Monday's Beginnings (64)

How are you faring in reading at the beginning of this week?  Are you starting a new book or finishing one up?

I'm hoping to have another great week this week.  I know I don't get through as many books as many readers out there, but I feel as I'm getting through them at a good pace this past week or two.  I didn't get much reading done over the weekend with trying to purchase appliances and such for the new house, but last week seemed pretty good.  I did get done with reading Hell Fire by Ann Aguirre and Spellspam by Alma Alexander.  I am looking forward to typing up these reviews.  Hoping to get these posted toward the end of the week this week or over the weekend.

Book Blog Chat (6)...Schedule

Robyn, of The Bookoholic Zone, and I have both enjoyed the beginnings of the Black London Series by Caitlin Kittredge.  And to celebrate the release of the third book we are going to chat a book a week for the series.

Yes, this is a little different than we normally have done.  But we want to refresh our memories with the first two books before we get into the new one.  Then when we get into the new one we didn't know if we would be able to contain ourselves and stop at points.  So, we are going to try this a new way this time around.

Secret Santa...

I just signed up for a Secret Santa!  This is my first sign up.  And I'm nervous and excited.  I gave a list of books I want and what genres I read.  And little extra things too, like bookmarkers and sticky notes.  :)

What would you get?

Well, I've been going through my WANT list to pick out books for a Secret Santa I want to sign up for.  (Which I'm afraid I'm not going to make my choices for it to get signed up.)  But I am trying to narrow down to 10 books and this got me to thinking...

I was wondering what others would want for the holidays if one person was going to get them one book.  I know we all like to dream, but as a normal request to a friend if a friend asked you.  Any book, new or old, that is on the shelves already or will  be by the holidays.  What do you want?  Do you have that one book that you have to have this year?  Or are you like me a divided between a few different ones?

What's my choice?  Well, I'm divided between two books.  Ones that are starts to amazing series as I've heard.  They are:  Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs by Molly Harper OR Once Bitten, Twice Shy by Jennifer Rardin.

Book Review: Cries of Vampira

Recommendation:  If you enjoy Vampires and Werewolves you just might enjoy this quick read.

Book Synopsis: (from Goodreads)
This is the fictional story of the Robertson's secret royal Vampire homeland, Vampira, Scotland, and their struggle to live in peace amongst their sworn enemies, the Grey Wolves, who were Scotland's secret Werewolves horde and the deadliest creatures on Earth. 

First Sentence:
As the sounds of celebration and jubilation echo from Vampira's castle several yards away, King George Robertson and his brother, Prince Shannon, enjoy an evening horse ride on the castle grounds surrounded by their castle guards.

My Review and Summary:
King George and his brother, Prince Shannon are leasurely horseback riding through the night, happy of the birth of the Kings triplets - two girls, one boy - hoping they will know peace in the world in their time.  When unexpectedly the King, Prince, and fifty guard are surrounded by two hundred of their archenemies, the Grey Wolves.  The young heir of the Grey Wolves watched as the King of Vampira, being brutily eaten to death, kills his parents.  Gaad Grey wants to grow up to have his revenge on the Vampires, or will he?  Seventeen years later the children are grown and have their sides and those to protect or fight.  This is where our story truly picks up; with the triplets and Gaad Grey.  They must protect themselves, fight, or make a last stand.

I was nervous reading the first section of the King George and Prince Shannon.  I felt as I didn't make a connection at the start as the book jumps right into the meat of the troubles and the battle fought seemed hard to believe because of the exact numbers given in which the King and Prince killed yet there is fifty guard there too.

But into the next section, I really started to enjoy the story.  The Vampires have a different take on the world than most norm.  The story as a whole happens in one evening and told from different view points.  These different view points give a different side of the characters at hand.  A quick way to get attached with these characters and see the world created here.

The story got really going for me and I was fearing the end would not be a conclusion.  Unfortunately, the book does end in a cliffhanger.  But it was enjoyable for a quick read.  I look forward to when Sean comes out with book two to see what happens.

This book is listed as Young Adult as well.  I would suggest this for a teenager as there is some violence and sex in the read.
