earth, but tiny pockets of survivors crawled from the ashes, with only one thought: survival, at any cost.
But not all survivors were human.
In the dark, militant society that has risen in the aftermath, vampires, once thought to be mythical, have been assimilated and enslaved. Used for blood sport their lives are allowed to continue only for the entertainment of the masses. Reviled as savages, they are destined to serve out their immortal lives in the arena, as gladiators.
And there is no greater gladiator than Mira: undefeated, uncompromising...and seemingly unbreakable. When an escape attempt leads Mira into the path of Lucian Stavros, the city’s Regent, her destiny is changed forever.
Lucian, raised in a culture which both reviles and celebrates the savagery and inhumanity of vampires, finds Mira as intriguing as she is brash. An impulsive decision - to become Mira’s patron – changes more than just Lucian’s perception about vampire kind. The course of his life is altered in ways he could never have predicted – a life that is suddenly as expendable as hers.
Can Mira prove to Lucian that all is not as it seems? Can Lucian escape centuries of lies, bloodshed, and propaganda to see the truth? Or will the supreme power of the human overlords destroy them both?
Persuasion by Martina Boone
Goodreads Synopsis:
Beautiful Creatures meets The Raven Boys in the spellbinding second novel in the Heirs of Watson Island trilogy that “skillfully blends rich magic and folklore with adventure, sweeping romance, and hidden treasure” (Publishers Weekly, on Compulsion).
Grieving the death of her godfather and haunted by her cousin Cassie’s betrayal, Barrie returns from a trip to San Francisco to find the Watson plantation under siege. Ghost-hunters hope to glimpse the ancient spirit who sets the river on fire each night, and reporters chase rumors of a stolen shipment of Civil War gold that may be hidden at Colesworth Place. The chaos turns dangerous as Cassie hires a team of archeologists to excavate beneath the mansion ruins. Because more is buried there than treasure.
A stranger filled with magic arrives at Watson’s Landing claiming that the key to the Watson and Beaufort gifts—and the Colesworth curse—also lies beneath the mansion. With a mix of threats and promises, the man convinces Barrie and Cassie to cast a spell there at midnight. But what he conjures may have deadly consequences.
While Barrie struggles to make sense of the escalating peril and her growing and forbidden feelings for Eight Beaufort, it’s impossible to know whom to trust and what to fight for—Eight or herself. Millions of dollars and the fate of the founding families is at stake. Now Barrie must choose between what she feels deep in her heart and what will keep Watson’s Landing safe in this stunning addition to a series filled with “decadent settings, mysterious magic, and family histories rife with debauchery” (Kirkus Reviews, on Compulsion).
Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Goodreads Synopsis:
Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don’t kill him first, that is.
