Sunday Post #18

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~
So a lot is going on around here.  I didn't get to do a post last week with trying to build a wall.  Yes, we were building a real live wall.  A retailing wall in our back yard.  Let me tell you, it was a lot of work!  I wasn't able to pick up the block, but I could dig with the shovel and digging bar, and I did.  Also, I think I might be getting somewhere with the paperwork for my dad.  My husband goes back to work this week, he was off all week, so maybe I can get back to a routine of normalcy this week.
I think I've been on the same book for two weeks, which is a dreaded shame as I'm LOVING it!  But with family issues and building walls it's hard to find reading time.  I'm about 1/2 way and loving this fantasy read. WOW!  This is the fantasy I've been wanting to pick up, so glad I did.
But since I didn't do a Post last week, I'll do for the last two weeks today...
What's Happening in Books:
Current Read:
Promise of Blood by Brian McClellan
Also, I'm doing Camp NaNoWriMo this month.  But I only set the goal at 10k words, and there is many re-writes that need to get done at the same time.
Finished Last Week:
After Dark by Gena Showalter and Kait Ballenger
Finished Podcast Book Listen:
I haven't got to the Podcasts yet.  I will, they are lining up on me.
Received Last Week:
Review:
Requiem by Ken Scholes
Goodreads Synopsis:
Ken Scholes’s debut novel, Lamentation, was an event in fantasy. Heralded as a “mesmerizing debut novel” by Publishers Weekly, and a “vividly imagined SF-fantasy hybrid set in a distant, postapocalyptic future” by Booklist, the series gained many fans. It was followed by Canticle and Antiphon. Now comes the fourth book in The Psalms of Isaak, Requiem.
Who is the Crimson Empress, and what does her conquest of the Named Lands really mean? Who holds the keys to the Moon Wizard’s Tower?
The plots within plots are expanding as the characters seek their way out of the maze of intrigue. The world is expanding as they discover lands beyond their previous carefully controlled knowledge. Hidden truths reveal even deeper truths, and nothing is as it seemed to be.
Shudder by Samantha Durante
Goodreads Synopsis:
-- Book 2 in the Stitch Trilogy --
It's only been three days, and already everything is different.
Paragon is behind her, but somehow Alessa's life may actually have gotten worse. In a wrenching twist of fate, she traded the safety and companionship of her sister for that of her true love, losing a vital partner she'd counted on for the ordeal ahead. Her comfortable university life is but a distant memory, as she faces the prospect of surviving a bleak winter on the meager remains of a ravaged world. And if she'd thought she'd tasted fear upon seeing a ghost, she was wrong; now she's discovering new depths of terror while being hunted by a deadly virus and a terrifying pack of superhuman creatures thirsting for blood.
And then there are the visions.
The memory-altering "stitch" unlocked something in Alessa's mind, and now she can't shake the constant flood of alien feelings ransacking her emotions. Haunting memories of an old flame are driving a deep and painful rift into her once-secure relationship. And a series of staggering revelations about the treacherous Engineers - and the bone-chilling deceit shrouding her world's sorry history - will soon leave Alessa reeling...
The second installment in the electrifying Stitch Trilogy, Shudder follows Samantha Durante's shocking and innovative debut with a heart-pounding, paranormal-dusted dystopian adventure sure to keep the pages turning.
Purchased/Winnings:
I'm soooo excited I won this one.  Thank you Maja!! (The nocturnal Library) for giving away a copy. Eeep!  And, Maja sent me UNBREAKABLE extra content by Elizabeth Norris.  I soooo need to get this series as well!
Bronze Gods by A.A. Aguirre
Goodreads Synopsis:
Hy Breasil is grimmer than it used to be.
Before the Architect closed the door, there were regular crossings, and a great war decimated both humans and Ferishers. The native fae who refused to treat with the invaders faded; their bodies withered and died, stranding them as hungry, angry spirits that haunt the countryside.
That means there’s always trouble brewing in Dorstaad.
Janus Mikani and Celeste Ritsuko work for the Criminal Investigation Department, keeping citizens safe from things that go bump in the night. He’s a hardboiled cynic with an uncanny sixth sense; she’s determined to justify her promotion as the first female detective in her division. Together, they’re trying to keep a black tide from drowning the city.
But when the second body surfaces, murdered with the same type of infernal device, the entire CID must face the truth. There’s a madman on the loose, twining magic and blood… and only Mikani and Ritsuko can unravel the intricate, lethal conspiracy before the Royale killer completes his macabre plan, unleashing old, forbidden magic on an unsuspecting populace. If the maniac succeeds, it could mean the end of everything…
The Tao of Feeblecorn by Paul Goat Allen
Goodreads Synopsis:
On an idyllic summer afternoon, the end of the world arrives uninvited on the doorsteps of the residents of a sleepy little town in the suburbs of Syracuse, New York.
The roots of this impending cataclysm go back almost a century and stretch deep underneath the ground to the subterranean labyrinths beneath an abandoned quarry with a dark history—where a nightmarish evil has been growing unchecked for decades...
This isn't that story.
Free Ebooks:
Bane by Tara Brown
Goodreads Synopsis:
"Ari, this is Aimee James. She’s different, like you.” The old lady smiled brightly, “Until you get to know each other, I wouldn’t go holding hands. Who knows what’ll happen.”
This is the second book of the completed series, The Devil's Roses
Aimee is now a Devil's Rose. She has a ring that makes her brand of deadly force acceptable. She has killed every flavor of bad. Vampires, shifters, weres, demons, Nephilim. She has lived through nearly every kind of loss, and yet that still can't prepare her for the arrival of Ari.
Tattoo's, piercings, scars, and a poor attitude are pasted across the girl's face when she arrives at the old haunted house where Aimee has found refuge.
The problem with Ari, this isn't Ari. She isn't the girl she was a day ago. She's something else.
Something powerful and dark and dangerous.
Something very few have ever seen.
Hyde by Tara Brown
Goodreads Synopsis:
Hanna doesn't know what's happening to her.
She doesn't know why her father has just sacrificed his life for hers.
She doesn't know who Aimee James is, or why she must fear her.
She doesn't know what the Roses are or why they're interested in her.
She knows there is a dusty stack of journals that drag her into a world she can't comprehend.
She knows there is something more to the world she has been forced into.
She knows no matter how hard she fights it, her attraction to Marcus is overwhelming and all consuming.
Until she meets Sam.
History and the present collide in this explosive tale of betrayal and lust.
Don't miss out on the excitement of the Devil's Roses, now a completed series.
Witch by Tara Brown
Goodreads Synopsis:
The old house at the end of the haunted street seems emptier with the people missing and the lives lost.
Sam thinks he has Hanna all to himself now but The Roses have other plans.
Ari and Aimee struggle to cope with the changes they've suffered through, the newest one being Giselle. She is thrust into the role of Vampire Royalty and with it come certain obligations and limitations.
None of them really have much time to feel sorry for themselves and the deaths of their loved ones. An ancient bloodline, tracing as far back as Adam and Lillith, is discovered with an heir to the power living closer than they thought.
Enter the young and confused Ophelia, who has no idea of the power she has or the role she plays in it all.
Time is running out for the Roses.
Between the strongest magic in the world and the control Ari has learned, they hope they will be able to manipulate the time change and make everything better with a single push.
